“Best family holiday”
Reviewed 2 June 2013

So after looking on baby friendly bolt holes for family friendly gites in france(not too far south) we came across Emerald Coast Gites. We have 3 children under 5 (one of which is under 1) so wanted somewhere that if possible could be relaxing for parents and fun for kids! This was certainly that.

We booked for may half term so the gites were all occupied with families. As it was half term most of the children were school age but there were some under 5s too which was good.

Most people get the ferry to st malo but we bravely decided to drive from Calais and actually it was not that bad!

We arrived to sunshine and the kids looked so excited to see an enormous trampoline and a LOT of ride on toys. That was it they were off!

Our gite was a 3 bed 1 bath and was equipped with all we needed for our baby so even though we had driven did not need a steriiser etc. There was tv with dvd and sky(but the kids never really watched it!) we had a semi private garden with table and bbq.

Once all families had unloaded their cars they were parked just next door in car park then the gates to the complex were shut until the end of the holiday so really the kids could roam without escaping! We always had an eye on them at all times but for the older ones it did mean you could relax knowing they were safe.

For the kids quite frankly they would have been happy to spend the entire holiday on site! the weather was not great for our stay with a fair bit of rain but there is a soft play area under cover for them to go to in the wet...also with a small bar area for parents to watch and read a book...you can also see it from all the gites so know they are safe!

There is a swimming pool but it was a bit cold so we only went in once as had 2 days of sunny weather! Most people went in more! We were a bit timid! It is a large pool with smaller baby pool and plenty of sun longers and cabanas...really lovely.

There a also chickens for the kids to look at and plenty of green space for running around.

There is a bar for the adults and i think a games room for older children.

One night of the week Lesley and Simon the oweners host a cheese and wine night which is great to have a chat with the other parents and the baby monitors work from the gives as it is literally 5 yards away so you feel secure.

The gite is well situated not too far from Dinan and St malo and lots of lovely beaches so rain or shine there is no getting bored.

If you cant be bothered to cook there are always frozen home cooked kids meals in the freezer or lesley does a plat du jour a few nights of the stay which we had and were delicious!

Anyway as far as a holiday with 3 kids go i cant really see how it could have been any better...in fact the day after we got back i rebooked for next year! If the kids are happy we are happy!

If you want an authentic french gite experience where kids can play from dawn til dusk and you can get some rest..(well sort of!) then this is perfect.

We have just got back from our second family holiday to Emerald Coast gites. This year we went for 2 weeks and again it has been a great experience. We can genuinely say we have had a relaxing, fun holiday for all the family which is not easy with a nearly 3 year old and a 15 month old. Both children had a fantastic time - it was lovely to come back from a day out and for them to be looking forward to playing with their new little friends - on the trampoline, wendy house, soft play area, ride on toys... We both had a fantastic time and again felt safe enough to leave the children in bed with the monitors on and go to the bar (the gites are all within gated grounds and we locked the gite - to stop them escaping) - our monitor reached from L'Ecrurie. Lesley and Simon are perfect hosts - we enjoyed the cheese & wine evening and several nights in the bar! Lesley continues to cook excellent plat du jours which made us feel as if we had gone out to a restaurant. Henansal is an ideal location - very close to idyllic beaches and some lovely days out. We ventured further afield this year and went to Mont St Michel, St Malo and the aquarium, Dinan, a couple of chateaus... We are also planning a return trip and cannot think of a better holiday with 2 toddlers!

Room Tip: All the gites are lovely - we found L'Ecrurie which was on one level really relaxing as we didn...

We (myself, husband and 14 month old baby) have just returned from our first visit to Emerald Coast Villas having spent a week staying in No 1 La Vielle Grange. Thankfully our stay at La Touche lived up to the earlier reviews on trip adviser. It really was a perfect family holiday; loads for even the baby to enjoy including a fab soft play area (conveniently located next to the bar where mum and dad can grab a drink), swings, slide, loads of ride on toys and a toddler pool. At the same time mum and dad weren't overlooked; Lesley and Simon hosted a fab cheese and wine night, giving us the chance to meet some of our fellow guests, which we were able to attend once baby was in bed thanks to the proximity of the bar to the gites and the provision of baby monitors. We also enjoyed sampling Lesley's amazing plat du jour (on two occasions) and making use of the table tennis, pool table and darts. On those nights that we didn't go the bar we enjoyed a quiet night in in our gite which was set up with flat screen tv (with sky) and dvd player and so was box set ready! As for the location more generally, Henansal is only a 40 minute drive from Dinard airport which makes the trip manageable with demanding little ones. It is also only approximately 15 minutes from an amazing coastline (you really are spoilt for choice beach wise) and close to the beautiful cities of St Malo and Dinan. Even if the weather lets you down there is the Aquarium to sample. We are already planning a return trip next year with some friends.

