Went on a special offer with two friends on a two night break. The b and b rate was good but the bar and restaurant were both quite expensive. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night and because we were allowed to pick from the bar menu it was reasonable enough and the meal was fine. The waiter was very polite and attentive. We went to breakfast at nine thirty on the Monday morning and it was very poor. I am vegetarian and chose scrambled egg which was cold and leathery so it was inedible. Weetabix was all gone at this stage and half a fried egg was all that was left for my friends as well as the bacon and sausage. There was no milk for the cereal and no bowls and we were left standing for several minutes trying to get sorted. There was a young band playing between six thirty and nine thirty on sunday evening There was a barbecue going on also. The hotel had rang us to warn us about the loud music so I have no gripe about that. We were not impressed with service at the bar and public areas such as the bar reception and stairs were shabby. There was no lift which was an issue for two of us and we did not enjoy the two flights of steep stairs to our room. Our rooms were very dark and did not have a view of the mountains. Windows in both rooms had faulty window catches. The sinks in both rooms were scratched and theamount of toiletries given was very stingy -no shower caps and one bottle of shower cream and one of shampoo. There were no biscuits on the tea tray. Beds were very comfortable and I slept well. My biggest issue with this hotel was the dreadful smell of must and what could only be described as stale urine which.pervaded the corridors reception and bar area on Monday afternoon and evening. Please do not insult my intelligence and my olfactory sense by suggesting that the smell was from vanilla candles as was suggested to another contributor to Tripadvisor. The smell was overpowering and very offensive. Breakfast on Tuesday morning was much better and a tray was brought up to one of the girls in our group very promptly. We were not asked on checking out how we enjoyed our stay and I feel sorry for a staff who have answer customers under the circumstances. Conditions need to be improved in this hotel to bring them to an acceptable standard. I have given this hotel an honest and fair review as experienced by my friends and I where I gave credit where due and pointed out faults which need attention. It is in a lovely scenic location and it would be a shame if it closed for want of some care and attention.

Stayed in one of the lodges for a wedding. Very clean and good price. Comfortably slept three couples. Only fault was the lodge could do with a lick of paint. The food at the wedding was amazing. Definitely recommended. Ballroom lovely with great views of the mountains. Efficient food service and good bar service after the meal. Unfortunately bar service before the meal in the upstairs bar was poor as two people serving over 200 guests isn't going to work!

We celebrated our parents joint 70th birthday with a photo shoot and meal afterwards at the hotel. The management and staff were so accommodating and patient, not easy when dealing with 10 small children as part of the party! We had use of the sitting room for the photo shoot and the Blue Room of the restaurant to ourselves for the meal, so the children could do what they do but we didn't disturb any of the many people dining in the rest of the restaurant. Excellent value and 200% for service!

We recently celebrated our wedding at Aherlow House Hotel and we cannot recommend Aherlow, Carol (the wedding co-ordinator), and all the staff highly enough! From the first moment we arrived for our initial meeting, to the morning we left two days after our wedding, everything was done to make the weekend the most memorable weekend of our lives. Everything we hoped for when booking Aherlow was made real and even exceeded our expectations! Carol was superb and couldn't have done more for us. Our guests have been commenting on how wonderful the whole weekend was, from the venue in the beautiful Glen, to the food, accommodation and the friendliness of whole staff. We would recommend Aherlow to any couple who are looking for a romantic, friendly and special venue with a homely feel. Thank you Carol, John and all in Aherlow for making our special weekend so wonderful!! Mike and Deborah Harty

My wife and I spent a wonderful two days in the olde world Aherlow House Hotel recently. The location is a magical, mystical place . Food was fantastic and the staff were very attentive, offering extra portions extra tea and coffee. The manager,John McCarthy is a real hands-on type of person and was unfailingly courteous and helpful. Rooms were spacious and very well furnished the only drawback being that they don't yet have an elevator, although I understand there may be plans to install one. Views of Aherlow valley and the magnificent Galtee mountains added to the enjoyment and the mystique of the entire area. The lodges, which are adjacent to the hotel seem to be of an equally high standard to the hotel and I am told are ideal for self catering and for families. An excellent steak dinner set us back 19.95 each while a delicious cod and chips cost a measly 13.90 each. Another thing we really like about the hotel was that a vodka and 7up only cost 4.10,as they don't appear to charge extra for the mixer. All in all a really enjoyable couple of days. This establishment really "does what it says on the tin". Eamonn Maguire(Navan and Mayo)

This is my all time favourite hotel. Fabulous location, breath taking scenery. Nestled in a wood with a beautiful drive leading to it.

Hotel has a safe, spacious rooftop with plenty tables offering the choice of eating out side while enjoying the scenery. Bar is nice and cozy with a lovely menu and always a friendly face ready to offer their service.

The hotel has so much character, it really is like stepping into someones home as it has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I have always found it to be spotlessly clean.

We have had several family occasions over the years here (and hopefully will have our wedding one day) and the food has always been top class, staff have been helpful, friendly and efficient.

I would recommend it to all.
