“beautiful place not accessible for phisicly challenged visitor”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 August 2013

We stayed for 6 days with the kosher expeditin group, we had beautiful trips in the parks around. Our host Joel Weinberger was wonderful, made all efforts to help us to cross accessibility dificulties, and to make our stay enjoyable.
I couldn't join the group on the bus, because it wasn't accessible for my scooter, yes in the USA 2013, A phisicly challenged traveler, cannot climb a bus.
Also in the ranch the was only 1 house without stair (even there was a small stair in the entrance to the house, that is hard for a wheelchair. But a bigger probldem was in the bathroom that a wheelchair couldn't enter without help, the door is narrow and blocks the toilet. We were adviced to take out the door. A phisicly challenged person has the right for privacy.q

We booked a 5 night camping trip. We liked the amenities and activities. The amenities were hot and free showers, dish washing station, lovely pool, two hot tubs, restaurant, clothes washer and dryers (not free, but cheap) and club house with ping pong and pool tables. The activities we did were horse back riding, zip line, ATV, paint-ball, and mini-golf. We bought too many activity vouchers in advance and ended up not using some--which was a waste of money, so buy a few in advance, but wait to see what you like doing before buying more.

What we didn't like was that things were starting to get pretty run down. They're doing what they can to keep it nice, but a high-desert/mountain resort goes through a lot of wear and tear. It's time to start replacing a few things. Everything there is clean for a camping resort...it's about the outdoors, so don't let the word "resort" fool you. It's a campground with resort-like amenities. It's really out of the way, which was perfect for us.

Time of year: We went in late August -- monsoon season. Zion NP had the 16th highest flood on record while we were there. We transferred from our tent to a cabin--and highly recommend the cowboy cabins (not the same as the cowboy wagons, which are really quaint substitutes for a tent). We loved the weather, so didn't feel cheated by the intermittent storms, but if you don't want rain, pick earlier in the summer. However, we choose late August because we knew most kids are back in school, so it was very quiet at the Ponderosa--no partying groups at all. Just a few German families and quiet couples.

I recommend this for a family vacation, reunion, or stopover on a southern Utah trip. And if you get a chance, go towards Kanab and visit the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Stop for lunch at the Thunderbird Restaurant at the Mt. Carmel intersection. Drop by and view the Coral Pink San Dunes along the way. This is a great day trip from the Ponderosa.

We thought we would be just stopping by at this resort for a night along our two week long road trip, but after the experience the first day we decided to stay for a second night. We were staying in a tent on the property, but when we checked in we were escorted to our camp sight by the manager of the resort. He made sure that we had everything that we needed and told us about everything that the resort had to offer us. The recreation center has every activity you can imagine, and obviously the most enticing attraction is Zion National Park just a few short miles down the road. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a mountain escape with great service, a beautiful location, and a fun atmosphere.

We very much appreciate the hundreds of kind reviews that come to us. As a management and staff we go out of our way to ensure a great experience for our guests. We suggest that visitors who stay with us while visiting Zion National Park, have the opportunity to really have the kind of experience they were searching for when contemplating the opportunity to enjoy a National Park.

If you have a young family you have to include Zion Ponderosa Ranch into your itinerary. Stay in the cowboy wagons, enjoy the awesome pool and slides, have a family game of mini golf, ride the zip line, enjoy the bonfire and smores evening, leave the kids with the fun time kids camp leaders while taking a hike in the Zion National Park (which is only a fourty minute drive away) and just soak up the atmonsphere, you wont be disappointed!!!!!
Allow at least three to four nights that was our downfall as we only stayed for two.
Staff were ever so helpful.
Would definately go back there.

Room Tip: Experience the Cowboy Wagon - no power!

We staid for a week and had so much fun!
We staid in one of the vacation homes.
The house was very nice and cozy.
(Not accessible for people in will chair!!)
Pool is soooo fun and hot tub was nice too.
The only thing I hated was the bugs at night, but it's a minor thing if you don't care.
Overall, I loved it!!

I have had the opportunity to camp at the Ranch twice now. Both times, the campsites were very nice. There are lots of amenities on the property that makes a camping experience here far from roughing it which I thought was very nice. The showers are clean and there is even a sink set aside for washing dishes. The only downside is that the Ranch is about a 30 minutes drive from the main canyon. However, it is the nicest campground I have found in Zion. It is also at an elevation above 6,000 feet which makes for nice cool evenings and nights in the summer. They also offer lots of cabins to stay in. I have never stayed in one, though.

Room Tip: Try to get a site close to the bathrooms / showers.

We were very excited to stay at this property because of all of the family activities available. We rented one of the vacation homes and the house was beautiful. Unfortunately for 3 of the 4 days we were there, the air conditioner did not work and the house was 84 degrees or higher. They were not able to fix it during our stay. Also, on the last night we were awoken by a very loud sound in the living room at 4 am. We could not find the source until 7:30 when I finally found the large rat running around under the furniture dragging a large plastic rat trap on his broken front leg. When I discussed this with the staff, they said they were sorry for all of the problems and would give up some sort of credit or refund. I have called twice since returning home, and have never heard back from them and that was a month ago. Very disappointed to pay $1900 for 3 nights and have such a bad experience.
