“Perfect little cottage”

We'd lived in Penrith about 5 years ago and decided to come back for a holiday. On the day we checked in we walked up Helvellyn in the cold and rain so it was lovely to get straight in to the cottage and get the fire lit. It's a lovely, cosy cottage in a very nice village, with good food nearby. We'll definitely book again.

The Cottage is fantastic but the neighbors in the barn conversion are not.

We had my mother in law with us , who has poor mobility and I brought the car to the cottage door to pick her up and the neighbor took great delight in saying that no cars were allowed ,I then offered to move my car to the top of the drive but he said it's unacceptable.

Shame because the cottage is great , the other neighbors were nice and she had no problem with leaving the car basically opposite her house.

I'm really surprised and sorry about the attitude of the neighbours to you. The lane is narrow but guests certainly can drive down to the cottage so I will clarify that with them. I hope that this didn't mar your holiday too much. Apologies again. Suzanne

“warm/cosy cottage close to Ullswater.”
Reviewed 11 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

The cottage was really comfortable.
The central heating meant it was really warm and there was tons of hot water.
The kitchen was great, really well equipped, and we got a really good nights sleep.
All the bedding was really clean and fresh and the beds were great.
We were at a pottery festival in Penrith and would definitely come back next year.

“A jewel in the Lakes!”

Gibson Cottage is situated in the small village of Stainton on the edge of the Lake District National Park. The beauty of the Lake District is within easy reach no matter what mode of transport you decide to use and Penrith is a short drive away. A local shop and an hotel/restaurant can cater for your basic needs but, dear reader, this is no ordinary cottage!
This quaint and bijou residence is tucked away in a quiet secluded cul-de-sac which, when the front door shuts (and there is only a front door) the outside world is excluded by the 2 feet thick stone walls. Inside, there is a neat and cosy 18th century oak beamed living space and, via a door – shaped hole in the wall, a perfectly equipped kitchen diner. The two rooms share a common fireplace and open log fire which only adds to the quirky charm of this lovely little cottage! There is a good sized bathroom behind the kitchen with a modern shower, loo and sink. Upstairs, on the mezzanine floor, accessed via a cute (but steep) double aspect staircase , there resides the most palatial and comfortable of super king beds, a good sized double wardrobe and chest of drawers. Two Velux windows allow the sunlight in and give great views of the stars at night! The high, oak-beamed and pitched roof adds to the effect of Baronial spaciousness in this most romantic of bedrooms!
If you want acres of outside space and living accommodation then this is not for you. But, if, like us, you seek out the charming, cosy and romantic then look no further than Gibson Cottage - it will definitely not disappoint! Thank you for reading!
