Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge
Reviewed 15 August 2013

We stayed at the lodge as part of our 30th anniversary Alaska excursion. Our travel plans changed a bit due to high seas between Seward and the lodge that prevented the boat from sailing for two days. This could have been a real bummer but the lodge folks took GREAT care of us, putting us up at Riverside, one of the other Alaska Wildland Adventures (AWA) lodges. This lodge turned out to be wonderful as well so we were not disappointed at all.
This biggest impression we came away with was the quality of the staff at both of the lodges. It really felt like everyone was dedicated to make our personal stay perfect. When our travel plans changed they were always right there with options for what we could do and took care of all of the legwork in making changes.
The AWA lodges are certainly not inexpensive but you really do get your money's worth. AWA is fantastic!

Thank you for your kind words, and we're so pleased you enjoyed your stay. When Mother Nature presents our team with unique weather situations, it's our top priority to find alternative arrangements for our valued travelers so as not to put a damper on the overall trip experience.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

My wife and I arrived at Lodge after a two plus hour boatride from Seward not knowing what to expect in such a remote location. What we found was an attractive and well planned state of the art eco lodge in a stunning location. A variety of hikes and kayak tous are offered each day by professsional guides with trips offered catering to all ability levels. This allowed travelling groups of differing interest and ability levels to all enjoy themselves in the beautiful Alaskan wilderness. The Lodge staff managed by Jeff and Sharon offered first class food and service. Staff members were universally enthusiastic and knowledgable in their areas of support. I would put this Lodge on your Bucket List.

Room Tip: Glacier and water views appeared excellent from all the cabins.

This is a beautiful lodge, in an incredible location, with enthusiastic staff and great activities. The one small criticism I have is that there is a "revolving door" feeling. As you come in, people are leaving. Every afternoon, people are arriving. Because of this, there is a bit of an impersonal feeling to the place. However, that may be unavoidable, in light of the logistics of getting to and from the lodge. Don't allow it to discourage you.

Thank you for your constructive feedback. In an effort to accommodate different travelers throughout the summer, we tend to have daily arrivals/departures at the lodge. Guests are allowed to stay for as little (1 night) or as long (5 or more nights) as they'd like.

We appreciate your comments as they help us continue to further improve!

What a wonderful and magical place this is nestled in the heart of a National Park. Every aspect of our 3 day - 2 night trip was top notch: The boat ride to and from the Lodge with knowledgable crew, spotting Humpback Whales and Orcas and thousands of seabirds; the guided tours, including hikes, canoe trips, and kayaking to an impressive "calving" glacier; the log cabin; the meals every day; but most off all, the people that work here and obviously enjoy their jobs and the serene place they work.

Jeff and Sharon manage a lodge that is truly committed to maintaining the environmental integrity of the breathtaking Alaskan wilderness. The hikes and kayak tours are guided by true professional ecologists who have come from all different walks of life. We witnessed calving glaciers, kayaked between ice bergs, and saw black bears, bald eagles, sea otters and harbor seals. Meals were delicious and served family style to all guests during the same time frame so as to facilitate sharing of common experiences. We couldn't be more enthusiastic about this site.

Three guides were especially well informed: Randy, Maura and Lindsey.

Room Tip: All the rooms are the asme, well and newly constructed individual cabins.

Had a wonderful stay at the Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge for three nights in July. The cabins are cute and cozy and the staff is great (although at times could have used more staff at the bar)....very accommodating to their guests. The food was just okay...not gourmet, but adequate. The breakfasts and lunches were basic. I think they could have done more with the lunches...basically just bread, processed lunch meat and cheeses...make your own sandwiches, but I guess it fits the needs of the guests with all the different activities. I think I was expecting a bit more from the dinners...fresh fresh fish, veggies and salads, but got pork and prime rib the first two nights (both of which I don't eat), but they substituted with different things. The food was not the reason for my five stars...the staff (in particular, Mereth and Riley) were both great! Really nice to be around and seemed to love their jobs. The scenery is spectacular, the activities are fun, the wildlife is great and I loved the remoteness of the lodge. I will never forget my stay here. If you want someplace off the beaten path to relax, see wildlife and hike, kayak, canoe, etc..., I highly recommend this place. I'll be back!

We stayed at Aialik Bay for 2 nights in July as part of a 5 week tour we were doing of the Canadian Rockies and Alaska. It really is the most beautiful of places, the scenery, the wildlife, the experiences, the lodge and all the amazing people that make it what it is .....exceptional.
Our only regret is we wished we booked for much longer!!
