We visited on a lovely, sunny day with French families doing what all people do at the beach: swim, sunbathe, play frisbee. Given the death and destruction on this sacred beach, the site was a bit unsettling at first. I too went for a swim, and walking out of the water toward the bluffs was like crossing the Pickett's Charge field at Gettysburg.
