I got to stay in the very large and comfortable permanent tent accommodation which was a taste of what the safaris in the movies were like. These tents are far better than the small rather stuffy brick chalets. All accommodation is set among the undergrowth of the Addo Park and there is only a fence separating the site from the animals. You could sleep in the very comfy beds and see the stars and hear all the bush sounds. It was an experience not to be missed in Africa. It is also a private game lodge so yes, animals get killed and from what I saw on the bench in the kitchen, eaten (it was kudu meat). Being vegetarian, it was somewhat offputting. The eating area and bar is set around a fire pit to make it like a camp when it was still somewhat under cover. A great concept. Then the "drawing room" full of stuffed heads of animals (I am not squeamish and do understand that times and consciousnesses change), photos of shoots and crystals decanters of spirits - no doubt to fortify the hunters and Dr Livingstone I presume.
