The hotel itself was lovely and our room was stunning with a lapa, pool, and very luxurious room. The staff are very warm and friendly. The resort is large so even when it's full you don't get that overcrowded feel. There are plenty of food options at the hotel but thought that Wind Jammer restaurant was the best by far. The Polynesian cultural show was nice and the cocktails at the beach bar tasty. The beach itself though was very average as was breakfast. We hired a car and drove around the island. Muri beach is far superior and worth going to for swimming and snorkeling. The day trip to Aitutaki was absolutely magnificent and worth every penny. Despite the reviews, we thought that Trader Jacks restaurant in town was a waste however and is best to be avoided. On the whole the hotel was great but would probably stay in Aitutaki next time around.

Kia Orana,

Thank you for your kind words about your recent stay at Crown Beach Resort & Spa.

We are pleased to read you enjoyed your stay in the ultra private Courtyard Pool Suite with high stone walls, private pool and outdoor dining gazebo.

We are also pleased to read that you enjoyed the hospitality from our team of 85 with service straight from the heart: Warm. Unpretentious. Island Style.

We have hired new chefs for our breakfast and lunch service and quality & standards have improved tremendously.

Thank you for your praise of Windjammer Il Veliero Restaurant with fantastic modern Italian cuisine prepared by Chef de Cuisine Mr Carlo Poli of Venice.

Aitutaki is a beautiful island and we highly recommend visitors to spend a day or two to experience its magnificent lagoon.

We hope to see you return to the Cook Islands, soon.

Our first time to Cook Islands and it didn't take long to get used to Island time. We were picked up from the airport and taken to Crown Beach Resort. Nothing too flash from the street or reception but don't be put off. Only 1 person on desk checking in us and 4 other couples/families though. We were upgraded to beachfront villa with private pool - loved it and great spot on beach. Everything I needed was in the villa including washing machine. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast could do with daily variety, a bit boring after 5 days of same menu. Not happy with oceans restaurant - ate there once. After having 1 entree, we then waited for 4 main meals. 1 hour later and watching people who arrived after us receive their meals before us we finally received them. Not really worth wait. However, ate at windjammer twice and excellent meals both times and superb service by the male waiter. Overall would return to this resort.

Kia Orana,

Thank you for your kind words about your recent stay at Crown Beach Resort & Spa.

We are pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay in our 2-Bedroom Beachfront Pool Villa with private outdoor entertainment area and private pool.

December - January is traditionally our quiet period at the resort and this is when staff take time off to travel overseas for their vacation. We were reasonably full over this time and services were somewhat strained, especially during peak hours, across all departments.

We apologise about the mix-up with your meal timing at Oceans Restaurant - your table was served by a trainee who made an honest mistake with your order sheet. She has grown in her role to become a fantastic hostess at Oceans Restaurant & Bar - which continues to deliver fantastic value for money meals, beachside.

Thank you for your praise of Windjammer Il Veliero Restaurant - our signature modern italian eatery managed by chef de cuisine Mr Carlo Poli of Venice.

We thank you for choosing to stay with us and we do hope to see you again, soon.

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at Crown Beach Resort. We travel over for the week of outrigger racing in November . This resort is tucked down at little lane and is so under stated from the from the road. Each year we have stayed in the private villas always a different one. It is so private we a little plunge pool and thatched roof villa. Inside the villa has an enormous king bed , small of cooking stuff but the the bathroom is to die for.
This would be a good honeymoon spot or taking a group of friends as we did. The staff are awesome so friendly always on hand, breakfast, lunch, cocktails, dinner it has it all. We only used the spa on one trip it was good. Snorkel or paddle out front. Hired mopeds from the resort travelled around on it no worries. Traffic slow lifestyle relaxed. I would recommend this resort to anyone going to the Cook Islands. Take a day trip to the other islands , though it is expensive but well worth it.

This was our third stay at Crown Beach and once again it was excellent. The weather was perfect, despite it being the rainy season and we had a very relaxing time. We were upgraded to a villa with a private pool (thank you) and the room and facilities were excellent. All the staff were friendly, happy and helpful. Happy hour at Ocean's Bar has now been changed from 2 for 1 cocktails to $2 off per purchase - not really so much of a "happy hour." One evening the kitchen at Ocean's ran out of beef burgers; I'm not really sure how a kitchen can run out of such a basic item, but perhaps it was because the resort was very quiet (it was the week before Xmas). One other minor point they really need to invest in new towels; the ones in the room and the ones for the beach are now old and sad, not up to the quality of the rest of the resort.
My wife and I will definitely be returning - highly recommended.

Room Tip: Try not to get one too close to Oceans Bar if you like to go to sleep early.

