Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort
Reviewed 29 June 2014

After our last disastrous trip to the Zion Ponderosa, my husband and I decided to write a note to the property Manager Michael Kane. He invited us back to try out the property again. We decided to take him up on his offer as we wanted to escape the heat of Las Vegas. Our stay in late June 2014 was much more enjoyable than our last trip there. We arrived very late on 6/20 and Mr. Kane himself was there to escort us in the dark to our campsite. The staff was VERY courteous and friendly. Lots of smiles this time. The pool was in pretty bad shape and there was a sign from management saying that they apologized for the condition of the pool as the winter had been very harsh and they hadn't gotten it fixed yet. The tiles had fallen off most of the lower half of the wall of the pool and water seemed to be coming out of the wall halfway down. There are a lot of things to do at the resort which will appeal to most people.

We showed up to this spot secluded next to Zion National Park in absolute amazement. There were very friendly staff everywhere, great areas to enjoy a pool, hot tub, sunset, and meal. We tented while we were there in a great spot and would love to come back on another visit to Zion with more time to stay at the resort and see the great park.

If nothing else, hanging out watching the scenery while the cool breeze blows is wonderful. We stayed in a rental home which was comfortable, lovely and well equipped (711). What 's more, wild turkeys walked on our railing, chipmunks scurried about and hummingbirds came to the feeder we hung.

The activities were great. We especially loved ATVing , canyoneering, zip-lining, having kids camp available , the lovely pool , and the miniature golf course.

We were somewhat disappointed in the chuckwagon dinner where the wagon drove out a road then came back the same road all before dinner. The wagon hand (break girl ) was clearly bored to death. Dinner was less than expected. BBQ chicken was replaced by processed turkey breast boiled on water. Many of my group loved the potatoes. The brisket pieces were small and gristly. The dessert advertised a la mode was not.

Likewise, we were disappointed in our meal in the grill. I ordered steak rare to medium rare. I rarely return an item but the dry, well done steak I got was awful to my taste. I returned it then my meal came back out after everyone else was finished. We were served water in small juice glasses and the pitchers which were put on our table were not refilled. The hamburgers looked good. They were, also, very nice with our 5 year old who is a little feisty.

The system is that you buy vouchers for activites. Then every time I showed up for an activity WITHOUT ANY MONEY , there were signs asking for tips. I was uncomfortable and very misput by this. Even on the chuckwagon dinner, we were greeted with a tip bucket. In this environment, we would much rather they hire good people, pay what they are worth, then charge what covers that. Even the front desk, when we checked out, asked for a tip. We spent over $5000 for 9 people for 5 days, and I thought the front desk should have been deliriously happy vs asking for a tip !

All that said, If we get the opportunity, we would be eager to come again!

My wife and I have visited Zions Ponderosa Resort several times. When we book a trip to Zions National Park we always make sure that we stay at their resort. The location is set up high where you have a very good view of the park. There are several things to do there to stay active and to have a great time. If you are planning a family trip with kids or just as a couple you need to stay this is the place to go. The management is beyond professionalism. They are truly there to make sure that every body has a good time. You can tell that they love there jobs and really try and help every one to have a great experience. I am a business man and have worked with several different companies and I have never seen a place ran so well and a great management team. This is the place you need to spend a few days at, if not you are definitely missing out. One last thing the price you pay to stay at the resort is actually very cheap and you get more than what you pay for.
I apologize for any typos I am righting this review during my break. I just wanted to make sure that I did a review for this resort just for how good it is. They deserve to be recognized for how good of a place it is.
Call now and reserve a place to stay.

We had a wonderful stay at the Ponderosa. We rented a deluxe cabin and had all we needed for a fun three days. The refrigerator could have been a little large, but we managed with ice in our cooler. All the people who work there are just fabulous and very polite and helpful. Everyone was eager to please us. Michael the General manager went above and beyond his duty to see that we got the cabin we had asked for and came back to visit several times to be sure we were happy. All the grounds were kept very clean and well cared for. What a lovely place for family fun for everyone. Tons to do and fun to be had. If you don't have a good time it would have to be your own fault because they all try VERY hard to help you enjoy everything.

Room Tip: Cabin number 107 is in a perfect spot to see all that is going on, easy access to the pool and short...

June 13/14, 2014: For our family reunion, 50+ stayed in a combination of Mountain Homes, Cabin Suites, and the RV location. Many activities helped provide entertainment for all age groups. Very kind and helpful staff. All that attended said they enjoyed their stay.

Room Tip: The Cabin Suites hide-a-bed frame/mattress will accommodate the weight of preschool children without...

Since the lodge in Zion Park was booked we decided to get a cabin at Zion Ponderosa Ranch for two nights. At the time our son was six and wasn't up for all the hikes in Zion so we scheduled him for the kids camp. Outstanding and Great Idea for Mom and Dad! That was the first time my wife decided to leave our only child with total strangers and while she worried all day, when we returned to pick him up that afternoon, he wasn't ready to leave. He was introduced to zip lining and horseback riding as well as playing games and swimming - all in one day. As for the cabins, they were nice and the skies at night - fantastic. We brought our telescope along and that was worth the extra luggage space. We also booked a sunset jeep tour and had one of the grand kids of the owner as a guide. It was a great night on the property. I would highly recommend staying at the resort and if we are ever up there again, we'll book a few additional nights and enjoy all the amenities. Also, just a short drive to Zion although when we were there construction slowed us down around the tunnel. But nothing we wouldn't do again even if there was construction.
