“beautiful location, very warm people”
Reviewed 30 January 2012

If you want a scenic, back to nature type of place to live in, this one is perfect! The lodges are set in an absolutely beautiful setting, with picture postcard views - and a little brook 10 meters away to complete the scenic view! Prim is an absolutely wonderful host and she supervises all aspects of your stay with great care and attention. So we arranged our transport, excursions etc all through her and found her very helpful. The restaurant staff is attentive and though the food is quite good (not spectacular), the setting and ambience more than made it up for us. The lodges are very spacious, but are not for those who need lots of mod cons. So for example, we went in Jan and at night it got fairly cool. But the lodge windows were old and a bit draughty... the showers work but are not that powerful. So its little things like that which make me give it a very high 4 (but not a comprehensive 5)

The location for the lodges is in a national park and the staff has done an amazing job with the decorations, and artsy decor "everywhere" inside and outside the rooms. The plantings around the grounds (including live plants in the showers), waterfall, bridge, etc are beautiful. The lodges are also separated so they aren't on top of each other. The rooms are very large - and as someone mentioned pretty cold in January. The covers on the bed is adequate. The minor problems which would make me want to rate at 4.5 if there was such a rating: No hand towels - only bath towels (1 per person) and they didn't even change our towels we had used during our 2 night stay. They also didn't empty the wastebasket when they cleaned the room, but they had a very large locked "Tip Box" on the table. Despite one of their sites saying they had bathrobes and coffee and tea service, they had none of these available. A bathrobe would be a good addition in the cold rooms. There was a hot pot for hot water, a large refrigerator and microwave, but no coffee or tea available to use. The wireless internet is free and works okay. The TV has no English channels. Lodge is about 45 minutes from Chiang Mai on the way to the Flight of the Gibbon attraction. The meals we had were ok but not spectacular. They did try to please however. The lock on the door was very flimsy and would be very easy to break in when not in your room (just a push button on the handle with a big gap between the door jam and door). Would I recommend staying here? yes. But they could improve their lodge by caring for these deficiencies.

We stayed at this beautiful place (rooms, restaurant, rivers, mountain, hiking,massage...)
It was the start of our trip. Picked us up at Chaing Mai Airport. It was a 30 minute drive.

Food was great. Massages were great. Hiking was great. Beautiful place.

After 3 days here we were ready for the rest of our adventure.

Room Tip: can't choose a bad room.

We stayed at Tharnthong Lodges and had an absolutely amazing time! Prim is a wonderful host and coordinated our adventures in the area. Our room was as unique as the property. The landscape is breathtaking and is taken in by peaceful strolls around the property. The food at the restaurant is delicious and exotic and some of the best food on our trip was at Tharnthong! The onsite massage was definitely a treat, especially after a long jungle trek!

The place is so beautiful, we could not stop taking pictures. The river, the forest, the garden, the small corners, the art, the whole view - is like a dream. We got a large villa for 5. The food is very good, The place is quiet and suitable for nature lovers. Our children swim in the river, feed the rabbits, the dog, the monkeys, the parrot and the fish. It is closed to the jungle flight omega, so one day we went there for half day, the women took a Thai cooking half day course in a village closed to Chiang Mai, and we all met again in the place for a good dinner. We reserved a massage for the whole family. Prim invited 5 massagists who came from the village, so the feeling was excellent. Prim is the manager of this place and she will do anything to make your stay enjoying, she arranged for us the tickets for the omega and the cooking course. The place is so amazing that we called it "paradise" and we actually remember it as one of the best places we have been to in Thailand. After we left we heard that there was floods in the north so we don't know if the place was hurt, but we will never forget it...

Room Tip: All the villas are very big and suitable to big families or frinds, you will find all the details in...

Tharnthong Lodge is everything previous reviewers have said. Its low season right now and obviously the resort was quiet which suited us.The location is just suberb and with the recent rain leaving the stream running swiftly. Seeing so many fish at feedng time was a highlight not often you can do that in a natural environment.

We stayed in one of the smaller dwellings and it was very comfortable. What the web site doesn't tell you is that you also get aTV with satellite stations, a DVD player ,with DVD's supplied and a small fridge. The Thia food was also excellent. We farewelled Prim with the words "we will be back" and we will ! We only live 45 minutes away ...lucky us.

This review is long overdiew . We have stayed in Tharnthong Lodge twice and hope to do so again. Its a very unique place. Situated in a state forest and picturesque surroundings overlooking a creek meandering through the middle of the resort. We wondered for hours throuhg the tropical gardens and wondered at the ingenuity of people who made this place. Every piece of wood was turned into a sculpture or unique piece of furniture. We had great dinners together with the hosts and they have taken us up to the mountains to show us the great views. We would like to thank them for their warmth and hospitality .
