“Heavenly B&B Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 January 2013

When booking our trip this B&B didn't actually show up on search/compare websites, so we ended up here completely by chance. There was a problem with our previous booking, which was a huge panic as we were travelling on foot. Caroline very kindly picked us up from the nearby town and even offered us lifts in and out of Fort Augustus for the duration of our stay!

Finding this place was beautiful serendipity. Welcoming, immaculate, comfortable. We were placed in the double room (room 1) and greeted both mornings by breathtaking views of the Summer mist over the loch. The rooms had everything we needed, including a spotless en-suite shower room and little shortbread biscuits! They don't have locks on the doors, which we found a little odd, but it wasn't really a problem. Beds and pillows were fresh, soft and warm, and Caroline gives the room a quick tidy each day.

Breakfast was fantastic. We chose what we wanted and it was ready for us the next morning. We met the other current guests over breakfast, all in equally as good spirits. I think we ended up taking almost 2 hours to have breakfast, laughing away with other guests, being brought more toast, jam and coffee.

The price was £30 per person per night, which we were very happy to pay. We had a lovely peaceful weekend, popping into Fort Augustus for lunch, boat-rides, ice cream and typical tourist shopping.

The owners keep a couple of lovely friendly dogs who adored our fussing but didn't disturb us at all.

Thank you so much!

Apart from the fact that bedroom doors cannot be locked (which seems to be a common problem to many B and Bs in Scotland), it is perfect in every way, great view, lovely house, comfortable beds, spacious ensuite, delicious and copious breakfast as well as a nice welcoming and efficient owner, in fact everything is as good as can be. We want to go there again!

Came for one night when my sister Helen carried the Olympic Torch through nearby Fort Augustus. The house is beautiful and Caroline the owner came out to meet us and was very kind and friendly . We stayed in the family room which is really spacious with tv/dvd and en-suite shower room with tea/coffee making facilities. There is spectacular views from the front of the house and my daughter had great fun playing on the big rope swing out the back. The choice of breakfast is great and really sets you up for the day. We decided to extend our stay another night but to be honest i didnt want to leave as its the kind of house you would just love to have for yourself.

Good - i staied one night, but i was very pleased. Clean rooms, free wi-fi, nice people, tv, good breakfeast, quite place, great view, price 30 pounds/ pers, parcking cars.
Not very good - 3 miles from Fort Augustus, and the doors of the room cant be locked.

Having spent the last 2 weeks of August 2008 driving round Scotland, I can vouch that the country certainly throws some amazing surprises at you - mountains, hills, woods, sheep, cows, lochs and general all round beauty. All these attributes can be found at The Strathoich.

We found this amazing B&B off the A82 between Invegarry and Fort Augustus, purely by chance - but what a find!

The house has only recently been built but retains some real old fashioned charm. There are 3 rooms available; a double, a twin and a family room, so take your pick as to what suits you best (the family room upstairs has the pick of the views).

The house sits amongst some incredible scenery and it's worthwhile just sitting on the porch for a few hours watching the sun go down. The family run a farm so you can look out on the farm from the porch and if you're lucky catch the sheepdog busy at work.

The B&B is run by Caroline Smith, a lovely women with over 30 years experience in the B&B industry. This experience is put to great use in the kitchen at breakfast. Top quality ingredients are used and there's lots of it to set you up nicely for the day.

the Strathoich is kept immaculately clean by Mrs Smith. The rooms are comfortable with ensuite bathrooms (great shower), TV and tea/coffee facilities.

With the picturesque Fort Augustus a few miles down the road and Fort William not too far away, don't just drive past - you'll regret it.

I enjoyed it so much I went back for another night!
