“Friendly, Relaxing B+B on beautiful island”

We were only spending one night on the island, and spend a while looking for a reasonably placed inn. The States Inn and Ranch was, compared to the other lodging options, an enormous bargain. It does require a car to get to. We arrived and the host was extremely friendly. There are a couple nice public rooms in the middle of the house, and we were given carrots to feed the Llamas. Surprisingly fun! I can not explain why. We then bought some homemade ice cream from the country store, also on the farm. The room was small, but the location was beautiful - even walking around the farm was enjoyable. We really wish we had planned a couple days to relax here.

I stayed with a friend for one night at the States Inn & Ranch and appreciated our small, but clean, room on the second floor and my comfortable bed. The huge breakfast was tasty and filling. I found it fun to interact with the resident alpacas at the ranch and liked having access to a free computer on the main floor.

Our minuscule bathroom, however, was uncomfortable and the smell of the water bothered me, especially while taking a shower. If staying for more than one night, you should consider requesting a room with a good-sized bathroom.

We appreciate your feedback. And we agree! Unfortunately we lease the physical property, and the room layout is out of our control. We have had this conversation with the landlord (and showed him reviews like this) many times. The building is over 100 years old, was last remodeled 20 years ago. There is little that can be done without major construction. He is not willing to do so, so all we can do is offer this room at a price that is well below the average on the island for a king room room.

We can also make the food and the rest of the inn as delightful and pleasant as possible. Thank you for staying with us, and again we appreciate your taking the time to comment upon your stay. We will present your review to the landlord.

This B &B is outside of town of Friday Harbor so car is recommended, though a bus into town is available . Wonderful full breakfasts each morning. Very family friendly- kids of all ages can feed the llamas, collect fresh eggs from the chickens on this working farm.Rooms are fine, though noise of farm equipment in the afternoon might disturb your afternoon nap! Reasonable rates considering great breakfast!

My husband and I stayed at States Inn for 2 days. One more day would have been better. It is a delightful Inn. Delicious breakfasts, friendly people. Rooms are not large but there are very nice common areas. There was a fireplace in our room, tho it probably was not functioning - Comfy bed. We were in the Rhode Island room which has a bathroom outside of the bedroom - immediately next door in the hall. Robes and a key were provided. The hosts stock cut -up carrots for the guests to feed the alpacas. They also have piglets and chickens. There is a guest computer in the common area.
The Inn is about 7 miles from town so no walking to dinner.
You should go out to Lime Kiln State Park while you are here. A lovely lighthouse is there and we saw several Orca from the shore. There is a lavendar farm on the island, Pelindaba. A must stop if you like lavendar. We went on one of the whale watching trips and saw several Orca and some sea lions and lots of rhinocerous auklets . If you are history buffs, there is the British Camp and the American camp from back when the area was contested. Cattle Point was a pretty spot. We found sea anemone and mussels in tide pools. I sat on the rocks and watched an eagle create havoc in a gull colony by swooping in and stealing his dinner. While semi-lost on a wrong turn, a helpful local told us that someone on the kept a camel but we did not have time to seek him out.
We enjoyed the States Inn and the island very much.

Nice and friendly place, which makes you feel at home, and the breakfast is a true culinary experience! Only downside is the fact that the water in the tap and shower smells extremely bad, but free bottled water is available at the B&B.

The hosts were very accommodating. Wonderful breakfasts..certainly didn't leave the table hungry. The bed was very comfottable. Enough common space and outside areas to mingle with other guests or find a place to be alone. The farm animals provided some additional attractions... friendly alpacas.

The setting of this B&B on a farm is wonderful. The country store and specialty food items a treat. The hosts and the information they shared about the food and animals was very worthwhile. My only complaint is that the house needs updating - decor and furnishings need an overhaul. I don't mean it needs a costly remodel; it just is tired looking and lacks style. If they got rid of the 1980's furnishings and carpet on the wall (?) the place would appeal to a wider range of clientele.
