“A gorgeous lodge in a beautiful location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2014

Canyon walls stand proud and tall, surrounding Zion Lodge on all sides. If you’re interested in hiking Zion, there’s only one choice of accommodation - either you’re IN the canyon, or you’re not, and this lodge was our absolute favourite of all that we visited during our tour of the big parks. It’s a stones throw from some of the most beautiful walks on the planet, quiet and calm, with only the sound of passing shuttle buses breaking the silence, as the park is not open to any other traffic. The wildlife have few predators, and are not troubled by humans, so it was great to share both our walks and rest times with deer, chipmunks and other four-legged visitors.

The timber structures have two floors and the rooms, though fairly simply furnished, are cosy and comfortable (great beds!), with fabulous views from the balconies. We weren't troubled by any noise at all during the night.

The restaurant can be very busy, and making a reservation is recommended. The first time we visited we had to wait a while for a table to become available, but it was worth it - good wholesome food very reasonably priced.

Throughout the park the level of service from members of staff was exemplary (I think the concierge at Zion was the first person we promised ‘We’ll be back’!). Rangers are very happy to help plan your walks and ensure that you see as much as possibly during your stay, and restaurant staff are warm, friendly and welcoming.

The (free) park guide contains information about all the available hikes, the endurance level, and approximate walking times, and we packed as much as we possibly could in to our stay - but will certainly be returning for more (indeed, the Lodge is already booked for May 2014!).

Natural spring water is available free from a number of points in the Canyon, which is very useful if you are planning to do a lot of hiking, and the shuttle bus (also free) passes every 15 minutes or so to transport you to the various trails.

We can’t wait to revisit Zion. A gorgeous lodge in a beautiful location. Stunning!

Zion Lodge is right in the middle of the park, steps from some of the best hikes and with a shuttle stop right at your door. I love the grounds and restaurant is quite good. Take a morning hike to the Emerald Pools then come back and have an ice cold local beer on the terrace = heaven! Or if the weather is stay inside and have the beauty of the canyon right outside your window. I think their are better rooms in Springdale - but nothing beats stepping outside your room in the evening, to a deserted park with the deer grazing on the lawn. It's so peaceful and perfect!

I had the pleasure of staying at Zion Park Lodge over Thanksgiving, and had a wonderful stay! First, let me say that I have stayed at MANY park lodges over the years, and Zion Lodge was one of the best! The food in the dining room is excellent (unlike many park lodges) and the service was just great. We stayed in a large cabin with a fireplace and it was just great. The setting is beautiful. There were deer and a gray fox on the grounds that we saw a few times. The fireplace in our room made a weird vibrating noise when we first arrived, but they came over and fixed it right away after I called and it did not make noise the rest of the time. Anyway, I loved this lodge and would definitely stay here again and again!

We stayed at Zion Lodge Hotel with some friends for two nights in November 2013. After a long drive, we arrived after dark to find that someone at the hotel had cancelled our booking (made the previous May and paid for). Luckily they still had rooms available but not in the 3 ‘cabins’ that we had originally booked. The whole time the desk staff were not at all apologetic, sympathetic or helpful and it took them ages to find us 3 rooms which, in the end, were in the main building and the 3 rooms were not close together. In fact, one couple were given Room 142 on the ground floor – right opposite the hotel laundry which started up very early in the mornings and was very noisy. We were given Room 233 on the first floor which was fine but did not have very nice views, looking out at the side of a hill at the back of the hotel. The room had very poor lighting which made it seem very dark and dingy. There were 2 large double beds, large TV, room safe, tea/coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, free wi-fi and plenty of space to hang your clothes and set down your suitcases. There was a lovely little balcony at the back with two rockers but as there was not a particularly nice view we did not sit out there. Bathroom was fine but small with a shower over the bath. There were plenty of towels but the bath towels were a bit on the small side. There was also a second washbasin at one end of the bedroom plus a hairdryer. The hotel is in a lovely location in the middle of Zion Canyon. It is a large complex which housed the main rooms plus some nice wooden cabins (that we were supposed to have had). There was also a nice gift shop on site. During the day and at night you would find wild deer and wild turkey roaming around the grounds of the hotel. It was lovely to see them. There are some parking restrictions at the hotel at weekends and you have to get a permit from the hotel reception to allow you to park your car at the hotel at these times.
We had nice meals in the restaurant and had good service from a lovely young girl who I think was called Sharon. Portions were rather large so we often shared our starters and mains. Breakfast offered a really good selection of hot and cold buffet. However, we were not told when we checked in that on our second morning the buffet breakfast was not going to be served after (I think it was) 9am. Our party of 6 arrived about 15 minutes after this time and we were told that we could not have a buffet breakfast, just items ‘to order’. After a bit of a protest to the staff and to the restaurant manager, they finally allowed us to have a buffet breakfast (as the food was all still out on offer). If we had been told that buffet breakfast was only until a certain time, we could easily have gone along a bit earlier.
At the end of our stay we did not receive any apology for the way we had been treated when checking-in or with the problems in the restaurant and no one tried to make up for their mistakes. They just did not seem to care about our predicament. Our stay there was part of a tour of the canyons to celebrate one of our party’s 60th birthday – sadly, he had the worse room in the hotel – the one opposite the laundry!
All in all, our waitress was lovely and gave great service but I am afraid other members of staff in the restaurant (including the restaurant manager) and some of the reception staff were not at all friendly or helpful. A month on we are still waiting for a refund on the difference in the cost of the rooms we booked and the rooms we were given on arrival.
However, I would still recommend this hotel as the location is great. Just check your booking direct with the hotel before you arrive and I hope you have better serviced than we did!!!!

Room Tip: Do not accept room 142 as it's opposite the hotel laundry

My girlfriend and I were here last year and we had a great stay in the park. The lodge is at the bottom of the canyon and is surrounded by the mountains. It is a very beautiful setting. The room we stayed in was small but very clean and very nice. There was a deck with rocking chairs where watched the sunset and later that night we ate at the lodge restaurant. Overall if you like experiencing National Parks Zion Lodge is a must stay.

Room Tip: Hike the Narrows it is very beautiful

Loved everything about this place! We stayed in a cabin which was spacious, cute and comfortable. Incredible hiking, we did Angels landing and the Narrows, which were both spectacular. The waiter in the lounge was friendly and efficient. The shop clerk was happy and helpful...basically all the park employees were great. I don't know what's happened since our last foray into the national parks where our trip was made miserable due to horrid employees, but it was a most welcome and appreciated improvement.
Two little annoying things with the room were the fire place remote didn't work, but then popped on in the middle of the night waking us up...but it did help our boots dry out from the Narrows hike. The second thing was the light bulbs were so dim as to be nearly useless.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the rustic feel of the cabins as opposed to the more modern rooms. It was fun to sit on t...

I loved our little cabin with big gas fire. It was really cosy. Stayed 1 night and had dinner in the lodge restaurant. Food was good - although there are also plenty of options further down the road. The walks were great, we didnt do any especially difficult ones, but hopping on and off the bus made it really straight-forward.
