Have stayed here twice now and this time we thought we would spend the little extra and go for the superior room with the balcony (room 3). We were not disappointed as the balcony is huge with fabulous views out over the Tamar Valley.
The bed was massive and very comfortable, and the bathroom is huge with lovely roll-top bath and separate shower cubicle. Shower worked perfectly with plenty of power and heat.
Unfortunately we had horrendous weather during our stay (can't blame the hotel for that) so we didn't get out to do any walking, but on the plus side it made it all the better for sitting in front of the wonderful log fire in the library, sipping tea and reading a book!
As expected, dinner was excellent and could not be faulted, you just have to go there and try for yourself to see what I mean.
Again, breakfast in the morning was superb, and made all the better with the fabulous views you get from the dining room.
All the staff were very friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble.
Go now while they still have their 'Beat the Winter Blues' special offers on, great value for money and all in all 10/10!

Room Tip: If you can afford the extra then worth going for the rooms with the balconies (3&4) as the view...

Have just returned from a wonderful "birthday break"... food was amazing, staff extremely helpful and welcoming with a lovely room overlooking the walled garden (complete with balcony). We had booked in under the "Winter Warmer" offer (complete with open fires etc.). Loved it!

Room Tip: We had booked the garden room ... there was a bottle of cold champagne waiting and were able to toas...

The hotel is really well situated with great views, even on a wet February day. We really enjoyed the food and the staff were really friendly and helpful.

The only issue was the room. While it was comfortable enough with a massive bathroom I was disappointed to find that the bath was actually quite small and not very deep. In fact I've had similar in cheaper hotels. While I appreciate that its saves water, I do like to have a decent bath in a deluxe room. We also found that the heating was either full on or off so we were either hot or cold.

These small issues aside we did really enjoy our stay and would recommend staying over.

The special £149 offer is good value

Beware if you are planning a Monday night dinner B&B. Monday night is 'Pot Luck' dinner at a reduced basic price of £20 per head that is not reflected in the overall booking. Don't bother trying to give feedback as you may, like me, receives a rather supercilious response that can only be described as arrogant by the owner. A bit of a damper on a visit to a nice hotel with good food.

The food is excellent. All the staff are wonderful.

Bedroom #1 is not wonderful. Very good bed and sheets/duvet. The central heating reached 27 degrees just before dinner on both nights - there are no thermostatic valves on the radiators. On the first night we slept with the window open all night (in January!). Only the bottom half of the sash windows opened - the top half is well and truly paint stuck. There are no proper curtains (net) just a rather tatty pink roller blind. One of the arm chairs is not very clean and worn out with ill matching antimacassars covering the threadbare arms. Furniture from different periods with modern tat on top.

The bathroom was poor. Chips in the enamel bath; cracked washbasin; cracked wooden toilet seat; the basin surround has settled away from the tiles leaving a gap between it and the silicon seal on the tiles; black mould growing in places where the tiles meet the bath and around the shower screen and on the bath side panel where the shower water leaks down it onto the floor. All the taps and shower fittings are old and the gold finish has mostly rubbed away, leaving a very poor appearance and impression. The hot water takes an eternity to arrive after the tap is turned on. The light over the mirror worked only intermittently (by touching the bare bulb to bring it to life).

The place is faded and has the air of management not caring (albeit the staff are wonderful).

All in all a very disappointing experience.

We had the most wonderful night at The Horn of Plenty. We stayed as a belated Christmas treat and it was just perfect. We have been fortunate to stay in a few lovely hotels in the South West but this so far is our absolute favourite. The room was gorgeous - lovely balcony with gorgeous views over the Tamar valley - and really well equipped with everything you need - including fresh milk in the fridge - a lovely selection of new magazines - and a fantastically comfortable bed. The food was incredible, we could have chosen so much from the menu. The only point worth noting was that my boyfriend booked a garden room which he didn't realise was set away from the main hotel building... due to the horrendous weather we had to wrap up before dinner and breakfast which wasn't a problem - we just hadn't really planned for it.

This was as excellent as on previous visits..The food last night was truly memorable - We ate beautifully cooked locally sourced venison, We loved the out of this world flavours present in all the courses..The restaurant/hotel service is excellent and staff very friendly and helpful... our pretty upstairs garden room had wonderful views over the Tamar valley..there was a large bathroom with gallons of hot water and large fluffy towels, the big comfortable bed gave a wonderful nights sleep and we appreciated the fresh milk to go with the tea/coffee facility..looking forward to a return visit soon
