Great place with a really lovely welcome from Shirley and Godfrey. Room was very comfortable and as everybody says, the breakfast is great. Excellent home-cured bacon in particular. Extra bonus - as soon as we arrived we were given a parking permit for the carpark across the road. Very good detail that just makes things a lot easier.

The gracious hosts of The Maples must think I am a bad penny as I turn up consistently when I visit my friends in the New Forest. A warm welcome, a comfortable room and family feel keeps me coming back again and again. Beware of the Full Monty English breakfast that Shirley creates because it's wonderfully complete with everything you could wish, but she is willing to make you a Mini-Monty if you are watching your weight. The house is perfectly located near the ferry to Southampton, and the sound of the little train that chuffs back and forth down the pier is a soothing way to drift off to sleep. Parking is convenient with a permit provided for the car park across the street. My friends always recommend The Maples to all who visit. See you next year!

I smiled as I read through the reviews, unsurprised that my outstanding experience at The Maples was no happy accident.
It's really quite simple. People pay money to stay somewhere. It should be clean, well-run, reasonably priced, offer a decent breakfast. The Maples scores 10/10 on all counts.
The landlady, Shirley, exudes a glamorous efficiency, combined with a warmth that we Americans imagine the "typical" British landlady would be like. But after 30 yrs in the UK, she is truly the first I've met. She reminds you of your favourite auntie. Beautiful, friendly, breezy, and so welcoming (even offered to make us a pot of tea when we got in, though we had tea and coffee making facilities in our room!) Now THIS is what I call service; above and beyond...
Our room was a twin and she went through the trouble of changing it to a double bed even though we said we didn't mind...Loved the decor, everything about the beautiful old house, (didn't have a chance to enjoy the garden; rain) but the breakfast was simply to die for...
If you don't stay here, you do yourself a disservice! we will certainly be returning and telling everyone to go there, at least once, just to see how it's done properly...

Room Tip: we were in three, very happy...

What a fantastic place! Wow it's like going to stay with your favourite aunt n uncle! Shirley and Godfry are sooo lovely they make you so welcome, that is after Godfry tries to scare you by saying your room was cancelled! ( he's got a wicked sense of humour). We arrived and were given a parking permit for the car park and the friends we were visiting were also given one free of charge!
After we were shown to our room and given lots of info about were everything was, shirley asked if we'd like a cuppa even though there were facilities in our room, which bythe way was lovely, very big comfey bed with view over a ship yard and water in the distance, which my husband loved, watching the massive container ships come in, and be tugged by the tiny little boats!
Hythe itself so very pretty and has this feeling of friendliness and saftey everywhere you go.
So we went off exploring with our friends and when we reterned after a wonderfull meal in the local thia resturant we had a wonderfull nights sleeep in the room, Shirley had kindly invited our friends to join us for thier brealfast at a reduced rate, which they kindly accepted.
Wow again the breakfast wes fab, everything you could ask! I particularly loved the massive variety of fresh fruit, and My husband Steve loved the full monty braekfast! Though breakfast Godfry kept us very entertained with his fab jokes and very dry sence of humour,
On our last night we were very sad to be leaveing and agian had a wonderfull nights sleep, we had chatted to Godfrey and Shirley thoughout our stay and now felt like we knew them like family, They are wonderfull people and show such exrta special care to thier guests, we shall definatly return, Thank you so much, we shall see you agian, soon i hope. xx
Oh and as we left there was a fab little crafts and seconhand market in hythe which we wanderd round before comming back up to yorkshire! Thanks again , from Carolyn n steve xx

Room Tip: I would imagine all the rooms are wonderfull althpough when i booked i was asked if we wanted ensuit...

I chose this hotel from the reviews I read here and we were not disappointed, it was as described and more. Shirley and Godfrey are excellent hosts who are welcoming, friendly and warm, and work very hard to make it the wonderful home and hotel that it is and that is enjoyed by so many people.

The hotel was extremely clean, and homely. There was a very good selection of breakfast cereals, fresh fruits and the cooked breakfast was very tasty. There is a fridge in the dining room that can be used by the guests.

We stayed in an en-suite room with our daughter, the room was big enough for all 3 of us to be comfortable in. The tea and coffee facilities were very good, with a good supply of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. My husband and I were able to sit in a couple of tub chairs on the galleried landing while we waited for our daughter to fall asleep in the evenings which helped a lot. And the room had blackout blinds as well as curtains, which was great! We could see part of the sea from one of the windows and enjoyed spotting a big cruise liner and a couple of ferries go by.

We were given a parking permit to use in the car park opposite for the duration of our stay which was very thoughtful and helpful.

It is on the edge of the New Forest and close to Southampton too, so a good place to stop and enjoy a couple of days. We stayed for 4 nights and I would not hesitate to recommend it, we also would like to return in the future.

A one night stay prior to cruise out of Southampton. Three rooms. Every aspect...perfect. the owners worked tirelessly to make our stay.... perfect, in fact the whole experience was....perfect, absolutely faultless. And.......what a breakfast. Hats off to Shirley and Godfrey the perfect hosts.

Room Tip: No swimming pool and no fitness centre but if they had either sure it would be perfect. All the room...

We stayed for 2 nights at The Maples Hotel. Shirley and Godfrey welcomed us as if we were family. They were very accommodating; our bikes were stored in the hallway, we had a car park pass for the weekend and an early breakfast wasn't a problem. The rooms were spotlessly clean. The linen was fresh, the towels plentiful. More than enough coffee/tea/milk etc in the room. Delightful shower. Can't praise this place enough! Oh, and when I requested pancakes for breakfast so I could eat up the blueberries with maple syrup and bacon, there was no hesitation! We would 100% definitely call back to this glorious place again!
