“The Real Safari Camp Almost”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 March 2014

I got to stay in the very large and comfortable permanent tent accommodation which was a taste of what the safaris in the movies were like. These tents are far better than the small rather stuffy brick chalets. All accommodation is set among the undergrowth of the Addo Park and there is only a fence separating the site from the animals. You could sleep in the very comfy beds and see the stars and hear all the bush sounds. It was an experience not to be missed in Africa. It is also a private game lodge so yes, animals get killed and from what I saw on the bench in the kitchen, eaten (it was kudu meat). Being vegetarian, it was somewhat offputting. The eating area and bar is set around a fire pit to make it like a camp when it was still somewhat under cover. A great concept. Then the "drawing room" full of stuffed heads of animals (I am not squeamish and do understand that times and consciousnesses change), photos of shoots and crystals decanters of spirits - no doubt to fortify the hunters and Dr Livingstone I presume.

Room Tip: ask for the tents and not the chalets. They are quite luxurious in comparison.

The food is excellent and the host`s service good. Nice braai area and terrace for sundowner and star gazing. However the "chalets" are very old fashioned and basic and therefore quiet expensive... you get better value for that money in the area.

Nice lodge, good location, as it's an easy drive from Port Elizabeth and not far from Addo Elephant Park. Food was good and not expensive. We stayed in tents, but having a private bathroom and shower was rather nice.

There was a bit of confusion about where the children would stay (we expected them to have their own tent, but once we arrived, realized that was not really possible), but it would be nice to have that information updated on the booking.com site for future visitors.

We spent 2 nights here and Brian and Jenny were lovely. They booked us on a safari with Schotia which we loved. We stayed on one of the tents in the grounds. We ate one evening meal with them which was simple and tasty and 2 breakfasts which were the same. They light the fire pit at night and have a bar, it was very social and we would go back again.

We had a magic stay with the Kudu Ridge crowd. The staff and owners are really friendly and made us feel welcome. My 4 year old son had an fabulous time in the tented accommodation and was in tears when we had to leave.

We stayed at Kudu Ridge with two adults and our two kids and really envoyed the stay. Especially for the children it was a nice family like atmosphere with close contact to he owners.
Very friendly, with a nice feeling to be out in nature. The kids liked very much sitting in the evening at the fire and playing with the dogs of the owners.

We cannot thank Brian and Jenny enough for providing such a memorable experience. They went above and beyond to ensure each of my ladies were happy and comfortable. Our homestyle dinner was fantastic, the atmosphere superb! We enjoyed a fantastic hike in the morning with Brian who pointed out all the interesting flora and fauna. The accommodation is wonderful, tent style but definitely not roughing it! Amazing value, great location! Thanks for everything Brian and Jenny!
