“Celebrating my birthday on the 13 October 2013”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

I live locally and wanted to celebrate my 65 birthday with friends and neighbours.James was helpful and welcoming with my first phone enquiry. It was their opening weekend they had lots of house guests The lunch menu was just what I wanted, affordable with good choices of local wine.at a reasonable price.
We were lucky to have two large private owned boats to get us over to this stunning dinning room very prepared and ready for 42 people, the service was excellent in spite of us all arriving at the same time James and Julie ready to welcome and met our every need . It was just a magic day. Thank you James, Julie, Chef for making that extra effort for my birthday, everyone reported the chocolate cake was delicious

Stunning location, excellent facilities, huge rooms, perfect food... there is nothing bad about Raetihi. If you're looking for a relaxing escape, this is it! You wont get a better nights sleep anywhere and can take your pick of activities during the day, especially if that's just putting your feet up. This place wont disappoint.

We stayed at Raetihi Lodge for two nights on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day during our walk on the QCT. We had arranged a water taxi to pick us up from Portage which was prompt. James, the manager was waiting at the pier when we arrived and very kindly took the bags off two weary walkers! The setting is stunning, and whilst our room was not luxurious, it was comfortable and had marvellous views. It was spacious, clean and the shower was good. The atmosphere at Raetihi was very relaxed and friendly. The service was very good, considering that the lodge was full. We had all our meals there and they were tasty. My husband and I both had much needed massages and they were amazing, in fact the best we've ever had and we have been to high end spas in many countries. Water taxi back to Portage was arranged promptly even though we asked for it rather late, as was our packed lunch for our walk. Recommend Raetihi and would definitely return to it.

This was a lovely place to go to for two nights near the end of our holiday. Hardly relaxing as we did the 15k round trip walk to Telegraph Hill and back. But we needed to do something to compensate for the absolutely first class evening meals and breakfasts we enjoyed in the restaurant.

The staff were all really friendly and helpful too.

We feel so lucky to have stayed here for 3 nights in February 2013. From start to finish it was perfect. We were taken from Picton on a water taxi across the beautiful sound, picked up in a mini bus and taken across the hill to another water taxi to Raetihi. It reminded us of the Maldives - isolated and peaceful. We were met and shown around the hotel and to our room which was everything we could hope for. Doors from our room led to a terrace with chairs and a view of the Sound ... bliss. Food was wonderful, they have a very talented chef. The seafood platter was one to remember. We spent our time relaxing and walking - so beautiful and peaceful. We were sad to leave, but the water taxis back across the sounds were again fantastic... what could be better?

Room Tip: We prefer seaview room, but garden view rooms also lovely.

We called in here by boat for a few hours and had a wonderful time. Moored at the Jetty and were welcomed by James, we then had a nice coffee and couple of beers in the lounge overlooking the sounds as the two girls went off for a massage each. They said the massages were the best they have had and both came out feeling incredibly refreshed and relaxed, thanks to Juli.

The service was excellent at all times and we were made feel very welcome. The lunches were also very good, the desert outstanding! We all had a beef burgers which were fresh and tasty with some nice seasoning. Served with some great wines and beers.

Only a three hour stay but highly recommend to visit if you're out boating and fancy an upmarket lunch and massage. We had a quick look at the accommodation which by all accounts is also lovely, the views alone are worth the cost in my view and the absolute tranquility of the Marlborough Sounds. I will return without doubt.