Room Tip: La Vielle Grange is the closest give to the bar if you are concerned about being close to baby

I could repeat all of the fantastic things that all the other reviews say about Emerald Coast Gites -but after just returning from 2 weeks (our second visit - a week was not enough last year) we're all too chilled out to do much at all! Lesley and Simon are fantastic hosts and you return feeling like old friends rather than paying guests. This truly is a holiday for ALL the family...with the opportunity for the kids to have a great time, meet new friends and feel that they have some freedom...combined with the opportunity for parents to have a great time, meet new friends and have some freedom in the bar after the kids are safely in bed! Lesley and Simon are wonderful hosts and nothing is ever too much trouble and always keen to offer suggestions of where to go and what to do based on your interests and childrens ages. We have already booked for 2013 and are even considering 2014 as we really don't think anywhere could compare!

Make sure you book early! We were lucky enough to book a gite at this gorgeous location almost a year in advance. A few months before the trip we had second thoughts because it looked like the journey from our home in Cambridgeshire was going to be a bit of a nightmare, LOTS of driving plus a ferry ride, but we were so glad we stuck with it because Emerald Coast Gites really is the ideal destination for a family holiday.

Hosts Lesley and Simon have thought of everything a family could want -climbing frame, swings, huge trampoline, Wii, ride-on toys, pools, tree swings, ping pong, chickens to feed, friendly cats. All of this is in a self contained, enclosed area so you can open your front door and let your children run about with no worries about them escaping.

Our two sons, aged 3 and 5, would have happily stayed at the house for the whole week but we managed to drag them away to explore the surrounding area. Lesley had some excellent suggestions about places to go, most of which were 20 mins or less drive away. Our favourites were Chateau Hunaudaye, where our boys could dress up as knights, and Plage de Saint-Michel, a brilliant beach with biggish waves at high tide and rock pools and an island you can walk to at low tide.

All in all a perfect holiday for anyone with children, we'll definitely be going back!

This is our 2nd holiday here in two years, the only difference being we travelled with a 6 week old baby!!  This wasnt our plan when we booked last year and had we been booked anywhere else we would have cancelled, but i travelled knowing the holiday even with a newborn would be amazing and the older children would be 100% entertained and that it was. My son, whos 8, loves it, and my other daughter who is 5 wants to stay there forever. What leslie and simon have done here is truly amazing, a one off, that draws you back time and time again.  For those wanting a holiday where the kids are 100% entertained and happy, doing what kids should, playing outside, on the trampoline, ride ons, scooters, table tennis, table football, feeding the chickens, swimming, making new friends, or just running around the list is endless i have mentioned just a few, allowing mum and dad to have time to relax, be entertained, eat fabulous food and not to mention drink fantastic wine, this is most definately the place to go (proven to be possible even with a newborn!). Its so close to so many beaches, beautiful towns, restaurants, seafood, childrens activities (not that you need them as you have to drag the kids away from the gites as they just love whats there) we thought we'd found them all last year, but discovered even more, and no doubt will discover even more next year, when we return for 3 weeks, ideally we would stay for the whole summer!! Seriously, cannot recommend emerald coast gites enough!!

Just come back from our 4th year here - so, safe to say we like it and have had a fantastic time again this August. Can't go next year which is a real shame. Our children love it and if they are happy then so are we! Ages 5, 7 & 8 this year. Great grounds and facilities for the kids who stay up till it gets dark then pass out exhausted and then a few games of pool and mixing with the other guests in the bar (baby listener works from the gites). Excellent BBQ evening and wine and cheese night. Lesley does really good plat de jour six nights a week - we have it every evening (fish man visits on Fridays - moules frites highly recommended. Beaches about fifteen mins away and vast, tree climbing, lake fishing - loads to do. Nighttime swim is a favourite for kids too. Love it.
