“A perfect place for a break!”

We loved the Stables - we were made to feel very welcome by the owners (and the pet sheep in the paddock along with the two pigs!) - we were warm, comfortable, immediately at home, and we thoroughly revelled in the light, airy, spacious surroundings. The owners have a great eye for detail and have chosen quality decor, furnishings and equipment. We always worry that a cottage might not be warm enough, HAVE NO FEAR - the construction is first class with no draughts, superb insulation and very efficient central heating - you will not be cold!!

During our stay we found Broadwindsor to be an equally great location for exploring both coastal Dorset, and inland places of interest. The cottage handbook is a really helpful guide and points visitors to many places of interest that might otherwise be missed, including such off-beat gems as the Old Jalopy Pizza van and the Red Brick cafe (both in Bridport and both recommended!). Do find the time to visit Chesil Beach, Lulworth Cove, Burton Bradstock, Durdle Door, Beer (for deckchairs and Beach huts for hire!), and many of the walks that link interesting bays and beaches (an OS map is handy). Watch out for Sat Nav tendencies to take you down very narrow 'short-cuts' - it's often best to stick to the bigger roads unless you're feeling adventurous, although it can be fun to explore some of the back roads too!

Dark skies (lots of stars!) and absolute quiet are features that are important to us and we weren't disappointed. Wildlife is abundant, the scenery is glorious and Dorset's Jurassic coast is fascinating. Whilst you're in the area, don't miss The Hive Beach Cafe at Burton Bradstock, where you'll find lovely food ranging from Cream Teas at one end of the spectrum to expensive but delicious fish dishes at the other. The cafe publishes its own recipe book which says a lot about its aspirations, its range and its well-placed confidence in the chef.

Do visit The Stables, you'll not be disappointed!

Regards,
Pete and Hil Clayton

“AWESOME”
Reviewed 9 January 2012 for a stay in December 2011

This cottage was absolutely perfect. I think it was an amazing price for the quality of our stay. The owners decorated our cottage with a christmas tree (as we stayed over the holidays) which was very nice. Private back deck, friendly sheep, plenty of room and a cozy feel. We will be back!
