First, my conflicts of interest: (a) I knew the owner, Tricia Thompson, in Wellington a couple of decades ago; (b) In 2013, when visiting Rarotonga, we helped a friend, who was minding the place for Tricia, clean one of the bungalows. It was the 'helping out' experience in 2013 that decided us to book a bungalow for June 2014. Best decision we could have made. The bungalows are very well designed, have everything one needs, are sparkling clean, quiet (back from the road), close to a shop and a place to eat, not too far from town, not too far from our favourite Rarotongan bar (Shipwreck), and only 100 metres walk or so from a nice beach an excellent swimming/snorkelling. Throw in Rarotonga's great bus service and Tricia Thompson's wonderful hospitality and one just can't go wrong. No wonder the bungalows are often booked out. I am reluctant to recommend Aroa Kainga only because I know we will want to stay there again, and again, and it will be booked out. PS Wifi a bit expensive.

Room Tip: Either bungalow would be excellent, but don't overcrowd them. Twi is an ideal number (send the k...

Just love this place and it is two minutes walk from the best snorkelling in Rarotonga. Trish the owner is simply fantastic and everything is in the bungalow that you need for a great stay and we were there 16 nights. Lorraine, Trish's minder is brilliant as well and anything you need to know about attractions, local shopping and restaurants these two are the experts. The bungalows have BBQs so outdoor cooking and entertaining are possible on your own private decking. There is nothing they have not thought of and this is a favourite holiday destination for us and we will be back again as soon as we can. Thanks to you both again.

This was a great place to stay in Rarotonga. The location is just inland from the best snorkel beach on the island. The bungalow was lovely--nicely decorated, very clean, well maintained, and well equipped. Tricia was so very helpful and gracious, giving us great suggestions for things to do and places to eat and giving us insight on island life. There is no AC, so pretty uncomfortable in summer months, but fine for most of the year.

Aroa Kainga Bungalows are tucked down a quiet lane, about a 2 minute walk to a marine reserve. They were a great place to base our holiday from as we were able to easily access the beach, bus and walks on the "back road". The bungalows are set in a lovely tropical garden and a special treat for us was to pick the lovely passionfruit, fresh from the vines each day. The bungalows are well furnished and the owner has gone to a lot of effort to provide everything you will need for your stay - reef shoes, snorkels, bbq, insect coils, deck loungers, all kitchen equipment, linen etc etc. There is even a safe for your valuables. A guest laundry is also available near the main house. Our host/s were very obliging and helpful, yet were unobtrusive. Even though this was a return trip to Raro, we still managed to find plenty to do. It was lovely to be able to get out and explore for a couple of hours and then return to relax in our quiet bungalow.

We have recently returned from a 9 night stay at the wonderful Aroa Kianga bungalows. I can echo all the previous positive reviews but wanted to add that Lorraine went above and beyond in taking time with us to point out great places on Rarotonga and share her general knowledge. Many thanks Lorraine and also to Trish who sorted out a booking muddle that could have been disasterous but was gracefully explained and resolved. Also in relation to a previous review - the only dogs we came across were friendly, the roosters were doing what roosters do and the occasional fire was not terribly noticeable. We would love to return in the not too distant future and stay for a fortnight next time. Highly recommended!

An amazing location 2 minute walk to the beach which is part of a marine reserve so excellent snorkeling. We booked both bungalows and had a wonderful holiday with our family. Lorraine was there to meet us and gave us lots of information about places to go, bus timetables and good places for dinner.
Could not recommend highly enough. Will hopefully return at some stage for another relaxing holiday.

Aroa Kainga exceeded my expectations! I had the most wonderful holiday! I was traveling solo, and was looking for a good central location at a decent price. The bungalow was perfectly equipped with everything you could need. Very comfortable, cozy and well laid out. The place was VERY clean and tidy and the shower was excellent. The fresh fruit and simple breakfast food was perfect for waking up on the first morning. The location is great, close to the beach, but private and secluded from the road. I rented a scooter which was a great way to get around the island, the bus was easy to use as well. Lorraine was extremely helpful, kind and generous. A VERY happy stay, I genuinely did not want to leave!
I stayed my last night at the Rarotongan resort and was FAR MORE impressed with Aroa Kainga than any part of my stay at the resort which was extremely disappointing. Do yourself a favor and book a bungalow at Aroa Kainga! You can walk to the resort in less than 10 minutes if you want to have a drink at the bar or sit on the beach. Aroa Kainga is a fantastic place!!! Thank you Tricia and Lorraine for everything! I'll be back! :)
