Park City Hotel - Tamsui Taipei

For my standard this is really a decent 3 Star hotel. My room was spacious and clean. That was it. The best part is you do get a very nice view from all the rooms. It was something nice to wake up to. For that view you have to sacrifice a little quiet time. The major road is just in front of it. All the windows are double glazed so it isn’t too bad but it all depends on your level of noise tolerance. My bed was extremely stiff, even for Asian standard. Breakfast was equally basic but the environment was good. Service was wonderful, like most Taiwanese hotel. Not much in term of finding anything in the neighborhood. Wi-Fi was free but weak and unstable. And it log itself out when you are not using it. I don’t know if it is fair to compare this to hotels in central Taipei but the standards are lower here. Prices are reasonable though

You’ll have to ride the metro for an hour at about $1, or take a cab for 45 minutes at about $12 – $14 to travel between downtown Taipei and this hotel. There’s a satellite settlement one metro stop away which has many amenities. This particular Park City location is a nice place to relax and visit nearby attractions if you’re okay with muffled road noise. Although the rooms were fitted with double pane windows, they weren’t soundproof; noise gets in from various seams, constantly reminding you of the real world.

I need to stop trusting “Soundproof” claims on booking sites.

The clerk could not locate my reservation upon check-in and the double bed in the room was actually built out of 2 twin mattresses. Since this is not the first time I’ve encountered this situation, I’ve requested a real double bed during booking, but apparently nobody reads that and I had to request additional items after being unable to find them in the room. You’d guess that the staff should have read the special instructions and let me know they weren’t able to fulfill them…

Internet connectivity here is not good and has room for improvement. Although latency is good, it was far from stellar; bandwidth is also inadequate. The most I can get is 3.96 mbps down, 0.38 mbps up and 22 ms to the closest local node. I have a bad feeling that this could be the limits of a single line shared by the entire location.

The rooms smelled like mold. After running the air conditioner for a while, it smelled less like mold. The laundry form was wrinkled and moldy, possibly from submersion. I’m surprised that it hasn’t been replaced. The two round, white grills on the ceiling were rusty. The windows creak when they were opened or closed and that wasn’t an isolated incident; one of the balcony doors did not latch. There’s a captive portal that mentioned, hey, we’ve blocked peer-to-peer transmission just because they use up too much bandwidth.

My priorities certainly clash with this hotel’s.

Conclusion: don’t book this place if you need to get into downtown or need to survive with use of the internet; come if you’re just relaxing and want to enjoy great mountain and river view.

Room Tip: Rooms 1308 has floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open into a balcony.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom clean, all the plumbing worked fine. The internet speed was adequate. The staff were very friendly and helpful and there was always someone who spoke adequate English if you needed help. The breakfast buffet was not great but it was pretty good and had a good variety for all tastes.

This hotel location would probably not be considered "prime" for most visitors to the Taipei area. It is located two stops away from the end of the local MRT line, and I believe it was around 45-50 minutes via MRT to downtown Taipei (with a transfer). Luckily the MRT station is just across the street. There is a 7-11 next door, but no good options for restaurants within walking distance. However taking the MRT two stops to Tamsui will put you in the middle of a busy and vibrant town with a plethora of food options including a Mr Brown's and a Domino's Pizza and McDonald's if you are looking for a known food alternative to the local fare. I enjoyed the local fare at the outdoor market along the river/bay, with a great variety of food options and a park where folks come to relax and watch the sunset. From here you can take a small ferry across the river to another bustling market area with food, shops, and a bike path along the river for biking/skating/jogging.

So in a way, although the location is not perfectly convenient, it does force you to do some exploring. And the five minute walk and five minute MRT trip to Tamsui is similar to the time it would take to walk 10-15 minutes from a more central hotel to a restaurant. And visiting attractions always takes some form of transportation time. The MRT is clean and comfortable and inexpensive, but if you want to take a cab, they are also very inexpensive.

If you are visiting ASUS HQ, this hotel is a decent option as it is ~10-15 minutes via cab or a few MRT stops away.

Another upside to the location: a friend I was traveling with went jogging for miles in the mornings on a path that ran along the river, easily accessible from the hotel.

This hotel was very clean, and located just about 3 minutes walk from the MRT station. But as it's located in Danshui, it also took about half an hour drive to central Taipei.
The room was small, the lift too, but the wash basin had a peculiar knob, which is you have to pull the knob in order to using it! Also one of my friends room from had a broken glass in it!
The breakfast selection was nice, but nothing to sing about it...

This hotel is nice--the amenities are great, the breakfast buffet was delicious, and the staff very accommodating. It's close to the nearest station--only about a 5 minute walk--but is unfortunately very far from central Taipei (about a 40 minute ride to Taipei Main Station). There is not much happening in this area, so if you are looking to get out and sightsee close to your hotel, this is not the place to go.

It was my first time to visit Taipei last April. The Hotel's amenities is standard, but the price was really affordable, (booked it at a special discounted price in one of the online reservation websites) PROs: Aside from the affordable price, it is just a short 5 minute walk from the MRT line CONS: Since it is located in Danshui district, the Hotel is at the FAR end of the MRT line. For us, we didnt mind that it was far, since the station was just near the hotel and the MRT rides was a nice time for sightseeing Oh btw, they have a business center with free wifi and complimentary breakfast as well

Great location across the street from an access path to the Hong Shu Lin mangrove forest. Clean rooms. No nasty smoke smell. Homey, functional shower. Very fun exercise room with all sorts of fun machines, including a horseback riding simulator and a surfing simulator. Elliptical and stair climber as well.

Room Tip: You want to ask for a room facing the mangrove forest.
