You need reservations because this restaurant is immensely popular with locals and tourists alike. It is basically a giant chalet with extra seating outside. The food is very good (pasta, pizzas and meats alike) and affordable. But because it's so popular, it gets very noisy and hectic, with people hovering around tables that look like they might become available soon and standing in the door arguing with people that seem to be jumping the queu. Some call it " full of Italian atmosphere" but you could also call it "chaos".Staff works really hard, remaining patient and friendly, but in our case we never got that second bottle of wine we ordered and the coffees never reached us either. For us, it was something of a dinnershow and we enjoyed it. But if it's a quiet dinner you're after, you might want to pick another place.

Amazing place! Pretty uninspiring from the outside, but inside it's like a festa! Both times we went it was absolutely crowded, very noisy, full of Italian warmth and gusto. The food was very good, the service rushed and frantic but hugely efficient and friendly despite. This is a premier truffle region - I'd always considered truffles under-rated but here you really see what all the fuss is about. Maybe it's to do with freshness - apparently the owner gathers local truffles personally - as the truffle omelette here was head and shoulders above everywhere else we tried it in the region. The restaurant is very popular; at weekends, loads of Romans make the 5-hour round trip specifically to eat here - and who can blame them? If you're visiting the region (and I'd recommend you do) a meal here is a must. It's a real experience.

A very good local trattoria - well-known in the region and widely supported by locals. Antipasto and primi (pasta dishes) are very good; it is best-known for its meat dishes (alla bracia) and truffles. If you are travelling in the Valnerina (which is an area all Italian visitors should come to know) it is wsorth timing your arrival in Preci to have lunch here.

We visit Preci fairly frequently and are regular visitors to this restaurant situated on the main road through Preci. Family owned and managed Il Castoro offers a range of Umbrian specialities at a consistently high standard.

Virtually everything on the menu is made on the premises and anipasti, pizzas, pasta, meat dishes and desserts are all good. The restaurant specialises in truffles and the proprietor also owns the local truffle hunting dog so he knows where to get the best produce. Visiting this restaurant in October and November is a special treat as truffles, fungi porcini and wild boar are all in season and it's a special treat to visit at that time of year.

The house antipasto served with "frittata al tartufo" (truffle omelette) is recommended - they are always happy to give you extra plates so you can share. From the truffle section of the menu the steak with truffle and porcini mushrooms is wonderful.

Pizzas are fantastic here, cooked in a wood-fired oven with a crispy base.

This restaurant is a very typical welcoming family establishment and well worth a visit. It is recommended you reserve a table in the summer months and for week-ends through the year; sometimes there are actually coaches parked outside on Sunday lunchtimes where people have come from Rome to eat there!

It's a family place they also serve pizza, but it is known for truffle wich in umbria should be very good but instead of truffle you will find in your plate a creamy sauce with summer truffle and some other stuff! It is cheap but just because it is not worthy!
