“A Very Very Expensive Nasty Shock”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 November 2011

Looking for rooms for the night after a long day I made the mistake of not asking the price beforehand. This is billed as a restaurant with rooms and has 2 forks in the Michelin Guide. We were expecting the dinner to be rather expensive but Dinner, with B&B cost £225-00 for two! The hosts were unwilling to break that down. Had they done so it might have made more sense
We calculated that for average rooms they should have cost no more than £70-00 for two [based on prices in Scotland in late October of the 6 places we stayed in, all at the top of the range], which made the Dinner £77-50 a head. It certainly was not worth anything like that, given that it was a perfectly straightforward meal – one of us had 2 courses the other 3 - and no gourmet fare though it was well cooked and presented. Wine was extra.
When the room warmed up [no CH] it was OK and was comfortable enough but not of a high standard. It was quiet.
They boasted of freshy squeezed orange juice for breakfast. Although it had ‘bits in’ it was not – both by the taste and we saw the packet as she was leaving the room. It had come from the supermarket! This was a very disappointing place to stay at a shockingly high price, and we definitely would not go back or recommend it. For a meal it might well be OK but ine should ask the price beforehand or risk a nasty shock.

This is the place to be, my wife and I stepped into that marvellous restaurant in that tiny town Inverkeilor on the East Coast of Scotland. We read the remarks about that place and everything was exact as they told. We had that 5 course meal, My wife had the Soufflé, velouté, cod and sea greens, lime sorbet in between and chocolate with honey ice cream and coffee I had Quail filled with black pudding, velouté, that wonderful tasty slow cooked feather blade with foie gras and chanterelles, sorbet and that succulent pannacotta and coffee Together with a nice bottle of Chateau Devine 2008 St. Emilion that was a superb experience; We surely will be back, even the price was reasonable, 145 £ for two pers. Not cheap but well worth it.
Goed: everything Niet goed: we life to far away to visit this place more often

We spent three great nights at Gordon's and Maria's reataurant with rooms in Inverkeilor whilst traveling to the Women's Open Golf at Carnoustie. The meals were outstanding with innovative cooking and excellent presentation, with great wines to accompany the food. Maria was as attentive and friendly at front of house as Gordon was accomplished and equally friendly as chef. The Courtyard Suite was comfortable and very well kitted out - it was good to spend time there to rest weary legs after walking the golf course all day. This was a real find and deserves success to match the hard work and skils of the owners

Went for Sunday lunch, it was winter so did not expect it to be too busy. Was a cold day & restaurant was unfortunatley cold on our arrival, the heaviness of the decor added to the gloom of the cold.
Menu was 3 courses with a selection of 2 within each.

Food was beautifully presented, expertly executed and soo tasty. The best brioche & fois gras pate I have tasted.

We will be back.
