In a small village like Chambon we did not expect to find a modern, elegant restaurant like Le Vieux Fournil. The owners have obviously done a complete refurbishment of the original old building - and they have done a very good job of it. The interior is elegant, nicely spacious and very tastefully decorated.
The food more than matches the decor. While they have a very economical set menu ($12 euro), we ordered a la carte. We had a main and desert. All dishes were excellent - well cooked, beautifully presented and very tasty.
The only disappointment was the coffee - we wanted cafe creme but could not have one because they had run out of milk. I guess it can happen in the best of restaurants, but more so in a small village, out of the peak tourist season.
Overall we went away very satisfied with our meal and the evening generally. Total cost, including a carafe of wine was under $60 euro - quite reasonable for a quality restaurant.
