“Motel 6 With a Hyatt Price Tag”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2009

As previous reviewers have commented, the principal advantage of staying here is the location - in the middle of one of the truly spectacular settings in the US and across the street from the trailheads for some memorable hikes.
On the other hand the rooms themselves are cookie-cutter ordinary. Think worn down Motel 6 and you pretty much have it. They're really nothing special, and you're very isolated once you're there, being at the mercy of the concessionaire regarding dining options and any other amenities they choose to offer...which frankly aren't too many. Would grade the location as a 5 and the room as a 2, so the average winds up being a 3.
The shuttle system that runs in the park is a terrific feature, and there's a pickup point just outside the Lodge that makes it easy to get around, but frankly I'd advise looking into accommodation in the pretty little town of Springdale just outside the park and taking the free shuttles into the park itself. You don't sacrifice much in the way of convenience and you'll have many more (and better) lodging & dining options in the town. At least that's what we plan to do on future visits to Zion.

Location is unbelievable - and worth the $$ for the room (although the room itself was simple) Typical National Parks accomodations - we booked same day over the phone and got into the hotel room that night. No cabins available on late notice. Went up Angel's Landing in the late afternoon to take in the views of the Park - highly advisable if you're not scared of heights. There were some yahoos up there who probably didn't belong - but they weren't warned by anybody else...

During a 3 week holiday in the US I stayed 3 times in a national park lodge (Bryce, Zion, and Grand Canyon) and the Zion Lodge was the best of these. The Lodge has both motel rooms and cabins. Since I was late with reservations I could only get a motel room, but upon arrival it seemed to me that this was actually the better choice. The motel consists of two 2-storey buildings with inside corridors. Rooms on both sides offer great cliff views, and all rooms have balconies, with the rooms in the upper floor having a bit more privacy from the people walking past the building on the ground floor. The cabins seem to have even less privacy, being located right between the motel and the parking lot, so everybody is walking past them. Besides they looked rather old from the outside. The interior of the motel rooms was fine: quite roomy, with slightly old but still good quality furniture and warm colours. Beds were comfortable, aircon effective and not too noisy, and I would rate the bathroom above average motel size and standard.

The lodge is located halfway in the Canyon in a very peaceful area with a huge grass field and enormous tree where day trippers sit down for picknick or just to enjoy the scenery and tranquility in the shade. There's a good cafeteria for snacks and a proper restaurant for more serious dining. I only had breakfast there, which I found slightly disappointing. There's a choice of a buffet or a la carte, but both offer a rather limited selection. I was also not impressed with the quality of the food, with for instance the scrambled egg being foamy and fatty. But the restaurant offers nice views of the cliffs which largely makes up for the average food.

We stayed in a cabin for one night. Since we did not have a lot of time it was convenient for us to stay in the park. As per previous reviews the lodge is outdated, small and absolutely overpriced. In any other location you woulkd NEVER pay almost $ 200 for this 2 star accomodation. the beds were tiny ( 2 x doubles, very challenging for a party of 4!) We stayed w/ our small children but still was i looking forward to the following nigt w/ 2 x QUEEN beds.
Bath rooms are functional but old- you certainly pay for the LOCATION Only! Would be nice to get some updates for yr money...Dinner was pleasant and not overpriced, staff friendly

The location of the lodge deep within Zion National Park is the compelling reason to book this hotel. Rooms are nothing special, but the price is reasonable especially given the unique surroundings. The dining room in the main building has good quality food at reasonable prices and a more than adequate breakfast buffet.

Our little cabin had a gas fireplace that was just perfect in the evenings. There was a front porch with a fabulous view of the canyon (not all cabins have the view, but as we were an early arrival, the front desk let us pick out which cabin we wanted). The front desk also worked out a small problem with our reservations and were very helpful. The cabins are close to one another and are either duplexes or quads, so by "cabin" it's not like you will be getting a remote cabin in the woods. Ours had two double beds, a desk, bathroom, and walk in closet that had been converted into a vanity with a sink and small area to hang up clothes. It is small but for two people it's just perfect. (It does have A/C). I did notice a mouse going under (and no doubt into) one of the cabins, so although we didn't hear any, it may be an issue in some units.
It's a one minute walk to the main lodge building with restaurant, auditorium, gift shop, snack bar, and shuttle bus stop. In the mornings there is a small window by the auditorium that has bagels, tea, and coffee for sale...which we ate in front of the fireplace.
We found this place to be tremendously relaxing. With tax and such it was just under $200 a night, but I think it was worth it.
The lodge restaurant is good, not fabulous, and a bit pricey. It's very easy to take the shuttle bus into town and try out the different restaurants.

If you're considering visiting Zion Park, this is the place to be. the rooms are not extraordinary especially if u're in the back of the buidings with a back view. it's very dark. Except that, its walking distance to a wonderful experience in the park. The service in the restaurant is fantastic, the quality of the food is outstanding and reasonable. It's worth spending the additional 50$ to get the best.
