Cost of entry into the National Park is very low, only $10 for the car, and the pass is valid for a week. We stopped in at the visitor info centre and talked to a park volunteer about what hikes they would recommend. After a stop for lunch at the Volcano House Hotel, we headed out on our hike.
As someone who makes maps for a living, Volcano National Park's maps and trail signage are terrible. We had a hard time knowing if we were going in the right direction, or if we were even on the right trail. Could definitely use some improvement.
Other than the maps, the hike was fantastic. We had the chance to walk through rain forest, and across part of the crater of the volcano. The hike was very quiet, we only saw a few other hikers. We had a great time!
We also checked out the lava tube, which was kind of cool.
