“An amazing family Christmas house”
Reviewed 7 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

This was our second visit to Berry House or a family Christmas and it was just as amazing this time as in 2011.
The dining room is perfect for large family meals having a lovely homely atmosphere with enough space for everyone to sit comfortably. The decoration and tableware lend themselves to making the occasion feel extra special.
We were supplied with enough logs to keep a roaring fire in the large and comfy sitting room throughout our stay even the the whole house was cosy warm at all times.
The kitchen is a dream with sufficient pans, dishes, cooking facilities, fridge and freezer storage to cater for 24 guests for the week.
Our youngsters (and oldsters) had great fun in the barn each day playing football, badminton or simply sitting as a large group to watch a Christmas film (plus there was another TV room in the house we could have gathered in if more viewing was wanted.
Every bedroom is large and comfortable and the plentiful bathrooms with ample hot water made sure we never queued for a shower/bath.
All in all, an amazing large family sized house with a cosy welcoming atmosphere.

“Brilliant place to spend quality time with extended family”
Reviewed 7 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

Berry House epitomises what the Big House Company represents to us – a group of friends welcoming us to their house with the fire lit and a basket of goodies awaiting. The weather was atrocious, but nothing could dampen our Christmas – the second we have spent at Berry House, and hopefully not the last. The house may be windswept and isolated, but warm and cosy inside and we had all we needed to entertain all ages from 8 to 80+ Games Barn, Games Room, TV and Internet, and a great space for hide and seek or a treasure hunt. To see that dining room set for Christmas dinner for 24 was amazing, and lazy breakfasts in the family room went on for two or three hours! Also, the pantomime you recommended was great – enjoyed by everyone.

We have already visited Tonedale and Widcombe Grange and are now planning another August stay at Widcombe Grange in 2017.

North Devon definitely has that wild, windswept "Wuthering Heights" appeal to it; great scenery, rugged cliffs, long beaches. Exploring the area, even in winter is delightful, especially with Berry House to return.
It's great to hear how well suited Berry House is to your group. Christmas is such a good time for those family get togethers that are so special, we're really pleased you had another great stay at a Big House. We hope you'll return again soon!
Best wishes, Peter.

“Great Fun Had By All”
Reviewed 4 December 2015 for a stay in November 2015

We stayed at the house for 2 nights and all 18 of our party had a great time and the facilities kept us all entertained. The rooms and kitchen were brilliant I especially liked the large living room with open fire.

The meal that the catering staff provided was fantastic too and I would definitely look at using the house again for another large get together.

“Lads Get Together”
Reviewed 21 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

22 of us travelled from all over the UK, majority from Bristol, for a lads weekend. The house is situated in a beautiful part of North Devon, albeit quite remote, but that suited our requirements. The property itself is ideal for large groups, the games barn is excellent and the table football/ pool table in the actual house, kept the competitive edge going all w/e. The sleeping arrangements were first-rate, and all the rooms were very clean and there are plenty of en-suite and communal bathrooms for all. The whole process of booking the accommodation, meeting the agent was seamless, and I would highly recommend this property to people of all ages.

“perfect big house for a family get together”
Reviewed 1 September 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Everything was perfect. The warm welcome, the beautiful rooms - all more than big enough for our large party to be comfortable in and to spread out, the well-equipped kitchen and the wonderful location. We were unlucky with the weather but the central heating and large number of indoor activities for all ages (barn and games room) meant that this was really not a problem. We did not quite get to the stage of lighting the fires but they were there ready to go if we needed them. We had a very enjoyable holiday at Berry House.

“Perfect house in stunning location”
Reviewed 24 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We booked Berry House for our family get together, 16 of us ranging in age from 3-80 years! Our week was perfect. The whole house was meticulously clean upon our arrival and thoughtfully a selection of local treats (cake, cheese, chutney etc) was left in the kitchen for us to enjoy. Berry House is beautiful, loads of character, extremely comfortable and thoughtfully equipped for a large get together. Very homely and not pretentious at all. The amazing kitchen and breakfast room is where we all loved to hang out at mealtimes, standing chatting around the island, or we enjoyed to sit and drink tea in the bright breakfast room. The more formal sitting room became a quiet reading room for some of the adults. The formal dining room with an enormous square table was beautifully set but we ended up mostly eating in the breakfast room. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated and the bed linen and towels were high end hotel standard. The beds were really comfortable too. The barn was brilliant for the younger ones to hang out in, with plenty of games, balls, TV/video and indoor soccer, as well as two full size basketball hoops. In the evenings we all enjoyed to sit in the snug room with the pool table and table football and enjoyed watching videos or the TV. The gardens are very pretty too.

The views are stunning and the rugged coastline is a short walk away, with some of the most breath taking views I've seen. I would recommend a visit to Hartland Quay where we enjoyed good beer and a fish and chips lunch, sitting outside taking in the views of the sea and coastline. We also had a lot of fun renting bikes from Torrington Cycle Hire where we cycled 8 miles to Instow along the old rail track (no road to worry about) and had a lovely meal at The Quay Inn. Clovelly was also an interesting place to visit. We had a brilliant week, it was very hard to leave and we would love to go back next year. Thank you Big House Company.

“Best Big House Ever”

Cannot overstate how good this place is. Travelled down last week with a large group of university friends for a long overdue reunion, and from the minute we arrived we knew we'd chosen the perfect spot. The house is stunningly located - the surrounding coastal walks and isolated bays are among the most beautiful I've ever seen in the UK - and exudes an air of mystery and intrigue that lends an air of cinema to every moment spent there. The enormous, well-stocked kitchen makes for a perfect place to stand nattering for hours while more gracious guests turn their hand to cooking for a crowd; the dining room and living room are both grand spots right out of an Agatha Christie novel, while the pool room and enormous games barn (indoor football and basketball!) will keep kids and the young at heart busy for hours or even days on end. On top of that, every one of the many bedrooms was comfortable and well furnished, and the most upmarket two or three felt straight out of a top hotel. Best of all, the place isn't so glamorous that guests feel they can't put glasses down - there's a homely, lived in feel that extends throughout. We were absolutely heartbroken to leave the place. I know we'll return.
