We stayed here for 2 nights during the Champions League final at a grossly inflated price you’d expect to pay in a central London hotel!
Located in the North of Moscow, close to Sheremetyevo Airport, the Olympiets Hotel was built in 1980 before the Olympic Games in Moscow and renovated in 2006, but not to a very high standard. It takes 35-40 minutes to get to the centre of Moscow by metro, once you have reached the metro, a 30 min journey from the hotel by taxi!! Although I will admit the traffic was quite heavy.Taxi to the centre of Moscow is 1 – 1 ½ hours away and a cost of 2500 + roubles. The hotel consists of three buildings all connected by a central lobby and restaurant area, There is a 24 hour bar which serves basic food. The breakfast was disgusting – I think they took advantage of the football fans, expecting us to eat rubbish. Breakfast was a sausage, Russian style, with beans, rice or pasta, an orange, a yogurt and a slice of dry bread with jam. A fruit juice in a carton and a cup of instant coffee or tea, we didn’t bother with breakfast on the second day. The beds were uncomfortable and the bed linen minimum. Shower was ok, no shelf space and the towels just big enough to wrap round your hair. The receptionists didn’t speak any English. Getting into the centre of Moscow was a nightmare, on both occasions we waited over 1 ½ hours for a taxi to take us to the metro. The only positive aspect was the 24 hour bar to celebrate United’s win.
