This was a wee highlight! The boats are small and great fun (if you don't mind some 'hearty' sea spray on a choppy day!). At €8 for an adult on the boat it's decently priced, as the caves and the grotto are beautiful. We took advice and went in the morning - go in the morning when the sky is blue and sunny for maximum impact! Fab fun, recommended!

First I was a bit skeptical and thought that it might be overrated, but afterwards when I got there I knew that it was worth the visit.
I wasn't able to go on the one of the boats because of the weather that day didn't allow it so I can't express an opinion about that, but I highly recommend you to go to the area of the 'panoramic view' bus stop. It's about 15 minutes of walk from the bus stop off the tourist buses. The view is great and it's worth sweating a little.

It was such a long, slow trip on the public bus - 3 buses from Sliema - that was recommended by hotel!...wrong advice & perhaps a taxi or a driver/guide would have been better?? The 20 min boat trip was very pretty but not really amazing like the Great Barrier Reef & other natural wonders of the world and no opportunities to swim - at least not around the marina area/grotto. We arrived at 1ish on a sunny day so the water was clear and beautiful although we hear that the sea caves actually glow earlier in the morning. After the boat trip we had lunch - a 3 course menu as we walked up the hill from the boats - good fish/salad but my husband's calamari the worst ever! After that we waited yet again for the bus & stopped at the ancient temples (just 1 stop from Blue Grotto). The signage is poor here & like other tourists, we walked for 30 min without seeing anything; then retraced our steps & realised that the big sign for a restaurant was actually the road we needed to walk down for the archeological site/temples! There was a significant fee for this site - worth staying for an hour or so they said; we didn't want to miss the bus so gave it a miss. At the bus stop we saw more confused tourists & pointed them in the right direction!
So, a day full of frustration & don't think we were alone as we talked with some young women on the bus photographing the temples from a distance (from the bus!!) - they wanted to combine both attractions too but it all got too hard! Would we repeat the day, probably not...think a longer boat trip on the main harbour &/or coastline would have been more appealing. However, there's no denying that the 20 min boat trip took us into a beautiful area so that's why we rated it 4.

Great nature attraction. Windy day. No boat trip, but nice viewpoint of sea, island Philphla, coast and grotto, of course.

We arrived at the Blue Grotto via the hop on hop off buses, there are a couple cafe’s and bits and bobs around the area. The main attraction is the grotto its self which is only really visible by boat. It’s a 8 euro 20 min trip which I found very enjoyable and worth the money, the caves although not massive were impressive – however it was a bit rushed in my opinion.
