A definite experience for your city kids! Just 10 minutes off the freeway, strawberry fields in the neighborhood, absolutely convenient even for a Hong Kong family like us. Rooms are huge and clean, kids enjoy pillow frights upon the loft without giving parents too many troubles. Farm animals walk around as you are one of them. Giant turkey welcomes you before you step out the car, of course the two lovely sheepdog collie as well. Donkey waiting at your door, peacock shows her dress in the middle of the yard. First time to discovered chickens all live and lay eggs on trees, however it doesn't help to avoid their eggs to serve on our plates.
The couple Mr & Ms Fann (owners) are someone you won't forget, very nice and helpful. Ms Fan prepares different kinds of local breakfast and take care our inquiries. Mr Fann not only a professor in philosophy but also in whiskey as well! He gave us a lesson about whiskey on the 1st night together with another very nice family Lo whom also the guest next room, Mr Fann shared some of his collections of whiskey and we also finished two bottles of Red Wine that night.

After retiring in 1995 from teaching philosophy in York University in Toronto, he returned to his native village and turned an abandoned 1 hectre ancestral farm into an organic retirement paradise. He designed and built a unique six-sided home flanked by two guest rooms, all with large windows allowing full views of the seasonal changes of the picturesque scenery outside. He planted many century-old trees; more than 100 kinds of fruit trees and flowering plants. He keeps and breeds all kinds of rare parrots and some of them are flying free and will land on guests' shoulders. There are chickens, ducks, geese, fowls, peacocks, rabbits, etc. running free. He also keeps honeybees and collects his own honey and pollen. The property is surrounded on three sides by a river and shaped like a thumb, thus named Thumb-up retreat. On one side there is a glass pagoda and on the other side a scenic washroom with an open view to the river. There is a lily pond and a fish pond on the premise.
