“A room with a view”
Reviewed 2 November 2013

We had 4 nights and ours was a villa (apartment type) right on the beach which was great. The beds were very hard (which was our only complaint). Service good, rooms very tidy and clean and fresh looking. balcony was great to sit out at night and during the day. We went to the Island night which we enjoyed, food great variety. Breakfast came with our package and was good basic or you could up grade for a price. Resort very well kept. Our stay was great.

We appreciate your awesome review. Our beachfront villas are very spacious and self contained that is your home away from home, with a great view of the lagoon and sunsets. Our Island night is famous for our show and large variety of food and desserts. Wedo hope to see you again and look forward to welcoming you back to our tropical paradise in the near future.

If you can get a deal, it's great value. We got a beachfront upgrade so we were happy, in the newer building with a spa. Really close to waters edge, was impressed, better than I thought it would be.

Some other buildings need a paint, and some of the staff act like you're an inconvenience (this is characteristic of many other places in raro though), but altogether would recommend, and would stay again:)

We thank you for posting your review and expressed how much you enjoyed your beachfront deluxe room, with the lovely view from your balcony when the sun is setting and the lagoon just a few steps from your door. We have packages that suit all budgets and we are happy to have assisted with an upgrade when available. Our staff are generally friendly and attentive, and we will make mention of this to our Management Team. We would like to get this right and will discuss this matter as a team and work on our island hospitality we are well known for.
We do hope you return and look forward to welcoming you back.

Overall our stay was average.
Garden room - quite run down but everything works. Nice to have chicken running around in the garden. The bar fridge was supported by a few rocks underneath to make it steady. Didn't expect much from the room anyway so we weren't that disappointed.
We were in the 900 block and the stench from the sewers between the reception and our block was quite bad.
Room service - overall fine. However 1 day we didn't have towels and it took 45 mins for someone to bring them down after calling the reception. Another day we got towels with some stains. The house keeping ladies weren't that pleasant. They weren't taught to at least say good morning or kia orana to guests. At least they serviced the room everyday which was good.
Food - The Island Night buffet was great. Nice deserts too.
Continental breakfast is adequate.
However, the restaurant food isn't that nice. I had a parrot fish filet once and it was quite mediocre and didn't feel like it was good value. We had a couple of other dishes too and weren't impressed.
Restaurant waitresses - were overall professional and friendly except for maybe one or two.
The beach - I found to be the best for snorkelling after trying a number of places around the island. When Muri is windy and cold, this beach can still be nice. Lots of fish too.
Staff - the staff at the reception gave the impression that we were a burden. They weren't friendly and never greeted when you met them. The porters on the other hand were excellent and they provided a commendable service.
Swimming pool - didn't get a chance to try out because it's full of little kids most of the time with their parents.
Normally the hotel guests receive a 10% discount for the Island Night but we weren't offered this because apparently you are not a real guest if you have booked through Expedia! Really?

Overall, we had an average 2.5 star experience. Would we stay here again? Definitely not as a couple; however, if we have kids, perhaps because they've got a heap of activities to keep the kids occupied.

Room Tip: Beachfront rooms have a nice view

We thank you for posting your comments and appreciate your feedback. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your snorkeling in the lagoon, that is a few steps to the waters edge from all our rooms. The hotel is very family friendly, and we have organised cultural activities for adults and a kids club onsite that caters to children with all sorts of fun cultural activities. When the wind is blowing we do tend to get a little stench from the septic and do try our best to try and neutralise the smell. Some of our staff do spoil it for some of our other staff that are great at what they do, we will discuss this with our Managers to keep up our island hospitality and we do apologize if we didnt get it right this time. We do hope in the near future to see you come back to our shores and visit us again with your family.

We went to Rarotonga for a friends wedding which was located on the western end so we stayed here to be close. Good points- snorkeling out in front was good with lots of colourful fish. Breakfast was reasonable with lots of fruit which suits us and the Beachfront units are definitely worth the extra money with nice balconies and great view of sunsets at night. This is a very busy resort so if you want smaller crowds suggest look elsewhere. Also the costs are close to 4-5 star resorts but you are only getting 2 star value. Would suggest the separate villas that are self contained for families would be great and there is plenty of things for the children to do. Thought the pool was very average and did not even have one swim in it and swum in the sea most days. Room was good and cleaning and extra towels supplied was appreciated.
Enjoyed the island night and the food supplied with this was plentiful. Try and get a 2 for one deal for it when you book as it is $65/person otherwise. So enjoyed our stay but would we stay here again- probably not, would look for something a bit special and maybe smaller and a bit quieter.

Room Tip: If you are staying here as a couple definitely worth extra money for the seaview beachfront units, b...

This was our first time in Rarotonga and the Edgewater was recommended. The rooms were spacious, clean and serviced every day. We had our own outdoor area with table and chairs. Breakfast was continental with nothing cooked available but that was how we like it. The paw paw was the best I've ever tasted. There were lots of activities planned each day and led by the hotel staff - how to dance like a local, how to tie a sarong, fish feeding on the edge of the lagoon, how to make ika mata, the local fish dish and more. Snorkelling on the reef in front of the hotel was safe with lots of coral and tropical fish. Snorkelling equipment and towels can be borrowed, free of charge, from the activities hut. Don't leave any food out in the room or the ants will find it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the beach.

Was booked in for a week, had to figure out where the room was. Staff had expressions that would make a cadaver seem excited. Stayed one night, the room was overpriced and 2 star quality. Asking 270 per night for a room you would expect to pay 50 for in NZ. On top of that the 3rd floor room was over the pool, so had screaming kids until dark and then drunken adults throwing each other in until the wee hours. And the bed springs were like large rocks boring holes through my shoulder blades. My wife slept on the single. I would have chosen the floor but there was not even a mat on the bare tiles.
Checked out in the morning, didn't even get asked why. The staff were apathetic and didn't seem to care why we were leaving so soon. The rooms (that i saw) were tired and dated and the whole place needs a refurb. Do yourself a favour and stay somewhere else. There are some other wonderful places to stay.

We thank Raoul B for taking the time to post your review on your recent stay with us here at The Edgewater Resort & Spa. We are an accommodation provider that caters to all budgets, and if we could of accommodated you in anyway possible including location of the room we would of been sure to move you to a more quiet location, if we were made aware of the noise you endured while staying in our lagoon view room. We also have requests in regards to beds and without any hesitation would of changed your bedding to a more fitting bed to your requirements. We appreciate all feedback and take it all very seriously, as this allows us to improve in any areas which may not be up to the excellent standard we strive for. In this case we did not get it right and do apologize.

This was our second time at the Edgewater. We chose to come back because on our last visit three years ago our daughter then aged 10 was so well entertained what with all the activities like sarong tying, coconut bashing, ukelele playing that we had the best time. She was still keen this time and enjoyed it just as much. I must admit I did hanker after something a little more quiet (it was the school holidays) but all in all the Edgewater is great value for money for families.
The food is very everage, but we did eat there a lot as it was so easy and we werent being very adventurous. The Island night is fun, Im sure its the same as any other Island night on the island.
The room was a garden view room for three, clean, roomy enough with very hard working ladies who cleaned and always have a smile.
I did treat myself to a facial in the spa, but was disappointed. It felt very much like a conveyer belt between wedding bookings. Ive had better!
But overall we were happy. Cant wait for holidays without children somewhere a bit more special though.
