“Great value and Excellent facilities,”
Reviewed 29 November 2013

Stayed for 6 nights late November. A very friendly welcome from Martin and a very pleasant surprise with the Chocolates, Wine and delicious Scones. Martin is obviously a very hands-on and meticulous Manager who has a very good eye for the needs of his guests. As ex-hoteliers we often find ourselves being overly critical but in this instance we found nothing but Positives! A very comfortable, clean and well equipped cottage in a lovely rural setting. Well Done Martin!

Dear Brian M, Well what better recommendation can you get! We always strive to please all of our guests, but it is fantastic to get such a positive review from people “formerly in the business” so to speak. I have been told that people within the tourism industry can be the most critical guests of all; so I am really pleased therefore, to be described as having “a good eye for the needs of his guests”. Thank you once again for your lovely review, and I hope that you will be able to visit us again sometime in the future. Kind regards, Martin.

Firstly, we have stayed in many cottages over time and always thought we had been treated well, but this really was to another level! Thank you Martin, you really made our stay at Windbury very special. On arrival Martin kindly showed us around the property making sure we knew exactly where everything was. Furthermore, we were greeted with homemade scones, clotted cream and jam, together with a bottle of wine and chocolates, not forgetting a complimentary pint of milk.
The standard of the accommodation was excellent, immaculate throughout with everything you could ever need to hand. The location was fantastic for some really lovely walks along the coast. Given that our stay was in November we were never cold in the cottage and it was such a lovely cosy place to come back to after a good long walk.
If like us you enjoy eating out there are some lovely pubs serving great food, and these are all listed in the visitors information book. During our stay we had one very wet and windy day which really was not suitable for walking costal paths in so we went into Bideford and Barnstable and did some shopping. highly recommend a trip to Clovelly.
Overall we had an excellent week and would highly recommend
Thank you Martin

Dear Sophie W, Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review of your stay in Windbury Cottage. I am delighted that you appreciated your welcome. We put a few things in the cottage such as wine, chocolates, tea and coffees, and our home-made scones and strawberry jam so that you can relax a set up the holiday mood. I always give a tour of the cottage, so that you have an idea where everything is. I agree that Yapham is in a lovely part of Devon for walking, even at this time of year when it is starting to turn a little chilly. It is great to return to a lovely, warm cottage afterwards. I hope to see you again in the future. Kind regards, Martin.

We stayed here 2nd Nov for 6 nights, greeted by a happy and smiling Martin we were shown the cottage Windbury which was immaculate. Cream tea, wine, chocolates, magazines, maps, guide books, James Bond DVDs, extra bedding, every kitchen utensil under the sun... I could go on. The cottage was very clean, warm and cosy, and the setting ideal even in the rain where we didn't enjoy the gardens much! The website is worth a look - video showing the cottage was a real bonus (why don't more people do this). Like I said we really couldn't find fault - highlight was the selection of James Bond DVDs from the 70's and 80's which were fab, nice time snuggled up watching those with some wine after a soggy walk.

So all in all highly recommended. I have recommended it to my parents who fancy a trip to the area, and that's praise indeed.

The area is fantastic. Day 1 we did a walk from Yapham to the coast, coast path down to the amazing little village of Clovelly - nice pint and walk back. You need to bit fit as some of the hills are fairly entertaining, but great. Mid week we walked along the beach to Bude, again staggering scenery. Last day highlight was a 1hr drive to Lynmouth and a walk up the gorge to Watersmeet (National Trust) this is well worth a visit. Some real diversity on this coast for those who like walking.

Highly recommended, and Martin is very helpful and welcoming - the cottages while close together are very private indeed with every amenity available.

Dear uktraveller977, Wow this is high praise indeed. You are making me blush! Thanks for writing about your recent trip to Yapham. I am glad that you enjoyed all of the things provided in the cottage. I think it is great to come to North Devon outside of the peak season. As you say, it is really invigorating to walk the coast path at this time of year. The wind can really whip up the surf, and then the waves crash against the rocks. It is really spectacular to watch, or photograph. We put books, CDs and DVDs into the cottages, so that you can relax in your warm, cosy cottage if the weather is not too good. I look forward to welcoming your parents, and yourselves again, to Yapham in the future. Kind regards, Martin.

We stayed at Barley Cottage for 3 nights in early November and loved it! The property was excellently maintained with a high quality finish and was spotless throughout. It has a lovely conservatory looking out onto the gardens and a nice view from the lounge over the rolling hills. We were personally greeted and welcomed to the site & showed around our cottage where we were greeted with chocolates, home made scones, jam & cream, milk & a few dog treats which our four legged friend very much appreciated! The cottage was cosy & warm and had all the items we required, a well stocked kitchen with all cutlery, utensils & crockery, an oven, hob, microwave, toaster, kettle etc etc. A small TV and a few books & DVD supplied in the cosy lounge and an immaculate en-suite shower / toilet in the bedroom. The cottage was lovely & quiet and was a great place to relax for a few days. It's close to the South West Coast Path for some great walking and also has good amenities in the nearby town of Hartland which is just a 5 minute drive away where you'll find 2 well stocked convenience stores and a couple of pubs. It's a great place to explore North Devon including Bude, Barnstaple, Bideford, Braunton & Croyde all within approx 30-45 min drive. Overall a great little cottage, thank you for making our stay perfect.

Dear goonerjon2, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay in Barley Cottage. Barley makes a great choice of cottage for an out of season break. Even though it may not be warm outside, the conservatory makes it feel as though you are sitting outdoors, but without the chill! I am so pleased that you were able to get out and about to all of the lovely little towns in North Devon and Cornwall. I am also delighted that your “four-legged friend” enjoyed the treats we left. We don’t want the dogs feeling left out whilst you tuck into your scones, cream, and strawberry jam. Take care, and we hope that you will visit us again soon. Kind regards, Martin.

A quiet and peaceful rural location with 3 cottages of varying sizes. We stayed in Barley Cottage, a 1 bed cottage with plenty of character and a lovely conservatory. All fixtures were in good working order and the cottage was spotless. Welcomed in person on arrival in a very friendly manner. On entering the property we found home made scones with jam and cream, chocolate, wine, flowers, a tv guide and some dog treats - this is what made this property really stand out! In the summer months the grounds would be perfect for a BBQ however we were cosy in the heated conservatory despite the raging storms. With the South West Coast path easily accessible and plenty of rural walks to beautiful beaches there is lots to keep you busy. Also within easy driving distance of several pubs and other areas of interest. We had a lovely, relaxing stay - thank you!

Dear A Tripadvisor Member, Thank you for writing about your recent stay at Yapham Cottages. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your break. I know that the weather wasn’t good that week, although some walkers seem to enjoy that more than if it is really hot and sunny like it can be in the summer. I think one of the advantages is that you can go to Hartland Quay, or one of the other local beaches during stormy weather; and watch the waves crash against the cliffs. The power of the sea really is breath-taking: an awe inspiring spectacle! Even better, is to return to a warm, cosy cottage after your walk. I do hope that you will come back and stay with us in the future. Kind regards, Martin.

We have just spent a wonderful and relaxing week in Windbury Cottage. On arrival, we received a friendly welcome from Martin, who proved to be the perfect host and his attention to detail ensured that this was one of the best equipped cottages we have ever stayed in and the cost was very reasonable. Also, the goodies generously provided (flowers, a large box of chocolates, a bottle of wine and a cream tea) were exceptional and very much appreciated. Yapham is peacefully situated in a great location for exploring North Devon, with its surrounding grounds ideal for exercising our dog. We will certainly recommend the cottages to our friends and family,
