“Lovely bungalow”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2010

We stayed at one of the bungalows for 12 nights and absolutely loved it. Very clean and quiet, only moments from the beach. Great value for money.

The bungalow we had was perfect for us. Quiet location, very relaxing, and Tricia was willing to help us with anything we needed. Very clean, nice gardens, spacious bathroom, fully equipped kitchen. A friendly cat too. We hated to leave.

It is in a great location, 2 mins from a great snorkelling spot(Rarotongan Beach Resort and Spa) and as it is off the main road it is pretty quite. It is a self contained unit, with a good size kitchen, with a great assortment of essential cooking items. The bathroom was clean as was the whole place. It was a very neat place. On arrival we had a bowl of fruit (bananas, passionfruit, oranges), bread, condiments, milk and juice which was a lovely touch and much appreciated. We also had a phone, so were able to make local phone calls which was extremly helpful as both our mobiles did not work in the Cook Islands. We had our own resident cat named Pumpkin who was very cute. The owner was overseas while we were there, however, we were well looked after by her friend. Would stay here again without doubt.

We stayed here after our wedding on Raro, for our honeymoon. What a charming place! It has a full kitchen, little living room, separate bedroom area, ceiling fans, and is fairly private. Tricia was really great - even driving us to the hospital and waiting around while my hubby had a thing on his foot taken care of.

It's off the main road, which is nice too. It's an easy 5 min. walk to a beautiful beach - we went there for nearly every sunset. The property is lush and beautiful. We even picked a huge avocado that went in our salad. One of my favorite things was riding our bikes up to the back road - no traffic, just friendly people and breathtaking views of the mountains and surrounding scenery. The only negative I could say would be that the mosquitoes kept me off the lanai deck out back, and the shower is a little flimsy.

All in all a great value - I'd highly recommend it!

The Aroa Kainga has 2 bungalows that are a short walk from the main road, which is just next to the beach. Consider it a warm-up before you go for a swim, snorkel (you don't have to swim that far) or watch the sunset (sunrise) like you owned beach. We wanted a place where we could move about like we were at home.

Trisha, our host, provides a short write-up of the nearby amenities and you do find them. A mini-grocery, car/pushbike/scooter rental, dive center, and bus stops among other things (these are what became our necessities).

We arrived in the evening - airport transfers arranged. It rained all day from the morning after, which fit our personal itinerary really well (Day 1: be lazy, do nothing but eat & relax). So we assured Trisha, our host, that she didn't need to apologize for the weather - you get a landphone so you can chitchat like that and follow-up on all your bookings. Armed with a few groceries staying in was great - the kitchen is well-equipped, Trisha had milk, bread & jams in the fridge and a bowl of fruits on the table. Who knew we'd ask for duvets while staying on a tropical island! We often didn't need to use the ceiling fans. There is water heater for the shower. The glass windows and doors are lightly tinted and screened to keep out mosquitos.

The rain has stopped and we headed to the nearby Rarotongan where we booked our "island night" (dinner & show) for the evening; it's also a venue for fine dining/buffet/bar if you felt like it. Our first view of the cook islands was a dusk of pink and blue, calm low waters and a stretch of beaches that we couldn't wait to see it in bright sunshine the next day. It was better than we imagined! I hope our amateur photos do justice to these exclaims. You'll be at peace snorkeling because the reefs around the island block out the sharks. The current can get strong on a high tide so watch out for that. What's noticeable is that while you need sunblock and sunglasses for the glaring sun the breeze is cool.

We hope to be back again someday, and that Trisha's bungalows are available.

This was our second trip to Rarotonga, and our second stay at Aroa Kainga. Transfers to and from the airport were arranged for us, we were supplied with milk and bread etc. for breakfast, so had nothing to do our first day but relax. Aroa Kainga is set in lovely gardens back from the main road, so is safe and quiet. The walk to the beach takes about two minutes, unless you stop to talk to the neighbours, but if you continue along the road to the Rarotongan Resort, the beach and snorkelling are excellent. We would highly recommend this as a place to stay.

Aroa Kainga is about 2 minutes walking distance from one of the most fantastic snorkeling spot in Aroa Beach. We couldn't get enough of the snorkeling.. I didn't know how to swim so couldn't really go far. I didn't expect i'd see much in shallow waters but i was in for a wonderful surprise! The fish were everywhere.. all i had to do was go where the rocks were and you would be rewarded with such an amazing display of dancing colors. It was a bright sunny day and you can see them so clearly.

We went to a nearby resort to see if they had a better sights but was disappointed. There were not as much variety of fish in front of the resort and since there's not much rocks on their side.. you wont as much variety of fish. In the end, we went back to 'our' spot across the road from Aroa kainga.

We stayed in a bungalow unit - clean, nice and decent size. It had a nice deck and a big size bathroom. There's 1 queen bed and the sofa converts to another queen size. Our host, Tricia, is wonderful and always ready to help us with whatever we need. The bus stop is about 3 minutes away and goes by every hour.

There's a small convenience store 5 minutes away, the resort hotel is 10 minutes away .. you can buy a card for access to wireless internet there and use it in their cafe.

If you're looking for affordable rates and fantastic snorkeling location, this is a rare find.
