We had a large family gathering for Sunday lunch. The food was excellent and the views from our table over the Tamar valley were terrific. We have visited several times in the past - my mother's 90th birthday was celebrated here. This time my husband and I stayed for the night The room was extremely comfortable and breakfast was also excellent - the best eggs benedict I have ever had. This is an absolutely lovely restaurant and hotel, probably my favourite restaurant of all.

Could not fault this Hotel.

Room was spotless, staff were happy, food was excellent.

One of the best Hotels I have ever stayed at.

The view from the room (4) was superb.

This Hotel and Shelley's (previous Hotel) contact you to write a review on Trip Advisor. I do but don't like to be reminded!

Room Tip: All the rooms are good.....lovely Hotel.

We enjoyed an excellent lunch with friends at this county house hotel. The views from the restaurant were stunning. Staff were all friendly and the service was faultless. The food was of a very high quality and beautifully presented. We have decided we must return for a night after Christmas together with our dog Oscar..............yes dogs are even allowed in the garden rooms! This is a must visit for anyone visiting the area.

Nice hotel, overlooking the Tamar Valley, great large room, big big bed and a bathroom big enough for a party, roll top bath, smashing shower and loads of hot water, food to absolutely die for , why this place does not have at least one Michelin Star is a mystery, venison, lamb, partridge, scallops and really good fish all perfectly cooked and magnificently presented! Breakfasts as well presented to perfection, check out the eggs benedict on bacon or mushrooms , both magnifico!

Visit Dartmoor prison museum for a great history lesson, or Padstow for Steinville fish and chips, or indeed Plymouth on the Hoe for great fish restaurants and old fashioned pubs, a real thrill!!

Room Tip: Choose the rooms in the house not the garden, although they are just extending the gardenrooms so th...

We chose to stay here after reading reviews. It was not disappointing. The warm welcome with home made madalaines was perfect (they happen to be my favourite). If was my 50th birthday and I wanted to be cosseted and fed! The room was beautiful and I enjoyed a bath whilst looking out over the fantastic valley. Flowers in my room were a lovely touch they offered too. High standard of cleanliness with robes and fluffy white towels. The bed was gigantic and so comfortable.
The food was top quality and beautifully presented, extensive wine list too. Staff were all discreetly on hand to assist, and welcomed us with warmly without being overbearing.
I would not hesitate to recommend this establishment and would love to return!
Thank you for a memorable birthday weekend.

We have just had another great overnight stay, this time for my wife's birthday. This place is consistently good, with friendly staff, comfortable setting, and very good food. The garden rooms are great, with lovely views and a balcony -- although not the weather to sit out this time. The only downside is having to walk outside to get from bedroom to dining room. But plenty of umbrellas around to use. One word of warning though. The 'taster' menu is not for the faint hearted. It is two aperitifs, three starters, one main course and two puddings. None of them looked any smaller than usual portions, and staff confirmed there is little difference. It is all so delicious that it is hard to send plates back half eaten. You need a big appetite for this. If you don't really have it, better to order an extra starter or whatever. The tasting menu also doesn't let you choose your courses. But the upside for me was eating stuff I would not naturally have ordered, so it was an education.......
