“Slightly Disappointing”
Reviewed 3 April 2014

Our two day short break was booked via Booking.com. The hotel did not in our opinion live up to its rating or reviews in a number of key areas. There were many positive aspects of our stay however, the staff were friendly, particularly the waiting staff in the restaurant on both evenings, the bar had atmosphere and the food very good with a varied menu. The location is also good. The price paid for B&B did not match our expectations nor reach a standard comparable with our experiences at other hotels with a 3 star rating. Our room was in need of updating, the curtains had hooks missing causing them to droop and look shabby. The room generally had a 1970s feel to it, with a pink padded headboard, ornate glass wall lights as bed reading lights and an old wardrobe and dressing table. The power points for the TV and kettle seemed to be an extension from an extension within the wardrobe and routed under carpet which is far from ideal. The en suite bathroom had a bath with a shower over but it was almost impossible to regulate the temperature of the shower. There was no shelf or other place to store toiletries. The lock on the bathroom door was hanging loose from its mounting and the hook on the back of the bathroom door was missing. Our main criticism however was in respect of general housekeeping. While making no criticism about cleanliness, we noticed that the teapot contained tea on our arrival and remained so throughout our stay. On the morning of the second day we left wet towels in the bath for replacement as we had no method of drying them. When we returned later in the day we found that the wet towels had been removed from the bath, folded and while still wet placed on the radiator which was turned off. We enjoyed our much needed break with friends but found the hotel slightly disappointing and it is unlikely that we would either recommend it or return.

Some say that location is everything, however, Barry has location plus excellent locally sourced food and superb accommodation. Only one more thing to add to the mix; staff, again, Barry and Sue have weaved their magic and behold, wonderful staff to compliment the fabulous selection of beers and wines. In sum, a beacon for the weary traveller, I recommend time spent in this hostelry will be time very well spent. Enjoy the experience and savour the views of this gorgeous area.

We have just spent a long weekend at the Wye Valley Hotel with friends what a wonderful place to stay. Barry, Sue and Grace were all so friendly and helpful and they suggested places in the area to visit. The food was fantastic such a wide choice and they certainly didnt stint on the portion sizes they were huge and they were reasonably priced. The hotel was clean, the beds were comfortable if a little too firm for my personal taste. There was plenty of hot water and everywhere was lovely and warm. There is plenty of off road parking and although we were on a main road we didnt hear any traffic noise to bother us, we will certainly go back again and would really recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We didnt have a problem with noise so would recommend any room our room no. 8 was on the end with tr...

I'm planning to book a surprise meal to celebrate my wife's birthday and wanted to support a village business. I asked if I could book a table in the bar on a very wet evening. No sorry we don't do bookings in the bar so soorry I'll go elsewhere. Both the Anchor and Moon and Sixpence said we can arrange any table bar or restaurant, no surprises another business will get my hard earned cash.

What a shame.

Another great trip to the Wye Valley hotel with Sue and Barry's kind hospitality. Food as always amazing with locally sourced ingredients and warm cosy facilities; all great for a winter visit. Doggy friendly in the bar but also a restaurant if your prefer pet free.
Rooms always clean, warm and gallons of hot water for a bath after a long walk. Followed by a filter coffee/tea selection in your room with freshly baked biscuits everyday.

I can thoroughly recommend and hope to visit in the spring.... pictures attached.

A good family run hotel with spectacular views of the Wye Valley and Tintern Abbey. Great hosts, great Humpty's Fuddle beer from the Kingstone Brewery just up the road, and great food in the bar and restaurant. Room was adequate and the walk-in shower was a delight to use - what a pity other hotels do not offer this facility! Barry and Sue go out of their way to greet and welcome all of their guests and make one feel at home. We will definitely go back.

Beautiful walk from hotel through town to the abbey. Cute hotel with great pub and restaurant. picnic tables outside. Plenty of parking. Good prices. Rooms not fancy but nice. We really enjoyed our stay here. Highly recommend it.
