We are at present in one of the one bedroom apartments in "Bananas Apartments" in Malmok, Aruba.
We are quite happy with the accomodations and the pool and gardens are great!
Owners live on site and are freindly and helpful.
All units are one bedroom with a pull out sofa bed in the living/kitchen area.
Apartments are clean and kitchens, albeit small, are well equipped for preparing all your meals, which can be a real plus since restaurants are quite pricey. Wifi is available in the apartments as well as cable television and a.c.
A rental car is a good idea as the apartments are a bit off the beaten track but well within walking distance of several nice beaches (some with good snorkeling and others that are the kite and windsurf beaches) There is a small supermarket 15 minutes walk with most all of your cooking needs.
This is a very good, economical option to the big chain resorts not far away on the tourist strip.
A good choice for couples or couples with a child or two.
We will be back!!!!!!!

We had a very good time at these apartments, the kids loved the pool and jacuzzi.
The owner was very friendly, and the rooms were always cleaned.
We rented a car so it was easy going to and fro with all the activities to be done on the island.
I would recommend it to everyone, very affordable.

If you called a resort and told them that you wanted a room that shared pool access with only maybe ten other rooms and you wanted it to be away from the crowds, with a kitchen in your room and lushly tropical on what is a desert island - they'd ask you if you we're prepared to spend $2500/night. Ha

Ha - just go to Bananas and save a few thousand dollars.

If you're a resort person, go elsewhere. If you like to actually be away from it all when you go away from it all, then go here. That said, it's not in the boonies - it's minutes down the road from the bustle and bright lights of the homogenous island experience you can easily get stuck with in the Carribean. Not here, it's clean, charming and quiet - and the owners are friendly and helpful.

This place and the owners really made this Aruba trip a unique memory instead of just an island getaway.

I stayed for only one night as I was between bookings at the Sunset Beach Studios (the two owners are brothers so an arrangement was made). I loved it! The apartment was clean, quiet and relatively spacious. It is only a 5 minute walk to the beach and the nearest bus stop. There is adequate parking for you car. The pool area is lovely and surrounded by a nice garden. I think this is one of the island's best kept secrets. I plan on returning to Bananas next year for a full stay. Well done!

We were really happy with this place!

We had an apartment where we could hang out, cook our own food, walk out to the back to swim in the pool or lounge on the patio and walk to the beach to enjoy some great snorkeling and swimming.

When we arrived in Aruba we were lucky because the taxi driver knew where to take us when we told him we were staying at the Bananas Resort / Apartments in Malmok (we weren't sure he would and realised later that many people on the island do not know about this place). We arrived to be greeted first by a cute dog and then his owner Peter who was very friendly and showed us to our apartment. Bananas is a big bungalow that has been converted into 6 or 7 apartments and the owners have a separate little house that they stay in. At the front of our apartment we had a kitchen and a door that led out to the front garden and street. In the back we had a bathroom and a bedroom with a Queen bed and a door leading out to the back garden and the pool. We stayed in this apartment for half the time and moved to another apartment for the rest of the stay (We knew we would be doing this already when we booked the room. Bananas may not be well known to N.Americans or even to Arubans, but they have their regular visitors, and the rooms and weeks around us were all booked). The second apartment had a door that led out to the front of the house, one to the side. It was a bachelor suite and we liked it even better. The patio on this one was large too.

We had to do this trip on a budget, so we knew there would be no fancy resort for us. At first we were apprehensive, but we really liked this place because the owners and other guests totally respected our privacy but if we wanted to socialize, we could. We felt comfortable to lay out in the back by the pool in the shade or in the sun. We came and went as we pleased. Our room was cleaned daily. We didn't have a car, so we walked to the closest beaches (Malmok and Arashi). We even walked to Palm Beach (30 min) and back a few times (we usually took the bus to get to the beaches further down). The only thing - there is no place to buy food nearby, so when you arrive in Aruba either go right to the Grocery store or eat a big meal at one of the restaurants near the big hotels. Once you make a trip to the grocery store though, you can cook just like you do at home.

One more thing - Bring Mosquito Repellant!! There are mosquitos in this area of the island (maybe because it is close to the gold course?)
