This hotel is situated in the San Lameer resort which is looking tired! The hotel is simply not a 4 star hotel but is more like a 3 star hotel.

The hotel is not at all suitable for any person who battles with steps as there are many of them and although the hotel is build over 4 levels, there is no lift! The ramps for wheelchairs or step free access are very steep and provide a real challenge at the best of times.

The room was comfortable and well equipped. Our room safe would not open and was not fixed for the entire duration of our stay. There are two swimming pools at the hotel neither of which are reserved for hotel guests but are open to all who live or rent on the resort. This means the pools are crowded in peak season with a real scrabble for sun loungers first thing in the morning. The hotel should really consider reserving a pool for hotel guests and providing a pool towel service.

The food in the restaurant was good although the service was slow at times. Check your bill on departure as ours included a dinner of another guest. The beach is about 15 minutes on foot or 5 minutes by car. The beach is great but you do need to provide your own umbrella and sun loungers as in mid summer - shade is essential.

This is not a bad hotel as long as you manage your expectations and are clear about what you are getting.

While the hotel was typically Peermont and very well-kept, being in this jewel of aresort makes this such an exquisite destination to visit.
The access to all the San Lameer estate has to offer and the wonderful beach, with a tidal pool makes this resort a much sort-after experience. With the warm weather we had on this winter's weekend, the resort was being enjoyed by many fortunate patrons.

The 3 hotel rooms that I booked at a ridiculous price were so well-presented, no expense was spared, as usual.

Some areas of the hotel do seem a bit worse for wear, though, like the separate toilets.

We were welcomed by a warm and friendly reception. The staff was at all times professional, warm, friendly. We were booked in very fast and also had dinner and breakfast. The food was of high standard, also the presentation was very well. The rooms are equipped with all that you will need and the view from the room are spectacular.

They do offer a variety of activities and also have a spa. Unfortunately our stay was to short to enjoy all the activities.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a great view

I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The room was clean and had an open plan bathroom which added to the spaciousness (you would have to slide the partitions closed for privacy). The décor was modern and worked well. The balcony, although a little cramped offered an amazing view of the lake. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and their response time was good. Working the lights took a little getting used to (seriously!).

There was one thing that did reflect poorly on the hotel.
I was surprised to find that most places (leisure desk, golf cart hire, superette) closed at 4pm on a Saturday. Especially considering that check-in was at 3pm. By the time we put our bags down and got settled, we found that there was nothing left to do, we carried squash and tennis racquets but the squash courts needed an access code that we didn’t have and we needed to hire tennis balls. I thought we should have been informed of this on check in so as to better plan our afternoon.

Room Tip: Room 302 was high up with a balcony that offered a good view of the lake, it also had a mini bar fri...

i am writing this review after a year or so, but i still have fond memories of my stay in San Lameer. we had a stunning room with a beautiful scenery in the back drop. we spent hours in the river kayaking and feeding the thousands of fish that come visit the boardwalk just outside the breakfast area. the pool is clean although was not heated when i stayed.

the food was delicious- 5 star if you will call it that. the reception for payment was quick and convenient . was pleasant to see the wild life running freely around the property. plenty of antelope and mongooses typical for this region of south Africa.

the only set back's was that the restaurant stopped serving at 9pm and the bar closed at 11 on the nights i stayed. the bar was frequented by younger men which suggests it is open to the public which i dont like considering we payed a fair amount to stay their.

I am not sure why there is a hotel in a quite intensively developed upmarket golf estate. It would make sense if it offered good cuisine or a bar with a convivial atmosphere, but the Mondazur offers neither.

The evening buffet was substandard for a 4-star hotel because of the very limited selection and was poor value for money. Specifically, I didn't think much of including baked beans among a sparse salad selection.

The lunch buffet was better value, but the service was painfully slow, possibly because there only appeared to be one waiter serving the whole promenade area.

After the second night, we opted to take evening meals elsewhere.

I was at a loss to understand why we had to be moved from breakfast in the promenade area so that they could spray the area with insecticide. The job didn't take long but, for some reason, it was deemed essential to do it as guests were coming down for breakfast. It wasn't guest-centred management

The hotel's best asset is the private blue flag beach, a 50m stretch of which is designated for safe bathing and is watched over by a team of lifeguards. There is a seafood restaurant (recommended) and a bar tucked away unobtrusively in a corner of the beach. There is a pedestrian shortcut from the hotel to the beach (about 1km) but most people seem to drive.

Being shared with the golf estate, the patrolled section of the beach becomes very crowded by mid-morning in high season; being a private beach doesn't mean there are no crowds. Fortunately, there is plenty of open beach just outside this area.

For me, one of the best things about the hotel is that it was dead quiet at night; it is far enough away from sea that closing the balcony door shuts out the distant roar. There is no excuse for not getting a good night's sleep.

I also liked the patches of untouched jungle next to some of the less-travelled paths. One wonders what early settlers must have thought of such impenetrable vegetation.

Overall, the Mondazur did not live up to expectations for a Peermont group hotel (based on stays at the Metcourt and Mondior) of its grading and situated in a prime tourism area.

Room Tip: Rooms 308-317 have ramp access. Most, if not all, have balconies and are close to a rarely busy rece...

The rooms are equisite, and the location is near perfect in the San Lameer Estate, but that is where the beauty and charm ends. The Staff, in particular, the Food & Beverage staff are rude, lack training, and have no concept of how to create a memorable experience for a guest.
The Hotel gives no preference to paying Hotel residents, opening up all facilites to all Estate Residents, which, during a period of high occupancy, results in little, to no, service level being maintained.
The 40 room hotel could more than cope with a 100% double occupancy, of 80 residents at time, but lands up dealing with 200+ because it does not access control, or reserve first use of facilites to its paying guests. I will not return. The holiday felt like a bun fight to get service, space at the pool, and resturant access and service.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony in high season, as you will not have much choice to sit elsewhere due to t...
