An outstanding experience. We would strongly recommend. Previous reviews have not fully captured the uniqueness of the huts, and surrounding area. We stayed in one of the luxury huts, and were amazed by the intricate hand- work required to construct our hut. We really felt we were in Africa. Most of our contact was with Margaret, one of the owners, who was delightful. We had to leave early our last day-before breakfast- and she packed up a breakfast for us. At Chrislin's recommendation, we took the combined Addo/ Schotia one day tour, and saw four of the five "Big Five", including scores of elephants and a male lion from 20 feet away. We would strongly recommend this, tour, especially if your time is limited.
If you are going to the Addo area, there are many B and B's, but why would you want to stay any place other than Chrisliln?

A lovely, reasonably priced guesthouse near Addo Elephant National Park, with good reviews previously. We stayed in a hut with two single beds and a sleeper couch (three people traveling together). The sleeper couch was not so comfy, but the beds were! It felt very authentic, with plaster walls and a thatched roof.

The guesthouses are in the middle of a citrus farm, and the orange trees were blooming while we were there. It was heavenly! As was the freshly squeezed orange juice (no sugar added!) at breakfast. It was a bit buggy to be by the pool, but we enjoyed a glass of wine brought to us by the owner anyway.

A great value, friendly staff, authentic charm, and a wonderfully- scented experience. It didn't hurt that the moon was full and we could walk around in the night air amongst the orange blossoms.

  • Liked — The orange trees
  • Disliked — Spiders in the bathroom (it is a thatched hut after all!)

+ Near Addo Elephant Park
+ Beautiful Grounds
+ Warm and Friendly Hosts
+ Good Breakfast
+ Great Value
+ Huts are made in true African Style, are very comfortable, clean, spacious
+ Awesome Oranges Grove - All you can pick and eat for free

Some guide books have called this place funky. If you think funky is a negative term, think again. This place is well worth the stay if you are going to Addo.

They also offer a traditional Braai in the evening. Great!

Here is the bigger question - Would you rather go to Addo or to Kruger? Addo is convenient if you are traveling the Garden Route, but Kruger is the grand-daddy of the all and is well worth a vist.

We wanted to somewhere to stay whilst visiting Addo Elephant Park and this fitted the bill perfectly. The seemingly authentic huts even allowed you to play at being out in the bush miles from civilisation!

The huts themselves were very nicely appointed, comfortable and clean. Insect repellent is required since you are still in a hut and not a house! And just be aware: the bathrooms in the huts don't have doors!

The family who own and run the place are completely charming and couldn't have been more helpful. They also organised a braii when we got back from our game drive (which they also helped organise) and that was super too. Very happy with our choice.

Hello,

We stayed at Crislin in early March this year. Looking at their website really does not justice to the location and how peaceful the area is, and how beautiful the huts and facilities are.

We had booked to stay in the luxury hut, and yes it was luxury - but you still got the African feel, the bed was huge, there was a leather sofa, for lounging on, during the heat of the day and a fridge stocked with your beverages of choice.

You really get the family feeling from the owners - and that is a very positive and personal vibe. Breakfast was great served in the hospitality area, where they also organise Braai's.

There is a great pool - with lovely lounging facilities in the shade for those who want to stay out of the sun...

Surronded by the citrus trees, it is in the heart of Addo, and the family are really happy to book for your trips, and help you work out your schedule. We did an Addo night tour, a Schotia Claw tour (which was awesome and I highly recommend). We also took a canoe ride down the local river early one morning - which gave you a total change of perspective. It was really a relaxing experience as the guides paddled us silently down the river - we saw fish feeding, lizards and multitudes of birds - really up close.

[-]

The Guides were great and very friendly and knowledgable....

Please make sure you spend at leadt 3 days there as really there is so much to see and do, but make sure you have time to soak up the atmosphere....

I want to preface this review by saying we thought our "Safari" experience in Africa was going to have to set us back quite a bit, financially. Everything we'd found -- all-inclusive lodging/safari game drives -- was going to cost a pretty penny. Fortunately, we stumbled upon Chrislin B&B while searching through tripadvisor.com's listings for places to stay near Addo Elephant Park. We feel so lucky to have found it! What a wonderful gem of a place.

