This was our only bad experience in Newfoundland. We booked this location based on their internet site and reviews. The reviews that we saw and those printed in the cabin guidebook happened to be several years old and the website is horribly outdated. We were promised an amazing restaurant on site, ( the website talks about it prominently) . The truth is that there is no restaurant, there is also no convenience store or bakery on site. It is a long drive to the nearest store for food and when we asked about restaurants nearby , they suggested St John's !

The cabin did not have cold running water in the kitchen, only hot water. The place was quite dirty, mould in the bathroom, stained furniture that was torn and had been fixed with staples. The curtains had not seen a cleaning in ages, damaged walls, screens that did not fit the windows ( we were given a roll of tape to close the holes). The towels were old, and fraying. the bathroom sink leaked. It just went on and on. My 8 year old cried the first night and did not want to use the shower. We were also surprised when we arrived, we found that the cabins back onto a trailer park. We were still awake at 1:00 in the morning, loud music and bad language, was not what we expected. ( the rules in the cabin guide state that no loud noise will be tolerated after 11:00) We felt mislead and let down. We scrambled to find another place to stay and a few days later were glad to leave.

Made a last minute decision to spend a final night in Newfoundland south of St John's and was comfortably accomodated at the Celtic Cottages, I was given one of the cottage son the bluff with one of the most stunning vistas in a province loaded with beautiful views. The cottage was immaculate and seemingly modern with anything one could want. Large fully equipped kitchen and sitting area, small bedroom and excellent bathroom. Possibly the nicest cottage I had rented in Newfoundland. The small balcony was a plus, although the evening was a bit too blustery to fully appreciate it. Not inexpensive but given the quality of accomodation and seasonality of NFL tourism, I really felt it was fairly priced.

Room Tip: The duplex cabins on the far bluff are excellent.

We travelled to NFLD with another couple in June 2011. We couldn't have picked a better home base for daily excursions around the Avalon Penninsula. Cabins were exceptionally clean (by the friendliest lady who accommodated our every need) and the grounds were immaculate. We enjoyed coffee on the deck in the morning and watched Minke whales cruise through the cove, a couple of seals that liked to sunbath and sleep on the shore and tons of seabirds. Cabins are well stocked with everything we needed to cook. Beautiful ocean view that changed with the weather. . . different every day. Leona in the office was especially accommodating and helped us pick the 'must sees' in Newfoundland which were easily travelled in a day from the cottages (with lots of stops). We enjoyed 'chats' with her and learned lots about the cove and Newfoundland. The 'LaManche' hike to the village that was wiped out by a huge wave (you walk from your cabin) is a great day walk - bring a lunch. Don't miss the Bakery in the cove before Celtic Rendezvous . . . not only the best home baked bread but also baking - matrimonial cake was to die for. After supper walks in Tors Cove plus adjoining coves always were entertaining . . . the locals were so friendly!

Room Tip: Try to book the cabins along the shore . . . not up behind the hill . . . you'll see more of wha...

We stayed in the 2 bedroom cabin which is very spacious and the view absolutely spectacular. However, we did expect the cabin to be clean which it was not. Crumbs/dust/hair remained on the table and floor from the previous guests. Towels were dingy and the bedding was very poor.

Their website advertises Mickey Broad's Cafe and for that reason we didn't arrive prepared to cook every meal. Unfortunately, Mickey Broad's Cafe no longer exists and we had to rummage for food several miles away.

That being said, we still loved being there because of the closeness to the ocean and the spectacular view.

I have just returned from my first trip to Newfoundland with 3 workmates where we were attending a work congress in St. John's. We took some extra time after and drove to the Bay Bulls area where we had booked 2 nights at Celtic Rendezvous Cottages. What a treat! We had a two bedroom cottage right on the water and view was spectacular. The weather was a little poor the first day with lots of fog so were only able to appreciate the view sporadically, but the next day saw sun and it was so gorgeous from the deck overlooking the water. The cottage was clean and comfortable with a very well equipped kitchen. Our toaster was not working, so we informed the office and we were immediately given a replacement. Upon check-in a slight mis-communication about the beds in the bedrooms was very quickly rectified by moving us to another cottage with a different configuration and with no stress at all.
Tip: highly recommend the Ocean View bakery which is very close to the cottages and as well the Captain's Table restaurant - about a 15 min drive toward St. John"s with delicious food and reasonably priced. Can get very busy in the summer though.

Our first trip to Newfoundland and we could not have found a more perfect spot. Beautiful ocean views through the livingroom window. We saw dolphins right below our deck. The cottage was spacious and the most immaculately clean place I've ever stayed in. The staff were friendly and the epitome of Newfoundlander hospitality. We were traveling with our 2 Newfoundland dogs and the manager said, "well in that case you'll want the larger cabin. " No problems and fresh linens all the time. She was so welcoming. Can't wait to return.

We stayed in one of the "efficiency units" because the cottages were fully booked and I was surprised at how much room we had (we were only two people). The units appear to have been constructed only recently, and were spotless. The view from the deck was breathtaking- we went on a whale spotting tour but didn't see any whales until we came back to Celtic Rendezvous and saw them frisking about in the bay! I would say this location is great for both couples and families- it's a lovely quiet retreat and even though children were here, we didn't hear a peep from any direction. Everything you would need is here, though I would recommend doing a grocery run in St John's as there is not much within a half hour drive aside from convenience stores. Celtic Rendezvous is beautifully situated-- near the East Coast trail, Captain's Table (a good local restaurant) and other attractions on the Irish Loop. I'd go back right away if I could!
