“Great views close to small town”
Reviewed 27 January 2012

We stayed the yellow cabin. These cabins are very well built and you can tell the owners have put there hearts into this finca

Breakfast was good

Incredable views of both volcanoes!!!

Walking distance to several restaurants. Had brick oven pizza deliverd one night. Crazy this girl delivered our pizza in the dark thru the jungle and it was deliverd hot

Our only complaint we didn't share and maybe should have was that the sheets or mattress and pillows smelled musty. We figure it was because of the warm weather and or solor power maybe no dryer. We used our clean beach towels to sleep on

Hello

Thank you the kind comments on our breakfasts and fabulous views! Yes we poured our hearts and souls into the making and maintaining of Finca del Sol each and everyday to ensure that guest have a pleasant and enjoyable time in Ometepe. It is unfortunate that you did not mention that your sheets or mattress and pillows smelled musty, as we would have been more than happy to change them for another set, where you would have felt more comfortable.

The mattress and pillows are periodically dried in the sun, and all outfitted with cover protectors on them – to ensure that they do not get humid.
When it rains the humidity can get into the sheets and towels. As it has been an unusually rainy dry season, it would not surprise me if this is what happened.

We choose to air dry our sheets and towels as we are running 100% on solar power and believe it to be a more ecologically sound practice.

Thank you for staying with us & we invite you back to enjoy the amazing views another time.

Kindest regards, Sheri & Cristiano

Two families (4 adults, 5 teens) spent 2 nights at Finca Del Sol renting all three cabins. The experience was awesome. Nice location central to points of interest, lodgings were spotless and comfortable and meals were delicious. Sherri and Cristiano were very pleasant and organized. Would highly recommend Finca Del Sol!

It is a rare thing to go to a place and have the pictures you see on the Internet actually come to life as you open the door to your cabin. As you drive up the rustic driveway you first come to a little yellow cabin that reminds you of Hanzel and Gretel. A field of sheep follow along with a quaint blue cabin. A short walk down a stone path leads you to reception and where breakfast is served.
What you might not easily recognize is that your sleeping beneath a volcano. But no worries it hasn't erupted in hundreds of years.
Ometepe is not a five star resort by any means but Sheri and Christanoes make the stay enjoyable and comfortable.

Room Tip: Choose the bamboo room. It is the largest cabin and the nicest balcony. The blue cabin has the nices...

Our family of five adults spent 6 nights at Finca del Sol, renting all three cabanas. Highly recommended! The cabins are beautifully designed and crafted, spotless, spacious and comfortable. Solar never failed to provide evening electricity and composting toilets were very user-friendly. Bamboo Lodge -- the largest -- has a big deck where the whole family could hang out and read, play games, watch the sunset, etc. All cabins have small decks, hammocks, great views of Volcan Conception. Hosts Sheri and Cristiano were delightful and helpful in arranging all our various outings (guides for hikes, horses, kayaks; taxis, etc.) Breakfasts were very good -- everything fresh and local and much of it homemade or homegrown. We were offered a dinner on our last night, which was also delicious.
We took advantage of some serious kick-back time on Ometepe -- things are very spread out and not that easy to get to. But also enjoyed several wonderful outings. Loved Ojo de Agua -- a large cool-water mineral pool nestled in the jungle! Don't miss it. Some of us rented motorbikes for a day's spin around the northern island (where the roads are more passable). Another enjoyed horseback ride to the waterfall. Kayaking in the Rio was a mixed bag...very beautiful and peaceful, but the time spent in the river/swamp itself was just too short (one hour) for the cost. The half-way hike up Volcan Maderas was lovely. Also enjoyed just walking the roads, seeing numerous small villages and talking to the always-friendly islanders. Ometepe is definitely off-the-beaten-track -- not alot of tourist infrastructure -- that's part of its charm.

We stayed 4 nights in the blue cabin. Everything was clean, well designed and well built, especially considering that Sheri and Christiano and a few others built the cabins by hand. We were amazed that if you turned on the light and closed the door to the bathroom at night, no light leaked into the bedroom -- certainly not the case in our ol' house! Just loved sitting out front of the cabin, watching the sheep, the birds, the clouds on the volcano, etc, without a worry. Didn't even watch any movies since we so appreciated hearing just nature around us.

Sheri and Christiano were helpful, gracious hosts. No question seemed bothersome, even though I know they must have answered the same q a million times before. All emails were answered promptly and all logistics went smoothly. (And yes, we enjoyed Eddy's taxi service as well; nice local guy and interesting info provided.) They gave us a nice tour of their place -- all the fruit trees and the veggie garden -- and it was clear how much of themselves is in every square inch of the site.

Breakfasts were delicious. Not huge, but a welcome change from the rice and bean dishes more typical for breakfast. And what a lovely view from the breakfast table!

Also many thanks to Sheri for taking such good care of our friend who had a little belly trouble during our stay. Sheri prepared a special meal for her, including rehydrating liquid, chamomile tea, etc., which was really beyond the normal guesthouse experience and very kind.

Mostly, we took things easy on Ometepe. Easy to fall into the quieter life. A hike to Ojo de Agua, walks to Santo Domingo and elsewhere for lunch, etc. Some of us took the hike up Maderas; I didn't but was very comfortable wandering around on my own. Even had a baby pig snorfel at my feet at a local soda! Overall, everyone was very nice and the island has a great feel that's hard to describe in addition to being very beautiful.

And even though making reservations for pizza seemed very odd to this American, pizza night at the neighboring hostel is quite an interesting experience and the pizza, made in an outdoor wood oven, was very good. Hippie clothes optional ;-)

I would highly recommend Finca del Sol to anyone headed to Ometepe (unless they absolutely need to have a "regular" toilet in which case they should choose a different place)

We stayed one night at Finca Del Sol and booked it primarily from all the great reviews on here. Note that Ometepe is 'roughing' it since there are no major hotels, and from my research most places were either hostels or cabinas on a farm. Although Ometepe is great for those seeking the great outdoors - hiking, kayaking, swimming etc, it's also a wonderful place to explore on your own, check out the various villages and just relax.

My husband and I had rented a car, though you don't need this on the island as taxis can be arranged, but we preferred it since we could drive around wherever and whenever we wanted. We found Finca Del Sol quite easily (Sheri had sent great instructions beforehand). I do recommend staying outside of Moyogalpa (the main town) as you get a better feel of what it's like living on the island.

We had an amazing night sleep, great view of the volcano and a lovely breakfast made from home-grown ingredients. They have sheep and fruit trees on the property. It's definitely a labor of love that Sheri and Christiano have built for themselves, you can see the hard work and commitment they put in to building a home and lodging on the farm.

For us since we didn't hike the volcano, one night seemed like enough. We got in early morning and left before noon the next day. We visited Ojo de Agua, El Porvenir, Punta Jesus Maria and drove through a bunch of villages.

Room Tip: All three cabins have a view of the volcano. The property is set back from a quiet road so noise is...

The cabana we stayed in was lovely. Really spacious, bed v comfortable, mozzie net, everything natural - no need for fan there was lovely fresh breeze through the windows. Bathroom perfect, compost loo, shower fine - there are a couple of cabanas which may have warm water but we didnt have one! Spotless and clean couldn’t fault it! Cristiano was really enthuasiastic, arranged trek up maderas. Breakfast was not included in the price, extra $5 and it was nice (lovely homemade bread and coffee) but we felt that maybe for demanding trek it was not quite sufficient for us. Having said that, he made us a really good packed lunch which helped keep us going. Overall really nice stay, would loved to have spent another night but they were full- which confirms how good it is!
