In early August I rented a caravan at the Shell Bay Caravan Park near Elie. My booking was made in July and I think I got lucky with a cancellation as the price was around half what I expected it to be. One of those too good to be true moments.
The Shell Bay site is a 10minute drive from the lovely resort of Elie and a 20minute drive from the nearest town (Leven) with amenities like supermarkets and (indoor) swimming pool. The site is located right on the beach and this meant our caravan was only 200yds from the sea, which is the perfect recipe for a good holiday with kids even if you don't get sunshine every day.
My three kids and I stayed in a 2-bedroom "heritage" caravan which is a brand new model, well kitted out with a spacious kitchen, 2 bathrooms, small twin bedroom and generous double bedroom. There is a small flat-screen TV with freeview for those days when the rain is battering down on the roof.
The site has a small but well-stocked shop, a small arcade area, restaurant, bar and take-away. There is entertainment each night in the summer starting off with bingo.
We stayed for six nights. We had 2 days sunshine, 2 days rain and 2 days mixed weather. My kids' verdict: "book this again next year, Dad".
