We loved visiting and hiking in Shenendoah Nat'l Park. Our agin was small, but clean, but on our next visit we will stay in a bigger cabin or the Lodge. The staff at the restaurant and Taproom were very friendly and gave us good advise for hiking in the time we had in the Park. We checked in on a Sunday, went for a hike, and when we arrived at the Taproom, it was understaffed and we had to wait a long time for service. The bartender was friendly and apologetic, but could have used assistance since there was a large crowd in the restaurant and Taproom, and he needed to wait on tables, too. Perhaps, they underestimated the crowd or someone did not show up for their shift. These things happen. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would definitely visit again!

This is a nice pet friendly place, were kids can have fun, there are a couple of nice hiking paths that allowed us to make some nice hikes, with our dog and kids. we all had fun. one end up in a platform with a gorgeous view and the other one has pretty rivers running along the path. they are easy to make.

Drove through Shenandoah Mountains on our way to Charlottesville. Stopped at Skylands for an early breakfast. Lovely window seat, day was cloudy but still a nice view of the mountains and valley below. A great way to start the day!

Breakfast was yummy, but service left something to be desired. Waitress was almost surly, never cracked a smile. She did keep the coffee coming though. We left a nice big tip anyway and no thank you... weird.

Enjoyed the taproom evening entertainer! Also, enjoyed a relaxing lunch in the Pollock Dining Hall. Some of the waiters and waitresses in the taproom worked very hard and provided excellent service. Other folks who were in the park were very friendly.

You definitely pay for the view and location. The rooms are a little tired, and a bit rustic. We saw them working on another building for the upgrades they are trying to complete. I am not paying to sit in the room though, however the view from our balcony was amazing. I am paying to be convenient to a lot of trails and activities in the park. I would definitely stay here again though. If you expect the Hilton, this may not be up to your standards, but its a great clean place to call base camp. After a day of hiking, nothing beats watching the sunset from your balcony. Room 135 had a good view for this time of year. Would still have a good view at other times, but could be slightly blocked looking to the right because of the trees. If booking this place, call and ask for an unobstructed view of the valley and mountains. 2nd floor is better, especially when there are leaves on the trees

My recent stay at Skyland was very enjoyable. I was in the park to enjoy the natural beauty, hike and spend time outdoors, knowing fully ahead of time that accommodations would be somewhat sparse. When considered in relation to the nightly cost, I think Skyland can do better.
The beginning tier of rooms don't have much of a view and not all of them have amenities like TVs or AC. We upgraded to rooms with a valley view, which was noticeably nicer, but got stuck next to a woman with a yappy, poorly controlled dog that barked all evening (they allow pets in some rooms here). In general noise insulation is very poor and we could hear people next to and above us through the walls. When checking in and changing rooms the front desk staff was very friendly, but could benefit overall from additional customer service training. The rooms was clean, but did have a bit of an ant problem, since there is no screen on the door and everybody came to Shenandoah for fresh air and views, guest are inclined to leave the balcony doors open and deal with the bugs. It does look like renovations are underway and I expect overall they will be improving under Delaware North.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have a view. Get a room on the 2nd floor to avoid footsteps keeping you up all night...

A fabulous view from the balcony of our room. Room adequate but definitely in need of an update - this is in progress I understand. It was clean though and the bed was comfy. Trails easily accessible but a bit of a hike UP to the restaurant. I'm veggie and was disappointed by my first meal (mashed potato and peas) but pasta on the second night was good - just a limited choice for veggies, but fairly typical of USA! Pleasant lounge and bar area with good singers on both evenings