Did 5 nights over Christmas in pool suite. The photos on the Crown site do not do the place justice. It was a great room, great service and great place, simply the best.
Have stayed in a few places but none compares to this. From arrival to departure nothing was too much.
For those who moan about roosters and dogs - Rarotonga is an island, where else do you expect these animals to go? If you want American standards such as Dave_Niagara2013 wants, then Raro is not for you. Raro is polite, quiet and busy and welcoming. Dave you ever wonder why Americans get such a bad time overseas, when all some of them (and probably the minority) do is complain, and wish they where at home in the USA - why then travel if you expect the same experience as you would get at home? This island is for relaxing and taking in life, not racing around. Internet is just like dial up - that's a compliment, that's one of the best attractions, it can be hard to stay in touch, but if you go to Raro expecting fast paced computer driven life - forget it.
Only concern I would have is that there is no handrail to get into the pools in the suites - given a lot of baby boomers are doing the spend the kids inheritance trips, you may want to think about the age of future visitors ( and just for safety put handrail into pool suites just in corner by steps and small garden).
Love to come back sometime, just gets confusing looking at Crown site which shows limited vacancies and places like Air NZ and Expedia which show different availability.
So to finish, if you can, get the courtyard pool suites, if not anything, just stay at least once and you will get the island time excellent service and people that Raro is famous for.

Your comment about hand rails to support baby boomers into the pool is noted and appreciated and will be factored into our future development plans.

We stayed here for 5 nights in early December at a poolside villa. Rooms were clean and very comfortable. The property was great and the staff were always very helpful. Having breakfast included was great and it was always delicious, I just wish the coffee was out a bit earlier. We had dinner at the resort one night, which was was very good. The upscale Windjammer restaurant was closed for the duration of our stay, so I cannot comment on that. there are many other great restaurants within a short scooter ride or a walk. There was a wedding party that arrived near the end of our stay with many young children, which was not a big deal for us (however the property is noted as adults only).

We found when it was windy on other parts of the Island, it was always calm at the resort. Snorkeling is better on other parts of the Island, so we decided to go other locations for that. I was a bit disappointed in the happy hour prices (as many others have previously noted), the $2 off is not a very good deal compared to other locations we found around the Island, so we went elsewhere to enjoy drinks.

All in all a good experience at the hotel and we would come back if another deal presented itself (standard rates are way to high).

Kia Orana,

Thank you for your kind words about your recent stay at Crown Beach Resort & Spa.

We are pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay in our One Bedroom Villa located near the main pool. We are also pleased to read that you enjoyed your daily breakfasts, as well as your dinners at Oceans Restaurant. We apologise for the late coffees - our team will get this service started as soon as they get in for breakfast service to ensure piping hot coffee for guests as soon as they walk in the door.

Windjammer Restaurant with its modern Italian cuisine was closed for heavy kitchen maintenance during your stay. We are pleased to advise that the restaurant has reopened and is pleasing many diners with fantastic cuisine by Chef de Cuisine Carlo Poli and exceptional unobtrusive service by Aurand and the girls.

We have modified our Happy Hour program by removing the 'buy 1, get 1 free' offer and have replaced it with a general reduction in standard pricing across the menu PLUS a further $2 off each drink during happy hour from 4.30-6.30pm.

We will continue to release special deals for our One Bedroom Villas, so we do hope you take advantage of future specials so we can see you both again, soon.

The Crown Beach was recommended to us by friends who had stayed there just a few weeks previously. Though it was a late booking, we managed to get a beachfront room. I had previously stayed in a resort on Muri lagoon, but my wife had never been to Rarotonga. So this was a difficult choice – stay where I’d been previously or go on a friend’s advice.

Well!!!! Thank you to P & D – this was definitely the right choice. The resort is wonderful! The units are very clean and tidy, with some of the villas with own pools recently redecorated. The landscaping of the resort is very tastefully done – it is not overgrown, which I suspect is the reason there were few insects, especially there were no mosquitoes (maybe the time of year or the weather was responsible), but all my life, these little beast have been aware of my arrival and been at the airport to greet me. Here, not a bite! Where would I place the Crown? Possibly not quite at the 5 Star level (we have stayed in 5 Star all over the world and this is not one) but in our opinion, there really are no honest-to-goodness 5 Star resorts on the island – well, we couldn’t find one and we visited a few, with Rumours coming closest to 5 Stars. But without doubt the Crown is one of the top resorts on Rarotonga.

The staff were all awesome – very attentive and eager to please. They couldn’t do enough for us. The ambiance of the place was superb, especially from our room on the beach. We sat on our balcony and watched the sunset every night. There are two restaurants on-site – Oceans and Windjammer – which one to choose? Try both – we ate in Windjammers twice and loved it. Try their saffron flavoured seafood soup – simply to die for!!!!!

Would we go again? If we go back to Rarotonga, the Crown will be the ONLY place we would stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in Unit 4 right on the beach, which is great for a couple. Units 1, 2 and 3, though sold a...

Kia Orana,

Thank your kind words about your recent stay at Crown Beach Resort & Spa.

We are pleased to read that you enjoyed the Beachfront Villa with direct access to the sandy beach and turquoise lagoon. 30m to the right of the resort is a fantastic wide open sandy patch that is perfect for swimming. All our guests who have swum in this area have raved about its tranquil swimming quality and excellent sea life.

Our gardens are carefully maintained to ensure bugs don't breed, especially mosquitos and other creepy crawlies.

Our two restaurants offer fantastic dining options featuring pan Australiasian meals at Oceans Restaurant and modern Italian cuisine at Windjammer Restaurant.

Our team of 85 deliver hospitality from the heart: Warm. Unpretentious. Island Style.
