I have loved San Lameer for many decades (gosh I'm getting old). As a youngster I remember fondly the jungle-like explorations though terra-cotta clusters of homes en route to the beach or lagoon. The hotel has changed hands many time and I have stayed in it over the years as it moved from Protea to currently the Peermont Group. The hotel remains excellent and I often take advantage of their Sunday Sleepovers which offer ridiculously cheap rates on Sunday nights. Living in Durban, it is a convenient 90 minutes away and the drive is beautiful down the coast at any time of the year.
The hotel is clean, the service attentive and the grounds and atmosphere remain top notch. There are options of having spa treatments on the property and there is a restaurant but to be honest meal options elsewhere in the area are probably a better bet both in price and quality of food. Lunch at MacBanana about 10 minutes further south is an excellent option.
All in all, though San Lameer remains the jewel of the South Coast.

My young family of three little girls and my husband and I spent a few days last week at the hotel. What a wonderful setting. The staff, the hotel room, the breakfast and dinner, the swimming pool, the spa, the beach, the baby sitter, were awesome. Compliments to the hotel chef, the food was delicious. I would certainly recommend this fantastic hotel to everyone.

Room Tip: our room faced the swimming pool and the river....was amazing a view

I stayed in a villa in San Lameer during the December holidays but visited the Hotel almost every day to leisure and laze at the swimming pool when wind and weather did not allow for pleasant beach visits. The restaurant menu and pricing (for the verandah) is really very friendly for the budget and the bar and lunch services are extended to the guests at the swimming pools.
I did not enjoy the buffet breakfast though as the variety and quality do not compare well with other hotels' buffet breakfast for the same price.
The hotel is disabled-friendly so a person in a wheel chair will be able to access the rooms and leisure areas.

The hotels setting is beautiful, but the service was not great. On Christmas Eve there was no Sauvingnon Blanc available in the restaurant and earlier in the afternoon they had "run out" of cappuccino cups. Turns out they only have 2 in the whole hotel according the waiter. We stayed in one of the villas for 7 nights and was often at the hotel in the public areas and not once during a 7 night stay did we meet a manager
