The hotel is a former boarding school and this gives Nupur its special and unique character.
For somebody who expects a luxury and modern accomodation I would not recommend the Hotel Nupur. But for everybody who likes to explore some special places with unique atmosphere Nupur is a great place to be!
The long corridors are dominated by pictures from the former students and professors, dating back to 1931! The big common room has a ping-pong table for everybody's use. In the basement you can play billiard and the old school next door (that also belongs to the hotel) offers a sports hall where you can play basketball, climb on the bars at the walls, or do lots of other sports and fun stuff. Next to the hotel there is a botanic garden that you can also explore.
The rooms are functional and clean. In the corridor there is a well equipped kitchen with fridge and freezer that can be used by the guests. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi and some computers with internet access. The two hotel owners are easy going, always good for some tales about Iceland or some insider activity recommendations and satisfied every wish that we had.
We did self-catering so I cannot say something about the breakfast or dinner quality. But there was always fresh coffee and a varied selection of teas available.
The area and nature around is also nice to explore. And it is an excellent location to start your day trips in the Westfjords. What you have to know is that the hotel is approx. 35 km away from Isafjördur where you can find the next Supermarket "Bonus" and there are no public transports. So better make sure you have a car available.
I would definitely come back for some nights on my next trip to Iceland.
