We ate here one night and then decided we had to find something else even if it meant driving all the way back to Hilo.
Perhaps you should give the bar a try if you don't want to leave the park.

Attention entrepreneurs: There is a big void for food choices in the Volcano area. We were disappointed two times in a row during our short stay. The restaurant in the National Park was a train wreck that had little redeming qualities. There were problems with service, food quality, and the place felt left over from the '60s with only a fresh coat of paint.

This dining room overlooks the Main caldera and the smaller internal caldera, currently an active lava tube. If the food were not so good this would be a 4 star restaurant based on the view.

Exactly when was the last time you sat on the edge of an active volcano with the lava steam or glowing about 2 miles away??

So, in addition to sitting on the edge of a currently active volcano with excellent food beside makes the a memorable and 5 star dinner or early breakfast. Lunch is well done with a less elaborate menu, but only steam is visible from the lava during the day.

Dinner or early Breakfast at sunset or sun rise are spectacular times of the day on the EDGE.

The restaurant seems to be much improved when compared to earlier reviews. The food is served nicely set, but NOT elaborate. Quality is very good and the service very attentive and well done. The staff is very friendly and anxious to serve and help the guests with their vacation.

Breakfast is a buffet with omelets and waffles made to order.

The entire lodge has just opened after being redone. So it looks great as a National Park Lodge, it is not intended to be the Ritz Carlton.

The restaurant was very busy the night our group ate here. We came here because friends of ours suggested the place.
The good part was the view. The not so good part was the food and the service.
We visited when it was still in the start up phase. Perhaps it is better by now.

Service was poor, food was less than average, prices were high,,,, the only thing they have is a view. I hate it when a restaurant relies on their location/view alone and this one does. Have drink, enjoy the view from the rocking chairs, skip the rest.
