“What! No Star !!”
Reviewed 5 December 2011

Not the first time I have visited, wont be the last. This time was different, instead of an evening meal, I went for Sunday Lunch, Its a slightly smaller menu (in size - not taste). Had a traditionally Sunday ish feel to it, but with key modern twists.
I had a Quail with a Stornoway Black Pudding stuffing as a starter. I regularly eat this black pudding and as a stuffing in this example, its 10 out of 10. Once again, utterly fantastic, staff are fantastic and very friendly and welcoming. Not expensive, but, not cheap, worth absolutely every single penny.

“A Very Very Expensive Nasty Shock.”
Reviewed 21 November 2011

This is billed as a restaurant with rooms and has 2 forks in the Michelin Guide. I made the mistake of not asking the price beforehand. We were expecting the dinner to be rather expensive but Dinner, B&B cost £225-00 for two! Unbelievable. The hosts were unwilling to break that down.
We calculated that for average rooms they should have cost no more than £70-00 for two [based on prices in Scotland in late October of the 6 places we stayed in, all at the top of the range], which made the Dinner £77-50 a head. It certainly was not worth anything like that, given that it was a perfectly straightforward meal, and nothing special – one of us had 2 courses the other 3]. Wine was extra. The hostess was very 'busy' and 'chatty'.
Although it took us at least an hour to get there after our phone call they had not bothered to put the heating on so the room was really cold. When the room did warm up [no CH] it was OK and was comfortable enough but not of a high standard. It was quiet.
They boasted of freshy squeezed orange juice for breakfast. Although it had ‘bits in’ it was not – both by the taste and we saw the packet as she was leaving the room. It had come from the supermarket! This was a very disappointing place to stay at a shockingly high price, and we definitely would not go back or recommend it. For a meal it might well be OK but ine should ask the price beforehand or risk a nasty shock.
We would never ever go again as we think this was a rip off.

“Maria sets the standard for the experience ahead”
Reviewed 29 October 2011

We have dined at this restaurant on a number of occasions over the past 15 years. Our daughter was treating us to a meal anywhere in scotland - we choose Gordon's. Maria, front of house manager, sets the standard for what is to follow, great welcome, choice of table in a lovely cosy setting, Maria moves from table to table engaging in chat and service with a style and efficiency reflecting her many years running this establishment. We made our decisions over a glass of South African pinot noir. The mix of starters would test the kitchen with all options from the menu being chosen, the quail was succulent, the souffle cooked to perfection. The intermediary course of veloute and an offer of a "wee rest" before the mains are served a welcome addition. The generous portion of hake and julienne vegetables was beautifully presented, the other diners sampling the venison and the duck, each cooked and presented to the very highest standard. The finale of deserts and handmade chocolates rounded off a superb evening. The opportunity to hear first hand from the chefs Gary and Gordon rounds off a wonderful experience for the discerning diner. This is a truly one of the very best in Scotland and you have to wonder why this business has not been given the recognition of Michelin star.

“what a nice surprise”
Reviewed 30 September 2011

13 sept. 2011
This is the place to be, my wife and I stepped into that marvellous restaurant in that tiny town Inverkeilor on the East Coast of Scotland. We read the remarks about that place and everything was exact as they told. We had that 5 course meal, My wife had the Soufflé, velouté, cod and sea greens, lime sorbet in between and chocolate with honey ice cream and coffee. I had Quail filled with black pudding, velouté, that wonderful tasty slow cooked feather blade with foie gras and chanterelles, sorbet and that succulent pannacotta and coffee. Together with a nice bottle of Chateau Devine 2008 St. Emilion, this was a superb experience; We surely will be back, even the price was reasonable, 145 £ for two pers. Not cheap but well worth it.
Goed: everything, not good: we life to far away to visit this place more often

“Excellent gives the Peat Inn a run for it's money”
Reviewed 9 September 2011

This is our fourth visit to Gordon's. Every time the food, service and atmosphere has been outstanding. There is a very relaxed but professional service with a very personal touch as the owners are there hands on. Superb and even is as good as if not better than the Peat Inn
