Scott and Steve have thought of everything from the outdoor platform bed complete with blankets and pillows for gazing at the stars to the 2 person outdoor spa filled with salts and oils to rest your weary bones after a day of hiking in the desert. The breakfasts were delicious and a great way to start off the day before a long hike. They had great recommendations for hikes and destinations seemingly knowing immediately what type of activity would suit us best. I look forward to going back again.

My wife and I traveled from the east coast for a long weekend last month at Sacred Sands. It is truly an otherwordly retreat. The amazing architecture and decor, combined with the surrounding environment bring an almost instant sense of peace and relaxation. The spectacular national park is only a mile away, and it's a hiking/climbing/photographers paradise. The outdoor hot tub is spacious, luxurious, and the best thing I can imagine after a long hike in the park. Scott and Steve begin each day with a phenomenal breakfast, and they offer great advice on where to eat lunch or dinner in the area. I can't say enough great things about what they have created and the experience there.

My husband and I selected Sacred Sands based on reviews. We were not let down. The place was a beautiful, tranquil retreat. You truly felt at home, and Scott and Steve were great hosts. They were around as much or as little as you wanted, knew all the local places to eat, and had great information on the parks. My husband and I had thought about going into the park for a hike, but was so enamored with the hot tub and platform bed that we spent almost all day, everyday in our room. The breakfasts that S&S prepared were so delicious! You didn't even notice how healthy they were :-)! If you're considering trying Sacred Sands out, I'd say go for it! You'll be glad you did!

Having read the reviews we booked a 2 night stay but felt it was impossible to 'wow' such seasoned travellers such as ourselves - we were wrong! This place is awesome - our only regret was not having booked a longer stay, Steve & Scott have created a magical retreat in a wonderful location - can't wait to return.

Scott and Steve were each born to be innkeepers. They have a beautiful inn next to a true gem of a national park. My wife and I stayed there as part of a week long trip through southern California that took us to LA, San Diego, and San Clemente. Sacred Sands was by far the best part. The room was gorgeous and designed for relaxation and comfort without being over the top. We almost didn't want to leave our room to go to Joshua Tree. Scott and Steve recommended great hikes and wonderful places to eat in town. And the breakfasts were delicious. You will NOT regret visiting Sacred Sands.

Sacred Sands is absolutely magical. Was lucky enough to stay for two nights after Thanksgiving and I will never forget it. Scott and Steve (the fabulous hosts) have created a place like no other -- so peaceful -- so romantic -- so relaxing -- you will never want to leave. It's like staying with friends—if your friends are charming hosts/chefs/designers and live in one of the most beautiful places on earth...

Got there on Friday afternoon, met S&S, and Scott showed us our room -- it was so lovely I think we both gasped -- luxurious bedroom, over-the-top bathroom with double shower heads, and a private back retreat with outdoor shower, hot tub, outdoor bed, and a fridge/microwave -- and the most amazing view (we loved the little trap door/window from the hot tub). We felt like two little kids and couldn't believe our luck... We dashed out to get some wine and snacks for the room (go to one of the markets on the way there to save time) and there was a rainbow-hued sunset on the way -- so beautiful we had to pull over to take pictures. Later went to the main house living room with some wine -- S&S lit a fire for us and we had fun chatting with them -- their dogs Silas and Sophia are the best -- like people in dog suits (!), and then we were off to Pappy & Harriet's for a great dinner/great music (make reservations early in the day by phone or email -- we were glad we did).

There were so many stars by the time we got back -- and it was so fabulous to just slide into the hot tub and listen to the coyotes howl in the distance...

The next morning we went to the main house for breakfast (S&S had asked us what time was good for us...), met the couple from the other room, and had the most amazing breakfast I can remember (of course until breakfast the following day) -- homemade chilaquiles -- I wolfed down every bite... Then S&S gave us tips for the best hikes and we were off to Joshua Tree (the park entrance is literally right next to Sacred Sands).

Joshua Tree deserves its own stellar review -- but let's just say that combined with Sacred Sands -- this could not have been a more perfect weekend. Did three hikes but then I was desperate to come back to our room... Stopped for a late lunch at Crossroads Cafe -- so delish... And to get in the hot tub after a day of hiking? Pure bliss...

I could go on an on about this place, but what really knocked me out was the absolute thought and care that has gone into everything. I have traveled all around the world and stayed at wonderful places, but nothing compares to this... If you're a Ritz-Carlton type of person and need a TV in your room to have a good time, this may not be your thing, but if you appreciate great architecture/design/nature/transcendent food/quiet elegance you will want to come here again and again. From the incredible scent the moment you walk in the room (I found out they spray the air with rosemary and eucalyptus oil), the perfect sheets/pillows, the cozy bathrobes, the reading lights, the wine opener, the little rock shelves in the shower, the rocks artfully hiding the fridge electric cord, and on and on—whatever you could want or imagine they have already thought of...

And just when I thought the trip could not be more magical -- opened the door Saturday night to find a little package at our door -- home-made chocolate cake, a candle, forks, and napkins -- and a note saying "Happy Birthday" from our hosts. Yeah, I had casually mentioned it was my birthday, never imagining they would bake me a cake. But then I'd never met anyone like Scott and Steve.

Make reservations now. Really.

We spent two wonderful nights here around the end of October. It was an excellent location from which to explore Joshua Tree National Park, it being one mile from the Park Entrance. Architecturally, the venue is very interesting since it is a straw bale constructed house. Our room was very comfortable, wonderful bed, lovely bathrooms - loved the river rock in the shower. Our hosts, Steve and Scott, were wonderful and very attentive and a wealth of information. Breakfast was not only healthy but very tastey. The outdoor bathtub was the highlight - sitting in the tub looking at the Milky Way both evenings. Another highlight was being awakened in the dark of night by howling coyotes - they sounded like they were outside the door! It's a great place from which to explore the area - the Park itself, 29 Palms and Yucca Valley...lovely bistro called Bistro 29 in 29 Palms well worth the drive, and again recommended by our hosts, Scott and Steve. It really is a hidden gem. We would definitely stay there again!
