Do you love pristine nature? Do you believe in eco-friendly lodging? If yes, then Finca del Sol is the perfect base for exploring Ometepe.

My wife and I spent 4 nights in the cabana "La Luna" at Finca del Sol. We barely finished half of what we had planned for Ometepe and can hardly wait to go back. Kayaking on Lake Cocibolca and the Istiam River was otherwordly: 2 volcanoes in sight, caimans, birds, lush forest, barely any tourists. Ojo de Agua offers pleasant swimming in clear, clean, warm, sweet water. Finca Magdalena and Totoco are great for having coffee & food while enjoying the views of Volcan Concepcion. We allowed ourselves to be lazy and missed on a few things such as climbing volcano Maderas and horseback riding. There's so much one can do on horses: ride around the Maderas island, explore a big waterfall, go the the viewpoint/mirador.

La Finca del Sol is the fruit of hard work and great vision from the owners Sheri and Cristiano. The cabins are far enough from each other and from the kitchen/reception. My wife and I have never felt so in touch with nature save for camping. There are no fans, A/C or refrigerator noises. At night, one can only hear the wind & crickets (and tropical sheep occasionally). Compost toilets, solar power for electricity and solar water hating; how much better can it get than this? The finca attracts experienced travelers with stories to tell; do not miss the breakfast & socializing.

Finca del Sol is like a fairy tale. Just let your imagination run with that and you may get a closer glimpse to what it is truly like than whatever I can write.

The cabins are gorgeous and very clean. The composting toilet takes a little getting used to but it's not a big deal. We stayed in the blue cabin (La Luna) and spent evenings sitting on the lawn chairs sipping rum and overlooking the island, Volcan Concepcion ever impressive in the distance.

Christiano and Sheri were wonderful. We had wonderful breakfast every morning in their beautiful garden. And I do mean beautiful, it is truly out of this world. It is about a 400m hike to get up there but it's really cool. They also have tons of movies and internet access as well.

The hike up Volcan Maderas leaves right from your cabin. Sheri and Christiano make a great lunch if you want to go. Also the Ojo de Agua is not far if you want to rent a bike and go for a cruise.

Overall, this place is wonderful if you are looking for beauty and tranquility. It is perfect for couples looking to get away together.

It is not however, a place for someone looking for lots of people or partying.

Room Tip: The La Luna cabin is a little further up the hill and has a slightly better view than the yellow cab...

This place is unique!

Set in a lush environment on the island of Ometepe, everything is about calm and tranquillity.
The place is ecology-minded in everything. Do not expect too much comfort (nature is all around!), but it is still above expectations on many aspects. Beds are comfortable.

The view from the blue cabin is really precious, right in front of the volcano.

Christiano and Sheery are very welcoming and will help for organisation matters, at a price though.

Highly recommended place!

We discovered Finca del Sol through recommedations and good reviews on Trip Advisor. We started emailing Sheri and Cristiano and they were incredibly helpful and made us feel very excited to arrive. They even organised for somebody to pick us up from Managua airport at very short notice and for Eddy (you have to ask for Eddy - he is amazing!!) to pick us up from the ferry once we reached the island. These beautiful homes are individually and thoughtfully constructed with the environment in mind. We loved living within nature and enjoyed sleeping with the noise of rustling sheep and nesting birds right outside your window. My mum even embraced the composting toilet and showers with tiny frogs!! The view from your bed is breathtaking and the walk to breakfast so unique - we still talk about it now! Sheri's pancakes and Cristiano's homemade bread are still longed for in our house. My parents are westernised 50 year olds and 4* addicts, however during our travels around Central America, Finca del Sol and Omtepe Island was their piece of utopia.

PS - don't forget to ask Sheri about the canoeing - we were one of the only people in a long time to see a Cayman!!!!

Stay here. Finca Del Sol is very comfortable, well located, and a good value. The owners are incredibly nice, cook a great breakfast in the morning, and will literally do anything to help you enjoy Ometepe. I travel a lot and this is the first review I have ever written, and I am doing it because was so impressed and happy with staying at Finca del Sol.

It's taken a while to write this review, which I can only apologise for, as our stay at Finca Del Sol was fantastic. An unusual place, very eco-friendly, on a beautiful and (as yet) relatively undeveloped island in wonderful Nicaragua. Sheri and Christiano were great hosts, friendly, fun and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and definitely eco-friendly. The island is wonderful. We wished we could have stayed longer.

i stayed on ometepe for two nights and was very happy to have found finca del sol. i agree with previous reviewers that staying on ometepe is roughing it by definition, but if you stay at finca del sol, it'll be as comfortable as possible. sheri and cristiano are fantastic hosts, not intrusive at all but always willing to provide advice and assistance. sheri helped me with my transfer from granada (taxi to san jorge, ferry to moyogalpa, then taxi from moyogalpa to finca del sol) and everything went off without a hitch. true, it's probably cheaper to use buses rather than taxis, but why not splurge a little?

i stayed in the yellow cabin which was comfortable. i never had any issues with the electricity going out. i did see some little critters in my cabin but they stayed far away from me and never bothered me. sheri's breakfasts are good (although not large) and the coffee is roasted by cristiano.

my big activity on ometepe was to walk to ojo de aquas and back. sheri had a huge list of other things to do, but relaxing at finca del sol was definitely great. i'd highly recommend staying here.
