“A great place to escape to”
Reviewed 4 October 2012

This is an exclusive property which was not as pricey as some of the others in this category are. We travelled to this place on impulse when our trip through Arunachal Pradesh had to be abandoned because of excessive rains. The place is inside a tea estate though not part of it. The estate however, can be accessed easily. The manager and his staff arranged for a trip to a nearby Mishing village and we had dinner at the house of the village President. The dinner and the conversations we had around it were fascinating. Vegetarians however, may not enjoy the dinner as it had a lot of pork dishes and locally brewed rice wine to go with it. The food at the property was also included in the price and was wonderful. We were the only guests at that time and so though we had booked one room at the Silver Tips bungalow, we had the whole bungalow at our disposal. The covered verandah is an ideal place to just sit and watch and hear the rain. Mobile networks do not work well, there is no internet or TV in the rooms. It all adds to recreate life as it used to be in a remote tea estate 150 years ago. The Saturday market nearby was also fascinating. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms were large and cosy. Go there if you want to escape.

Room Tip: The heritage bungalow is expensive and is currently being renovated. Silver tips is a good choice es...

Determined to find somewhere different to celebrate some of our group's 60th birthdays, 19 friends and family from Australia and the UK ranging in age between 19 and 70+ met at Wild Mahseer for a magical 10 days of celebrations. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel not only like honoured guests but also friends of the family. Assam is off the usual tourist trial for Aussies and Brits so while we felt adventurous on the one hand, on the other, we were so well looked after and the accommodation and grounds were so beautiful that we felt we had arrived in paradise. The Heritage Bunglalow was spectacular, with sumptuous furnishings and books, photo albums and curiosities to ponder over when sipping on endless cups of wonderful locally grown tea. We would have spent more time relaxing but every day was a new adventure - wandering round the colourful local market, rafting down the Jia Bholori River, an early morning elephant trek in Kaziranga National Park, a visit to a tea plantation and factory, attending a service and dancing in a local monastry, a shopping trip for silks and curios in Tezpur, bird watching at dawn, visiting a local organic farm, witnessing Bihu dancing, cultural exchanges (dancing and singing) in local Mising and Nepali villages, buying wonderful fabrics woven by Mising women, and much more. Every day a beautiful breakfast, and every evening a feast when we returned from our day's exertions. An amazing experience for one and all. Thank you all at Wild Mahseer for a holiday of a lifetime

When the daily grind gets too much, head out to Wild Mahseer ... it’s a resort in the middle of nowhere in Tezpore, Assam. This resort is a must if your idea of vacation sounds like any of these:
(a) To walk with your girl down an aisle flanked by high timber trees with the moonlight seeping through the canopy. You stop, turn, and do a little dance with little amphibians from the nearby ponds as the only spectators.
(b) To sit on a veranda of a wonderfully restored English Planter's Bungalow, sipping bourbon and reading Mark Twain. The odd glance away from the books to reflect lets you soak in across acres of greenery.
(c) To drive by gorgeous mountain rivers and find your spot of solace, cast your line and pray you beat the old bearded Scotsman’s previous record !

Food and its quality..it is awesum in one word.....I wish all visit this place so near to nature and beauty....so easy to grab. I have heard the murmuring sound of the leaves and the sound of cricket after a long days...luvly..just keep it up!

We spent two days - alas too short a stay - at Wild Mahseer. Our stay was wonderful primarily because of the wonderful staff and the beautiful property! Bikram, the resident manager and Deepak took care of us as if we were their personal guests! The property is maintained beautifully and even though we visited in the off season, our bungalow was spick and span! The food was fantastic. The place is value for money and even though a long way off from Mumbai where we live, we will definitely try and make another trip to Wild Mahseer. Thank you team Wild Mahseer if any of you read this review!

Wild Mahseer is probably the best resort in North East India. This rural, idyllic, colonial style heritage collection of tea estate bungalows are perfect getaway from busy city life. The attentive staff and helpful resident manager just adds to the charm of this place. Go here to cleanse your soul and take a break from the madness. We got upgraded to the heritage bungalow which is truly out of this world. Just sit back, relax and try being one with the nature and the surroundings. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Heritage Bungalow is the best available. All other are good but heritage is definitely the best.
