“Island Night”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

We went back to the Edgewater for Island Night during this holiday and had another fantastic night. The food was amazing and so good to be able to try the local foods. Show was fantastic and we had a great table up the front. Loved the cute little island girls who were learning the dances etc.

We (2 adults, 1 toddler, 1 baby) loved Edgewater so much on our last visit, we really couldn't justify going somewhere else - the familiarity with all the friendly staff, the fun Kid's Club and AMAZING food (especially on Island Nights) was too much to pass on.

We stayed for 2+ weeks and had such a great time, this time exploring the island with the guidance from Management on where to visit and other 'non-touristy' ideas which was great.

Accommodation could not be faulted, housekeeping very friendly and trustworthy. We were closer to the beach this time which was great for the kids - able to go crab hunting on the beach at dusk before dinner. So many great times and even though we thought maybe we wouldn't visit Raro again (to try and explore other countries), we actually miss the place, and Edgewater is part of that memorable experience too!

Highly recommended (not just for families, as a couple, we could have really soaked up the massages and cocktails too!) and appreciate the friendly & helpful staff who really became our family after our extended stay. Hopefully see you all again one day!

Edgewater was in a beautiful location but the room was tired and the box style air con was so loud, rattling the hole wall. We arrived at around 1am and there was no access to food or drink, no mini bar, not even some biscuits to have with coffee or tea. The drink machine was not working in the foyer either. When you know people are arriving at that time there should be access to something to eat and drink. The restaurant had good food and the service was also excellent. The also stuffed up our transfer to the airport for out flight to Aitutaki, telling us the bus would be coming between 3 and 3.20pm. We waited from 2.30pm and the bus didn't come. They then told us it had come at 2pm. They did take us to the airport in the resort car. The view from our balcony (beach front 2nd level) was beautiful, looking out on the lagoon and sunset

14 days at edgewater during school holidays with group of 15 friends in a range of room types.
We stayed in a garden view room.
After snorkeling at various places in raro we found that at Edgewater outside the activities hut was best in our opinion. Loads of fish, on par with other spots. So location was A+

The rooms - quite dated but I didn't mind that as much as the standard of bed and general maintenance. The mattress was very hard with springs jabbing you in the back. Where things had been fixed in the past they were half done with a 'that will do' attitude. The balcony door was jammed on one side and screeched when opened & closed.
Air con was good.

Noise - 1.30am arrivals each day, the porters bang and crash bags in with no regard for current guests trying to sleep.

Roosters crow all night. Didn't bother me too much, but a major topic of conversation for most.

Family oriented - there were kids everywhere having a ball. Great activities for kids etc. Not ideal for us but if you have kids its ideal.

Pricing - I was OK with the pricing on everything except the quality of the room. Just better beds are needed and I can forgive everything else.

Staff - we fell in love with the great staff who were delightful, warm and efficient then horrified by the complete incompetence and disregard of others. I miss Mona at breakfast in the morning such a wonderful woman, and Eta's captivating welcoming smile during cocktail hour. Gorgeous women who made our stay memorable.

Security - my friends were robbed during our stay. Upon arrival we were led to believe the crime rate is very low. No mention thay there is currently a spree of thefts across the entire island. Just be careful that all windows and doors are locked. They only took cash, leaving iPads and expensive watches alone.

Would I return? Not unless the mattresses were updated, but I'd recommend it for families with kids. Great activities and a good environment for the kids.

My wife and I and our 2 small children (4&5) spent a week here in July 2014. It was the best holiday we've had since starting our family. The kids loved every minute of it and so did we. The staff were sooo friendly and helpful (there was the odd not so friendly type but perhaps they were just having a bad day as we all do sometimes) But overall the staff were amazing. Each day they held different activities which were all announced via the blowing of a conch shell which alerted you something was about to start. From coconut education to traditional island drumming and ukulele school to raw fish dish prep to crab races and more.
The pool was good the food was good the beach was good. Easy car hire on site, tennis, snooker, games rooms etc. Some may complain about the roosters crowing early in the morning but it doesn't matter where you stay on Raro - you will hear roosters crowing early in the morning!
Rooms were good and facilities were good, although this place is not a 5 star resort which means some facilities etc may look a little bit tired it did not detract from an affordable and very enjoyable experience and we would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Beach front or garden villas are best for a family. Would recommend the beach front ones though if y...

After arriving at approx 1am from the airport, we had no bearings on the hotel layout until the sun came up the next morning, and the ground floor room we stayed, was right on the manicured beach. It was almost picture perfect. The check in staff were really under the pump when we arrived with about 15 other couples, but we were checked in swiftly and taken to our room by friendly hotel staff.

The room was very clean, very spacious and extremely comfortable. Slept well on a comfortable bed.

Breakfast was a highlight everyday, with chickens roaming around your table, postcard views of the lagoon and horizon and an amazing array of food on offer. The restaurant staff were very polite and friendly. Polynesian rentals were part of the hotel complex, which made obtaining a temporary license and scooter hire very convenient. It is also within walking distance to some really nice restaurants, so dinner was always easy too.

The snorkelling out in front of the hotel was pretty spectacular as it is a marine reserve that is administered by the hotel is a highlight. Fish are abundant and the water is warm in a very safe environment, especially for families with children. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Rarotonga, it will have everything you need for a great holiday.

Room Tip: The 4000 block with a ground floor room is far enough away from the main entrance for peace and quie...
