“When there's nothing else...”
Reviewed 28 January 2014

Red Rock Grill is the only restaurant open at Zion Lodge. Your food options are limited, just like their hours. Our room package included the breakfast buffet. Nothing extraordinary about it, food you expect from a hotel buffet: warmish pancakes and eggs, cold and warm cereal options, fruit and pastries. Service was mediocre. I saw people pouring their own coffee.
We came back for lunch. Typical lunch options, sandwiches, burgers, salads. We left hungry, the food was warm at best. Service was not any better. I asked the server for water twice. Finally came to pour and splashed the entire table and didn’t even acknowledge it.
They offer a sack lunch option for those not returning to the lodge for lunch. For $9.95 you can get a sandwich, chips and cookie. The advertisement for this is at the front desk, it says to provide at least an hour to prepare. We requested it as soon as we got to lunch, since the bulk of our hiking will be done in the afternoon/early evening. We had lunch at the restaurant, went back to the room to prep, came back about 2 hours later and were told the sack lunches would not be ready until the next day. The server who took our order said they were busy and there was no way around it. He was hesitant to cancel the order, since by the next day we would be gone and would not need it. Attitude in tow, he took about 20 min to come back and said it was done; we would not be charged and walked away and nothing else.
We decided to drive into town for dinner. Beautiful setting isn’t enough to make up for poor service.

“Perfect place for mid day pause”
Reviewed 20 December 2013

While hiking thru Zion Park we decided we needed to stop for some nourishment but found the deli closed for remodeling. As we explored more in the Lodge we found the Red Rock Grill upstairs. What a joy! The Bison chili stew was excellent and my wife loved the bison burger. Pared with glasses of Cab Sav it was a perfect repast. And the view is magnificent.

“Dinner just OK, Good option for Breakfast.”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Red Rock Grill has a captive audience, especially in the fall and winter when nothing else is open within Zion Park. We ate dinner one night and breakfast several times. Dinner was okay but not great. We arrived at 6:00 on a Sunday evening and did not need a reservation. Menu had a little bit of everything - steaks, fish, pasta and dinner salads. They also had a soup and salad bar. Food was fine, but not great. For breakfast they have a menu and buffet. The breakfast buffet was included in our room rate so we ate their daily. The buffet had something for everyone - pancakes, french toast, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, yogurt, fresh fruit and bakery items. We found the breakfast buffet to be appropriately priced for what you get at $11.95 for adults and $5.95. We started our day with a hearty breakfast and then had a snack on the trail for lunch.

Given the choice, we won't be going back to Red Rock for dinner as there are many interesting choices a short drive away in Springdale. Not a bad choice for breakfast.

“Go for lunch, stay for a drink”
Reviewed 13 November 2013

Stopped by one of the days where the downstairs "grill" was closed (by grill I mean burgers / fries sort of place) and was pleasantly surprised.

For just a couple bucks more than that basic (but filling) option, you get a full-service one here. I opted for the taco bar which was about as well done as anything of that name could imply. Friendly service, not much to report on further of course as it was self-service, but my soda refills were done with a smile and everyone around me seemed pleased with their meals too.

Of course this place is very popular with the evening crowd and most reviews focus on how it fills up, sells out, so it's worth noting that, even in off-season when I was there, they were booked up for the night. Make your plans in advance I suppose?