Location: Off the beaten path (about 45 minutes from Pt. Elizabeth), but nestled right near the Addo Elephant Park and the Schotia Game Reserve. We had rented a car in Cape Town and drove along the Garden Route to arrive. Definitely plan a few days to get from CPT to Chrislin. It's a long way -- and you'll want to stop in the many small towns (Knysna, Plett Bay beach, Jeffrey's Bay) for sightseeing and a rest or two!),

Rooms: Fabulous! I've never before stayed in a traditional mud hut, and wow -- what an experience. They're absolutely gorgeous; top-notch craftsmanship. We stayed in one of the "luxury" huts, which was more than enough -- quite luxurious indeed! The walk-in shower, built from the mud, was a highlight. And the scent of the thatched roof was intoxicating. Comfy bed and sofa. Best sleep I had the whole trip!

Meals: Another highlight! We arrived just in time for dinner and were treated to quite a feast in the adjacent out-building at Sneezewoods (also owned by the Chrislin family). The open-air dining experience was lovely. It was at this moment that I truly felt like I was in Africa.

Excursions: We took the recommendation of the proprietors and did the all-day game drive to Addo/Schotia. Absolutely worth every penny. Van picked us up at 10 a.m., took us to both reserves -- where we saw unbelievable animals -- and dropped us home after dark (meals included).

Staff: So accomodating and nice! We thoroughly enjoyed visiting with the owners and learning about the countryside and history.

If we ever visit S. Africa again, I'd absolutely stay at Chrislin -- and recommend it to anyone visiting.

We stayed at Chrislin in November last year.

I have to say we had a fantastic time from start to finish.

Our room - one of the new, round luxury ones - was brilliant. We had a comfy bed, separate dressing area, en-suite, fridge and tea and coffee facilities. The Headboard on the bed was timber, built into the wall and the room also had a leather couch to sit and relax too.

Our hosts were amazing. The best during our stay in South Africa. All welcoming and made you feel right at home. Margaret & Linda were lovely and cooked us a fantastic evening meal every night (there are two or three local restaurants too, but we were happy to have a couple of glasses of wine / beer with our meal at Chrislin), including an exceptional Braai. Chris is flient in German which was great so he could chat to every guest - we're English so this didn't matter greatly - but is worth mentioning. Chris is also into Geology, Flora and Fauna and is full of knowledge about the local area we enjoyed sitting and chatting late into the evening a couple of times.

Breakfast in the morning is cooked to order and you have the option of Toast & Cereal on a help yourself basis. Rooibos Tea is also served, but you can have Coffee & normal tea too. A great start to the day in wonderful surroundings.

The location 1. The B&B itself is brilliant in Chris & Lin's orchard and is peaceful & relaxing. Dinner & breakfast are served in a big mud hut / meeting house which is open on one side & is candlelit in the evening - its all clean tidy with lovely big wooden tables. The swimming pool is lovely and warm ready for your return in the afternoon.

The location 2. Chrislin itself is only 11km - (6.5 Miles) from the Main Entrance to Addo Elephant Park. Addo is awesome - words cannot express the wonder of seeing 50+ Elephants at a watering hole early in the morning - and there are all sorts of Bok's Zebra, Buffalo etc in the park too.

Margaret also knows of a few Game Parks on the other side of Addo - between 30 and 70 Km away - and arranged a drive for us at Pumba - a good trip, we did the 4pm which included an eveningn meal.

Lin & Chris's son - also Chris - runs CrissCross adventures. We went on a Tour of Addo with him and saw far more than driving ourselves through. He also took us on a guided canoe trip down Sunday's river where I tried fishing with a difference and we saw a Fish Eagle.

All in all when I come back to South Africa I'll definately stay at Chrislin again and hopefully next time do a trip into the Zuurberg Mountains to see more of the amazing scenary & wildlife that the Eastern Cape has to offer.

Thank you all at Chrislin for a FANTASTIC stay.

Matt & Lisa Butler
