“Mixed Feelings”

The staff here are super nice! Our rental home, "Sunrise," was fabulous. The activities we selected, horseback riding and ATV riding (twice) were absolutely spot-on. However, the place does need a clean-up. I have never been to a "resort" where so much of the operational aspects of the place are visible to guests. Staff housing, their ATV shop, extra wood storage for campfires, etc, need to be shielded from view of the guests. Having these things visible to guests makes the place look cluttered and unkempt. The restaurant was just "so-so." It was open for business, but service was slow, the food quality was low and to quote a restaurant worker, "we are out of everything." In fact, we ate in Orderville on our last night there. The road inside the resort needs work. Give me a month, and I could clean this place up to make it look more like a "resort."

We stayed in a rental home called Escape to Zion and it was wonderful. We had a family reunion there and the house was big, beautiful and just perfect for all 12 of us! We did participate in some of the resort things - like the pool but is was early May and not really warm - the boys did skeet shooting that was fun - I am not really rating the resort but the home in which we stayed!! Hopefully we can come back in 10 years and stay again - the house can sleep 22 people!!!

Everything about our experience was WONDERFUL. We initially wanted to stay in the RV park but there wasn't any availability. The reservation agent asked if we would like to be placed on their waiting list. We were. When it got closer to our arrival date and I didn't hear of a cancellation, I called and asked if it was possible for us to dry camp at their facility since our RV has a generator and is fully self-contained. They were able to accommodate us.

When we arrived a nice gentleman by the name of Hunter welcomed us at the entry. He escorted us to the Frontdesk and then to our dry camping area. Usually I don't remember people's names but I remembered Hunter's name because we kept seeing him and he always stopped and asked how we were doing. He was so friendly with our two boys.

We participated in the mini-golf as well as the zip line activities. Both were wonderful. The staff at the Activities Barn were so nice and sympathetic when my youngest son decided not to do the zip line.

In closing, I can't wait to go back and spend more time enjoying the resort and saying "Hi" to Hunter! What a great trip.

The Harhays.

What a shame that the owners and management have decided on not providing a quality experience, although the room rate should be satisfactory enough to provide for one.

The property has promise. A selection of varied accommodation from camping sites and RV pads to western style Wagon's, Log Cabin's and ultimately houses. This is supported by a range of activities in the common areas and an attempt at food and beverage offerings.

First the accommodation. We stayed in a 'Cabin'. The cabin would provide the impression that it would be somewhat self contained for the purposes of the stay. Negative. Do not be fooled that there would be any facilities provided in the cabin to complement the stay. Here the cabin is provided with absolutely 0 beyond a standard hotel room. You had better bring everything unless you prefer to drink out of disposable plastic cups. That's right. Not a spoon, a cutting board, a sharp knife, a plate to be had. One may not consider this to be too much of a problem apart from the absence of a food and beverage offering of worth.

Discussing the food and beverage options, breakfast was a sad experience with the restaurant running out of food even though the property had hundreds of people pre-booked for the weekend. In fact we were informed that they are 'not used to catering for that many guests', so they wanted to know in advance if we wanted to use the restaurant....Bizarre considering the property can host hundreds of guests across the accommodation offering. One other option available, which appeared to be half hearted in terms of opening and offering. Best to cater for yourself, provided that you remembered to bring along all but the kitchen sink.

If you are going to use the BBQ provided at the cabin, be sure to bring about 500 pounds of charcoal to be able to get enough heat generation to be close enough to the grill plate. One would think that a gas BBQ would be a smarter and more convenient solution given the proximity to Zion National park, Smoky the Bear and so forth. However, I am overlooking the key resort strategy of 'bring it all yourself'. Providing gas would mean they would have to provision and pay for that. Although the room rate could certainly have covered the princely cost of a little LPG.

The activities scene is plentiful in offering. But there is a catch. You have to be of the right age group. Little consideration is given to providing activities at this action packed property that allow both parents and children to participate together. Now, if your children are not 10+, then bad luck for you. Consequently much that could be done, but only if that involved the sedate sitting in the back of a vehicle being driven around. Lot's of parents standing around while children took part in what their age group allowed for. Definitely make sure that you understand the limitations before you go. Otherwise be prepared to explain to your youngsters that benign and tame experiences are not available to them.

Finally the service experience. I encountered some delightful and cheery team members during the stay. On the opposing account I encountered the opposite. All the good is so quickly pulled down by the one. My daughter attended horse riding and upon delivering her to the location I asked her to pass the tickets to the staff. 'I don't take the tickets.' Really?! How about that! And in the absence of any other advice I am supposed to be aware of that. 'Go to the office.' Oh? Why thank you. 'Can you move out of the way?' I beg your pardon! I'm sorry to be causing you such an inconvenience as a paying customer at your property.

Now if you don't 'bring it all', don't expect to find a well stocked shop on property where you can pick up things for dinner for example. Very basic. Looks like a 45 minute drive to pick up supplies!

It really wouldn't be too hard to lift the standard here and tidy up the place at the same time. Send Robert Irvine and Anthony Melchiorri over to provide a bit of guidance.

Do the research before you go!

Room Tip: If you want to be around the action and activities you should ask for a location there.

Stayed 2 nights at the cowboy cabins on our visit to Zion National Park. We stayed at their cowboy cabin , the price was very affordable . Very impressive! The common shower area were very clean and well maintained. Cabin #8 was the best site , close to the pool and the common shower area.

I discovered the Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort while researching reasonably priced places to stay that were close to Zion National Park. The western wagons caught my eye as a unique option that would be fun for my daughter and I to experience. I am so glad that we did! What a fun and memorable trip this was. The resort was near to the park for ease of driving and hiking, but far enough out that we felt like we had some peace and quiet. We loved the wagons - the beds were comfortable, the bathhouse was close by, and the fire pits were so much fun. The staff at the resort was exceedingly kind and helpful. I've been recommending the resort to my friends, and will definitely visit again in the future.

I stayed in the cabin suits with two friends. It was the perfect size for the three of us but four or five people would fit easily. It was close to zion and the drive in was beautiful. Staff was helpful and friendly. Erin even helped us plan some activities. Overall good experience. I would stay here again.
